In the next game update we will be getting new heroes (cosmetic only) and a brand new gamemode. Details on everything we know so far can be found below!
Misc Patch Info
You will be able to assign a card back to each of your decks in the collection manager. This is done in the collection manager.
You can set your favourite hero globally to choose which hero goes into battle with you during matches in the collection manager.
You can also set specific heroes for individual decks.
No new cards will be released with the Tavern Brawls patch. (Source)
No balance changes are currently planned for the patch. (Source)
New heroes are coming to Hearthstone, one for each class. Not all nine of the new heroes will be immediately available, but we have information on three of the Heroes so far.
Heroes can be bought for $9.99 USD per hero ($12.99 AUD, 8.99€ EUR, 6.99£ GBP). (Source)
Heroes are purely cosmetic. They use the same class cards that are in the current game and use the same hero power.
The hero package includes the new Hero, a special hero-exclusive Card Back, and unique hero-specific Emotes.
You'll be able to set a favourite hero for each class. The favourite hero will be used in play mode and arena. (Source)
Hero Details
The portraits come animated by default, unlike the base heroes.
When they enter the game, it plays a special animation.
Heroes come equipped with unique emotes.
The new emotes will use the same categories as the old ones. (Greetings, Thanks..) (Source)
The area surrounding the hero, the tray, is themed to match the hero. (Source)
Each Hero has a unique Hero Power animation. (Source)
The Hero Power border will become golden once you have achieved 500 wins with the class of that Hero. Otherwise, it is wooden. (Source)
Example: If you've obtained 500 wins with Garrosh, that's 500 Warrior wins which would give you golden hero power Magni.
Further Clarifications
The new heroes do not come with new deck slots. (Source)
No new gameboards are included with the new heroes. (Source)

There are no current plans for releasing a bundled discount. (Source)
There are no current plans to allow for gifting of portraits, or other content. (Source)
Hunter - Alleria Windrunner
"Many believe magic has maintained order in Quel'Thalas. My bow would say otherwise. One shot, one kill. This is how I preserve our realm. I am Alleria Windrunner. If you stand against me, you're just another target. And I never miss my mark."
Alleria Windrunner is the new Hunter hero. She is a High Elf Ranger who was the head scout of the Alliance Expedition to Draenor. Her whereabouts are currently unknown. (Wowpedia)

New Gamemode - Tavern Brawl
Admission to Tavern Brawl is free.
It is a weekly event which has a custom deck building rule for that mode that everyone must adhere to.
One week you may need to build your own deck, or you may be given a premade deck.
The gamemode unlocks after you have leveled up any hero to level 20.
There will be a couple of days delay after a brawl ends before a new one begins.
How it Works
Each brawl has a new deckbuilding ruleset / theme.
You will either build a deck or be given a preset deck depending on the brawl.
If you are building a deck for that brawl, you must do so using your own card collection. (Source)
You can fight as many times as you want in that week's Tavern Brawl with your deck.
Total wins for that brawl will be shown on the brawl screen. (Source)
You can only have one deck for each brawl, but your deck can be edited. Your brawl deck has its own deck slot on the brawl UI, like arena.
Rewards
Winning your first brawl each week during the launch event will reward you with a Classic Card Pack. (Source / Source)
There is no additional information at this time on rewards past the launch event.
If, as they have stated, anything is possible in the Brawl mode, and if we have to build our Brawl decks using our own collections, are the extra cards going to be useable, therefore, "not really extra"? Are they, in a particular week, going to allow a 30 leper gnome deck if you have that number of leper gnomes? Should we stop disenchanting our cards if want to play Brawl a little bit more seriously?

No..
If they want us to play with 30 leper gnomes, or 30 unstable portal or 30 webspinner they will just give you the deck to play like that (you won't keep the cards outside that brawl after it ends)

What if they simply increase the amount of unique cards you can put in the deck to 3?

I can't see that happening ever, but.. if you want to assume that it's a possibility, start keeping extra copies..
mtg has a "4 of each" rule for 20 years now and won't change because it would change a fundamental rule of the game, wouldn't make any sense, like in hs wouldn't too.

30x of the same card, 0 mana +100 armor, and other crazy cards we've seen are all okay but letting more than 2 cards of the same kind is a stretch? I'm not saying they would implement it in the actual play mode, but they have stated that anything is to be expected in brawl.

When someone asked if card/deck limitations like these were something that could change in brawls, Blizzard tweeted that everything was on the table, and possibilities are endless. So, I think these limitations could all be changed as part of a brawl.

Was hoping for a Warlock hero...
Really like the Tavern Braw concept!!
They said Mid-June, so I'm thinking maybe next tuesday (16th)?
It's E3 opening day too, not sure if it relates tho
The EU servers had some major issues last night which I suspect was due to the uploading of the new content.
Some time soon, then...
I wonder if Medivh will say something cool when he plays his Echo?
Mid-june... so june 29th.
Mmmm that Hunter & Cardback... Very tantalizing.
Jaraxxus: "I WILL FEAST ON YOUR SOUL, THIS WINTERVEIL!!"
Medivh: "Happy feasting, Champion!"
"mid-june" so.... soon™

How long will does a launch event last if I may ask? Or does it depend on the event?
Thanks. Just wanted to be clear on that point :3

Installing the patch now. Exited to test out the brawl-mode.
No Brawl mode yet, but the card back manager is nice and simple. And the new hero portraits are available in the Shop.
