It'll definitely be some new way to play the game since all the primary buttons on the front of the box are different ways to play hearthstone. The people who are saying that it's a cosmetics tab are probably still salty about the new hero portraits though it's almost unfathomable why someone would be annoyed about an optional piece of purely cosmetic content being made available to people who want that sort of thing. Especially when the resources that go into that have little to do with the people making new cards, mechanics and game modes.
My guess is probably 2v2 if it is a major announcement, though I wouldn't reject a new way to play sealed/limited style formats either as arena gets sort of worn out after a while. I doubt they would make a raid style mode after just releasing a new PvE dungeon. Another sort of out there idea might be a weekly "challengestone" ish mode where there could be some specific deckbuilding rule for that queue and it could get the deckbuilders out there an opportunity to work under interesting constraints.
If it is 2v2 I'd be interested to see how that works. Do heroes share a health pool or can you knock out one hero and force the other to 1v2? Do taunt minions from both heroes protect each others' stuff? Do AoE spells like flamestrike hit one opponent's board or both opponents' board? Will cards like sinister strike and mind blast let you target a hero? How will turns work? Assuming there are teams A and B each with players 1 and 2 will turn order be 1A, 1B, 2B, 2A and who gets coins if anyone? There are so many specific mechanics to work out that it'd be sort of a weird adjustment period, though I imagine it would be a lot of fun the novelty might wear off when like, face hunter mech mage pairings make everyone's lives miserable. The nice Thing about a 2v2 mode is it would open up things like 4 player free for all and other such possibilities.
If it was 2v2 I'd be excited to try priest + paladin with Aldor Peacekeeper + Cabal Shadow Priest shenanigans taking Ragnaros or Sylvanas.
I'd hate a 2v2 mode. Now you have triple the downtime between turns. I'd only try it if they made it resemble a 1V1. Both players share 30 HP, draw either 3 cards (split 1/2) or 4 cards (2/2) for the second players.
Players share mana and the 7 card board limit and alternate card draws. Give each player only 45 secs max before it passes to their partner.
Example. A and B are on team 1, going first, and C and D are on team 2, going second.
* A draws 2 cards, B draws 1. A gets 45 seconds, but can't spend the 1 mana, passes to B. B plays a 1 mana card and passes.
* C draws 2 cards, B draws 2, one randomly gets the coin, C plays a card for 1, passes priority to D who uses a coin to play a 1 drop
*B now gets priority on team 1, doesn't draw a card
Tournament mode would be amazing. I'm not too hyped for 2v2 and I think it's too soon for it personally. A collection manager button would be pretty underwhelming though.

There are currently no plans for a co-op mode.
Will new hero portraits be usable in arena? How does this selection process work? In the settings or when you click 'play ranked' It'll be a part of the collection manager. - Zeriyah
Probably a collection manager tab like where you see your card backs and heroes..
Thanks for that. It was an update after I'd posted my queries about 2v2. Tournaments would be cool though.
This new button is totally a statistics button! We'll be able to view a wide variety of different statistics about the games we've played on our accounts!
Speculation about tournament mode is strong here, but to be different:
Reverse arena mode Draft the worst possible deck Your opponents get to play deck you made You don't know what cards are in deck you get from your opponents either Maximum RNG wisp fest
I'd expect something very similar to arena in format: Pay 150 gold and choose your deck, play to 12 wins or 3 losses, with rewards based on how far you get.

I'd love that format, would be heaps of fun. :)

what we need is a sit'n'go style game mode, where we can use gold to get in and 4 -6 -8 players mode, like a small tourney.

They could just move the arena button to the 4th spot and put tournaments in the third to make room.
Just gonna be another store button :D
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice - Sneak Review! http://www.thepoxbox.com/challenges.php?id=batmanvsuperman
Maybe "Player profile", "Achievements", something statistical like that?
I hope they add an achievements button. Just not for this particular one though.
I'm hoping for some kind of tournament thing people are talking about but player profiles sounds also sounds cool to me.

That's what I am thinking.. I hope we're right. :) An enhanced shop / collection manager would feel like a swift kick to the groin.
Considering they already had the tournament mode UI designed since 2013, I'm going to guess it's that.

The new button could be "Replays" A new section that has all of your game vods databased and easily searchable.
F2p = Free To Psychosis
It's a hot-link button to log you out of HS and into HOTS. /duckstoavoidflyingobjects
They should add some replay function for recently played games. I don't record and I regret sometimes for wasting real Trolden stuff. :D
Speculation about tournament mode is strong here, but to be different:
Reverse arena mode
Draft the worst possible deck
Your opponents get to play deck you made
You don't know what cards are in deck you get from your opponents either
Maximum RNG wisp fest
Piloted Shredder, Knife Juggler, Mad Scientist, Dr. Boom
Need to be removed from this game
Tournament mode is obviously the winner here.

Conquest Mode.
Choose 3 decks and queue! First to 3 wins.
Easier to do considering the logistics and resources required to set up tournament mode
I love scrubs
PvP for gold.everyone pay like 50g for match and winner gets 100g :)
I'd love that format, would be heaps of fun. :)
