I'm confused as to why people think the artwork for her hero portrait is bad, when it has a similar art style to already existing cards. Then again people say her card back looks amazing, which I disagree with (green and gold, yuck) so there's subjectivity in art for you.

I'm not gonna argue that it's not subjective but I want to explain my opinion why I don't like it.
First of all it's unique in the body/character to background ratio in combination with the details of the background.
Beside Anduin every character fills it portrait to 95%. The background is kept simplistic thous the character is very present and dominants the picture. Honestly, the first thing I noticed with Alleria was the cloak and the bow, not the character itself. It feels like the background is to noisy, leafs, cloak, some kind of waterfall or something. That keeps the eyes busy and the focus, what is closest to the viewer is not the character but the bow and arrow. That's generally not what you are looking for in a portrait which purpose it is to portray a character.
Second odd thing is her position and posture in the picture. If you would draw a line in the vertical center of each hero you would always go through the core of the body, with Alleria we have a noticeable shift to the side which creates the open space for the background. Imagine the cloak wouldn't be there, you would have a big open space on the left side without any character in it.
The odd thing about her posture is that we see her leg. Yeah, might sound strange but beside Jaraxxus we are used to torso only which makes sense in a small picture. It again makes her more distant. It doesn't help that she is leaned in that much that most of her body is in shadow but that's something that Rexxar also has but Rexxar has a very dark theme to him with a dark gray background and brown and black clothing.
That are my main problems without addressing the Warcraft style but in that direction:
I don't like the bow and for me it really doesn't help that it seems like the arrow points in the wrong direction in the sense that it's not the line that the arrow would fly if released. Also she holds the arrow between her middle finger and pointer and holds the bow side wise but that's not tooo strange even though it's terrible archery, it's common in fantasy and movies. in addition to that her shoulder pat looks stupid but that's a warcraft problem. The only thing I would objectively have to say is that it might be too dominant beside her head but glowing eyes helps for that.
Attachment just for comparison. I think Jaina is one of the best, sure, her style of cloth looks like something a 14 year old boy made up to jack off to but color scheme and position in the picture just work great. Anduin as an example how to to background in a simple manner but I have to say his face looks stupid.
But I'm not gonna argue that somebody else shouldn't like Alleria, just trying to explain myself
Yeah people were asking for new heroes for so long! We just never thought they would be mere skins but it was a really clever $olution by Blizz... (and fresh air after all)
How was anyone not expecting this? They've been talking about alternate hero skins pretty much since launch.

I know nothing about WOW or it's lore, so it's just purely cosmetic change in my eyes. Might be fun ... I think if she had always been the Hunter, and they were now introducing Rexxar, people would be just as excited ... or not ... though
Can someone confirm that she is not actually a new hero, but an alternative picture for Rexxar that you have to pay 10$ for? I'm a bit confused. I'm seeing terms ' new hero' and ' new skin' being used in this thread?...
Yes, she's an alternative picture for Rexxar that costs $10. Most likely, there won't be any truly new heroes (new hero power/class) until 2016 at the earliest.
Also, new hero = new hero power/cards and new skin = purely cosmetic
Thanks, I thought she might be a new 'class' with a new hero power.
If its the same class and hero power as Rexxar then I don't see why you'd want to pay money for it. It's like paying money for getting golden versions of cards you already have. At the end of the day, it's not going to affect your performance in the game.
Each to their own I suppose but I'd rather buy packs or arena I think.
They could really have made skins a feature to be unlocked (500+ class wins), or a rare prize in Arena.
Eh, it's just Blizzard monetizing the game. I'd actually be upset if it were a new class, because Blizzard would be locking that behind a paywall. Cosmetic items don't really matter though, so I'm cool with it being money only. I might even buy the shaman skin, assuming it has new totems.
It's a pity they won't be adapting class cards like Animal Companion but that would be a LOT of work and kind of confusing for new players.
The Blizzard of old would have done this because it's the correct thing to do. I don't think it's a lot of work, just a lot of time. To be fair, anytime a new skin came out they would have to make more card alternates, but it's certainly doable.
As for Alleria, I think it's awesome. I'm unfamiliar with her lore, but not her name. I'm looking forward to some fresh faces on ladder!
What would they even change it to? Generic beasts? It's a waste of time that adds next to nothing to the game, doesn't fit with the aesthetic of heroes playing a card game in a tavern, complicates the card collection with seemingly random variations from the norm, etc.
One interesting thing they could have done was to make Animal Companion a Rexxar-exclusive card and given Alleria her own "hero card", but again that's an additional level of complication and doesn't sit with the $10 cash-only price point.
Yeah, I get what you're saying about the complexity, but I don't think it would be as bad as all that. Switch hero, the cards change in your collection manager. Right clicking could show the variants with the heroes name under it. It's probably worse for Magni (a dwarf throwing down class specifc orc/weapons) than hunter.
Alleria's art looks well done to me, but it also does look very generic elf too, if that makes sense. Also, what's up with the promo video not showing what her new hero power animation looks like? They showed it for Magni.

Very good post. I wasn't able to nail why exactly the art looks off to me, this is definitely it. Also it looks like the directon of the arrow and her line of sight don't match, which... really bothers me for some reason.
However, Blizzard is getting a 1+ from me for NOT dressing her like a slut in order to generate more $. Good job.
I think it's unlikely that paladin and shaman will have new minions to summon. There will be a new animation on activating the hero power itself I think.
That just sounds really half-assed. Especially for paladin, unless they go with another human pally, which would make it a waste of money for a totally different reason.

That's pretty much how I feel about the class cards not at least getting variations. Maybe they will for those specific hero powers though. Given what they've said (though very general), I don't think it's going to happen.
Also, I hope they update the VO work for when Animal Companion is played, else that's just a huge oversight.
Edit: Actually, I would find it very funny if the VO for Animal Companion was "To me, Rexxar's companion!"
Well, Alleria is much better than Vereesa. So I find it nice. And, who knows, may lead to more variety of cards in the future, just think how most of Garrosh minions are in the Horde (Cruel Taskmaster, Warsong Commander, Frothing Berserker, Kor'kron Elite, Iron Juggernaut, Grommash Hellscream...)

I suddenly realized that they're almost guaranteed to not change the pally hero power tokens. Because, if they were, Quartermaster would be less specific. Guess that's $10 I'm saving.

Good catch. If they're not changing pally, then they probably won't change Shaman either.
You could change the token's appearance and still call it Silver Hand Recruit...Blizzard just has to choose another Paladin that works with the Silver Hand.

Yes, but all of the well-known Silver Hand Knights are male humans. You wouldn't be buying a skin, you'd be buying a haircut.
I think they would have to change the Shaman totems, since in WoW, the totem graphics are specific to race. And the current set of totem graphics are linked to Orcs. It will definitely be interesting to see what they do.

I dont like her because her body is fully covered with clothes therefore she must be a very weak character. I dont like weaklings.
She's pretty cool, but I feel like there's something missing. Her voice over isn't the best. But I think I'll prefer her over Rexxar.
