So I recently lost a match (kinda salty lol) due to something that I thought would work differently but did not. As with our legal system, I'm citing precedence:
Kezan Mystic has a battlecry that steals a random enemy secret. In the case of the enemy secret being Mirror Entity; we know that Kezan Mystic's battlecry applies *before* the secret triggers. Therefore we know that Battlecries should take place *before* the card's presence is detected on the board.
So now here's the scenario: Enemy had Sylvanas Windrunner on their side. I had nothing on my side. I played Rend Blackhand, knowing that his battlecry would destroy her. Since the battlecry effect takes place before the minion exists, I figured the OOO would be Destroy--->Deathrattle resolves, steals nothing--->Rend Blackhand enters play.
However, what occurred was Destroy--->Rend Blackhand enters play-->Deathrattle resolves-->Steals Rend.
This seems like an improper order of resolution considering that Kezan Mystic does not trigger a mirror entity. Now we know that the battlecry does work as advertise, the main point of contention is why is the deathrattle for sylvanas resolving AFTER Rend enters play, and not before? Considering the battlecry takes place "before" Rend enters play.
I'm thoroughly convinced that this is an unintended side effect.
think of it like this: the battlecry and summon are the same event, with the battlecry resolving first.
Sylvanas played > (Rend Battlecry + Rend Summon) > Sylvanas DR triggers
it's similar to the way Mirror Entity interacts with cards like Frostwolf Warlord and Voidterror. their BC resolves first, and then the secret triggers, stealing the minion WITH their battlecry effects. Hope that helps.
Basically there are a lot more steps in there you seem to think. The minion is on the board at step 2. Battle cries are resolved at step 7 and Secrets are resolved at step 8. That is why you can steal a Mirror Entity without triggering it but Slyvanas was able steal your Rend because he's been on the board since step 2.
The card is played, mana expended, and the minion summoning stage begins
The minion itself appears physically on the board, and assumes the position selected for it.
For the first time during the summoning process, all minion stats will be re-calculated. This will take into account auras operating upon the summoned minion, and auras generated by the summoned minion.[50]
