Now that we have had a whole new expansion released since gvg I thought it would be interesting to see how opinions have evolved on the class legendaries we got from that expansion.
Which class legend is your favourite?
Which do you think is the strongest competitively?
What innovative/fun decks do you like to use them in?
What competitive decks are made all the stronger with the inclusion of one of these cards?
Are there any that you were disappointed by?
(I own Neptulon, Vol'jin, Malorne, Mal'ganis and Iron Juggernaut so I will only share my personal opinions on these cards)
Personally, my favourite new class legendary for fun reasons is Malorne. He has an interesting effect and even if he is not the greatest card in the game he has won me games before in a really fun control druid I once made which used Malorne as a sort of never-ending threat. It was not insanely viable but it was one of the most fun decks I played in the aftermath of gvg.
I think the strongest new class legend competitively speaking is Neptulon. Drawing 4 cards that have synergy with each other is amazing in spite of the steep mana cost. In fact, I think it is one of the few overload cards that works. 7 mana turn 1 into 3 mana turn 2 is better in my opinion than 10 mana in one turn, and it is also less damaging to a shaman's tempo than an early lightning storm or crackle where the overload is often too punishing. I love getting huge Old Murkeye combinations following a Neptulon play, its so fun.
Zoo seems to be stronger because of Mal'Ganis, the midrange version at least. I tend to think of him as a worse Cenarius though. His buff effect is good, especially if you manage to keep your imps around. Cenarius is good on his own, but Mal'ganis is only good because Imp-losion and Voidcaller exist. I don't really get the hype around him tbh.
Please share your thoughts on the class legends of gvg. Whether you have a sweet spot for Flame Leviathan or love Mal'ganis for midrange demonzoo shenanigans, let us know what you think.
(Also, I didn't realise bbcode didn't work in the polls, is there a way to edit that out?)
insanely strong, allows you to tap for free, it is a 9/7 taunt that gives u free tap, can be out as early as turn 3 (coin voidcaller, opponent kills it) and buffs your other demons, making them survive equality consec or pyro equality.
Malganis is not 'hyped" it is just super strong, way way stronger over than Neptulon
I would say that all around and being used in most decks are Malganis and then followed closely by Vol'jin. I chose Vol'jin as my favorite simply because I play Priest. I think that the other classes got the shaft though cause their heroes are no where near as good or viable (though I am sure someone can find a place).
Malganis seems like the obvious choice to me. He has a major impact on the board and as stated earlier, can be brought out really early with voidcaller.
Brief rundown of each one from my own experience as well as some observation:
Malorne - Ok card in very slow deck vs. a very slow deck but I can't imagine the meta will ever be slow enough where he will be chosen over other massively useful druid cards.
Gahz'rilla - Fun, but there isn't enough other pieces available to make a viable deck that utilizes him. Especially since Hunters best deck archetypes are all way too fast to include him.
Flame Leviathan - Hilarious idea but a terrible card that can cost you games just as easily as win them.
Bolvar - For gods sake, if you couldnt silence him he might actually be ok. Until then or some new pally cards make him worth it, there are way better choices, especially after BRM.
Voljin - Useful card, it just happens to not make the cut most of the time. Kind of a meta call, more useful in a slower meta, can still get value against aggro though. I really thought he was going to be more widely used but I rarely see him.
Gallywix - Honestly I never gave him much thought and the only time I saw him played the game was lost anyways.
Neptulon - Good card, draw 4, 7/7 body, and 4 cards can have some strong synergy. Definately worthwhile in more late gamey shaman decks. Just doesnt seem as impactful as Malganis, who demands an answer immediately or things will go downhill fast.
Malgani - Strong, high priority card. The game literally cant end til the opponent answers him. Left unchecked he will swing a game easily with free taps and increased demon stats. Not a perfect card but very strong and actually made demon decks a thing. Not by himself but he is a strong part of it.
Juggernaut - Not a practical card in any warrior deck right now but super fun.
Question: How does the burrowing mine interact with Chromaggus?

I never considered that but it would be so funny if he did dupe the mine. I will have to test that with a friend one day.
He actually duplicates the mine but puts the second one in your hand (where it can't be played). Then at the start of the next turn the mine blows up. Not quite intended but at least it doesn't crash the game.
Good to know thanks for informing us all. Surprised you can't play it. I noticed that it is actually a warrior spell but at least its not collectible so you can't also get it from Nefarian!
It seems the behavior is bugged. According to tweets it's supposed to be playable from your hand. It should do anything but could be used to trigger combo cards for rogues or damage from a flamewalker etc. It also shouldn't blow up on your next turn.
I think Mal'Ganis is the most adequate of the bunch to the meta. Its an insane addition to zoo and demonlock.
The best card however, I believe to be Vol'Jin although rarely played. I play it in all my control priest decks - its a 6 attack minion which can have an insane body and works as somewhat of the removal if you already have a board or Holy nova. It's completely insane. But the meta is too quick for a guy like him :(
Someday, warchief, you shall lord over HS. This I vow
