That would be a huge turn off if new heros are only for cosmetrics....I feel the game really needs something new now....and new hero powers would be a big welcome for me....tired of the same hero powers...especially the Hunter one =P
Warrior: Mauradin or Magni Bronzebeard - Dwarf theme hint seems pretty strong.
Hunter: Shandris Feathermoon - since hunters/Huntresses have a closeness to the wild rather than just good archers like the Windrunner sisters.
Shaman: Farseer Nobundo - Probally for Alliance Representation
Druid: Hamuul Runetotem - Seems like the only choice to me.
Mage: Khadgar or Kael'thas Sunstrider - if your going for "Horde" (Blood elf) representation.
Priest: Tyrande Wisperwind - Surely no other choice here since she is High Priestess of Elune after all .
Rogue : Garona Halforcen - seems the most obvious to me, I could see Maiev Shadowsong
Warlock: Wilfred Fizzelbang - just for the alternative summon sound for Jaraxxus, "Trifling Gnome your arrogance will be your undoing!" Or Maybe Medivh or Cho'gall

I would bet 50 bugs that it's only cosmetics. Balancing 9 new hero powers at once is a fucking nightmare.
So, maybe horde heroes for mage, priest, paladin and druid, and alliance heroes for warlock, warrior, rogue, shaman and hunter.
Sounds about right, though Valeera's not horde, she's neutral, so it would have to be another neutral character. (People speculate Garona, and I for one agree)

Technically she is neutral but she is besties with the King of Stormwind after all. She is as close to alliance as you can get without actually being Alliance. The weird thing is, this means whomever is a "new" Hero won't have a card then right?
Since it says a "new patron" doesn't that mean they'll add alternative hero skins so you could finally get a 2vs2 mode (so if you fight the inkeeper warrior deck with a friend you won't be facing two Garrosh-es). If that's the case the new skin could be the skin the second player gets in a match if he's the same class as you are. Would make sense but it would be a shame if you can't actively chose to play with the new skin.
Not really enough possible balanced hero powers if they have to be 2 mana. Though "Gain 2 attack this turn" could be an interesting one for warrior. Alternatively, they could just copy hero powers from other classes. Let Warrior have access to the Druid hero power.
Hoping that alternative portraits are unlocked through game play rather than gold. Maybe reach 100 ranked wins and get an alt portrait?
Has anyone tried to crack the code? I've started looking at it, but I can barely tell the letters apart
I have just started looking into it. It's hard to say if it's made to emulate hand writing or if some are actually different symbols. I start with trying to figure out what the vocals are since they should appear considerably more often. Going to grape a bite and then start trying to figure out if I can make out some words.
If it's not just english with different letters I wont get anything though. I have no clue from blizzard verse languages.
It's getting pretty late for me so I'm not sure if I keep on going for long but I leave my work in progress here is somebody wants to pick up the work.
The big problem is the irregularities in the letters yet it's a pattern so I have no clue if it's supposed to be different to appear like hand written or actual different letters. The different versions of "o" are a big problem, especially because they are inconsistent when followed by an "n" yet even the "n" look apart.
if minor differences do not matter following are vocals: "n", "o" "I" and the cursive i. That's based on number of appearance but if they are actually different letters from each other, that's worthless.
The color markings on the image are to show similarities and repeating words, syllables and what not. The "TU" could be the key since if found you could open up another word and snowball from there.
The "th/the/they" is just an educated guess, it was the first that came to my mind. The rest should be fairly self explaining.
If they want variety, Akama would be a good choice.
He is certainly known enough to take a hero spot.
Except Akama isn't a Shaman...like, at all. The Akama in that pick is more like a Rogue, while the one we meet in alternate draenor is a Paladin. So I supposed a case could be made to make Akama the second Rogue hero, but that still leaves the shaman hero up in the air.
I still think Falstad Wildhammer is the best choice for Shaman after Thrall, certainly a better choice than Nobundo, who nobody would know unless they played Cata.
The downside to making 9 new hero portrait options (which I presume is what is going to happen) is that it makes it unlikely that those heroes will appear as playable cards.

Not entirely true. Look at Ragnaros or Baron Geddon. One is a deathrattle summon of a card, and a legendary card. The other was a boss (portrait) for BRM and is a legendary card.

Akama not a Shaman? Like, at all?
No offense, but did you even play the RTS? Chain Lightning? Feral Spirits? Freaking Reincarnation? Ringing a bell? I mean jesus, even in wow this guy was all about consulting his ancestors for every little shit he did.
Yes, Akama can also be considered a Rogue, just like Tyrande can be considered a Huntress and a Priestess. Or Kael'thas a Mage in the RTS and a Warlock in World of Warcraft. The notable heroes are more often than not a combination of various classes. Even Thrall can be considered a Warrior at one point in his lore.
Edit: From the book Unbroken: "During Nobundo's training as a shaman, he unknowningly inspired Akama to become a shaman, but the last time he saw Nobundo, Nobundo gave him something even more important: hope for the future."

Most likely this is just a new skin for the warrior class.

I would certainly hope not because I loathe playing Heathstone: the Slot Machine
Oh my... The idea of new heroes to open up team teamplay makes me very excited.
I build apps for a living.

Why do you guys assume the figure in the new image is a dwarf? It's CLEARLY Old Murk-Eye.
I just haxxed that from Blizzard's servers. True story
Shaku, the Collector gave me the Plague

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Most_common_words_in_English should be helpful. At least as a non english native it's kinda tricky.
EDIT: some likely words for "minotu": throat, threat, minion, poision, domain, person, reason.
That's the class icon both for WOW and HS not the Hero Power.
