Hi does anyone know how the gold system works for a f2p player? I plan on playing the game to get better at it but I don't really have the cash to be buying new decks and other stuff with. Will I be able to slowly grind for new decks by just playing the game or do I have to use money just to get really good cards?
You CAN get gold in f2p. You get a certain amount of cards by doing the tutorial and basic games (I'm not in the beta so I don't know exactly how much), and then you get anywhere from 1-3 dailies you can do for ~40g each, and then you get 5 gold for every 5 games you win. Packs are bought for 100g and an Arena entry is 150g.
Keep in mind, though, that the game is still in beta and prices and rewards are likely to change over the course of the testing.
Thanks, I really like that you can earn cards on your own like that. It makes up for the game not having a trade system and being able to craft new cards if you have dupes.
You can play the whole game without spending a dime but at the current rate things are very slow. You can earn a small amount of gold from dailys but after that the gold rate slows down significantly (All the 1 gold per win complaints).

this pretty much sums it up, but you dont have to spend a $ if you dont want to!
i think when the game was first announced, blizzard did mentioned that you dont have to spend any real money, and still be competitive and have access to everything in the game
if you are not planning to use real money and use gold only, gold can definitely allow you to buy packs and enter arena, and you can get gold from completing daily quests and achievements
Remember that not only can you get packs/cards from gold but also from disenchanting your unwanted or unneeded cards- you only ever need 2 of any card and one for legendaries- any extra beyond that is just disenchant fodder
B. if not blizzard needs to make money and even though they could increase it a little f2p games are usually strenuous to grind if played completely free
C. the costs to buy packs isn't that bad if you consider other card games.

you can never pay a penny and obtain every card (eventually) the 1gold per win is likely (and hopefully) a beta number though.

The irony of the f2p system they have in place right now is that my highest gold gains seem to be from arena.

The gold gain is definitely slow, but
A. it is beta the values might change
