Just curious here, it seems to me that if Blizzard offered a $24.99 'Starter Deck' deal which gave players say, 5 boosters, an exclusive golden legendary, maybe a WoW pet or Mount and instant access to the beta, they would have been raking in the dough.
I have to wonder if it was even discussed at all within Blizzard. So many people right now are burning to get into the beta and the games popularity is exploding. It seems odd to me that Blizzard wouldn't want to take advantage of the hype.
Probably because it would confuse new players. If they had an exclusive beta to people who bought in or opted in people might get the idea that its a p2p game and lose interest.
They are just probably testing the game out. Servers and stuff like that. I doubt they'd be able to handle so many people, plus the game is F2P, so I doubt they'd do something like this.
They are going to wipe everyone's beta accounts after they finalize what the costs and rewards will be. Games that charge for early access generally cannot do that because people who pay for early access expect to be able to keep the stuff they earn during early access.

Well Ubisoft (an AAA company) is offering early access to their new game "The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot". Like Hearthstone the game will be f2p when it comes out, and so far being in the beta I don't see any negative repercussions from buying into early access.
I can see your point, but the hype is so high right now that wouldn't it make sense to sell early access? I mean many people would pay for early access right? Maybe my want for a beta key is just blinding my thoughts:p
Blizzard is a company that doesn't really need to do this, this promotes more people to boost early profits so that, let's say an indie company needed some early money to help early production.
As people have said, one of the big issues is that they're going to wipe everything. Second thing is that not everything is finalized, gold per win is probably still being looked at, animations are missing, some bugs are still in there, probably game balance will be continued to look at throughout the beta. I feel like they might also change the prices of the booster packs, just seems like Arena is usually more efficient than buying packs nearly 100% of the time.

If they explicitly say that then it's no problem. The player just has it decide whether it's worth it or not.
Also someone was saying it's not classy for top companies to sell access to their Betas but they already sold access to MoP with the year sub thing.
Its utter BS i already posted about this on official forums suggesting money could go to charity if they don't want it , all i got were shots saying well they don't need an influx of people, but really i thought beta was to test servers.
How is wiping everything even an issue? They have already said that any packs you buy in Beta will be given back to you once the game goes live, so what exactly are you losing? If they did a buy in deal that came with packs of cards, you would just get them back once the game went live.
The simple fact is they have chosen not to do it because it is not what Blizzard does. Simple as that.

The point is that in most games that offer early access, people want to be able to use their time playing during early access to earn rewards through gameplay. I was strictly talking about stuff you earn in-game that will get wiped out, not stuff you buy with real money.
The point about "it is not what Blizzard does" I actually agree with, though. Blizzard has very high standards for things that they charge money for, and I think they would consider it a slight to their reputation as a developer if they were to sell an untested, buggy product.
Lots of people that pay for early access acts like if they bought an actual game. They would be pissed to all hells when they realized a beta is... beta. Just look at the amount of entitlement from people "investing" by backing a Kickstarter project. They want it and they want it NOIW, because THEIR money is on the line.
wait.... people are so concerned about the game becoming pay to play yet on the same page of the same forum are largely FOR paying to have early access? i'm confused.

Having a buy-in to beta also cuts down on a lot of the hype.

Nah for an MMO it should work like it worked with the Annual Pass that gave people access to MoP. But for Hearthstone that would be terrible.

I do hope they do some sort of digital collector's edition though.

i'd pay $29.99 for access to this beta easy no second thoughts
They also wouldn't be "beta testing" it. They would be pretty much releasing the game.
People need to grasp the basic concept behind beta test, because lately I've seen the most absurd views about it.
