I dont think it is easy for anyone. last month, I played combo druid, handlock, and control paladin everyday to clear my daily task and ends with rank 4 with 1 or 2 stars i cant remember. If u wanna hit legendary rank, it needs some efforts to play sufficient games. I dont know other guys. for me, it is not easy to play 5 games continuously. it will make me fill tired and nervous.
Usually only people in stage 4 (maybe 3) are of the right mindset and skill to climb to high ranks. It just takes (a lot of) time, practice, patience, and memorization and of course critical thinking skills. Always be aware of what your opponent probably has in his hand.
All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible. - T. E. Lawrence
Make your own decks, even when they seem bad. By doing this, you will know every card in your list and will know what can you expect from the cards. I feel like this might help :P. This also will improove your arena skills.
By just copying you don't enteirly know the deck gameplan, you just don't feel it.
This season i hit legend with Taunt Priest, I just put in eggs, watchers, alittle bit of silences and some taunt givers. At the start I was really struggling and loosing quite too often, but after every game I was changing my deck alittle. Removing cards that doesn't work and adding cards that are good and might work. Finnaly I ended with a deck that I like and feel is pretty strong.
Last season for example I hit legend with pretty fun tempo Paladin with Mukla and Doomsayer :D.
Take an idea for a deck and build a strategy about it.
I don't hit legend every season because by the time I hit rank 5, I get so bored with the slow progression on ranking up. You get on a 3 or 4 game losing streak and you just wasted an hour and a half because now you have to win those 3 or 4 games in a row just to get back to where you started. Those games where you just get a horrible hand against that face hunter that wins by turn 7 or those 20+ minute games that last until fatigue where your opponent pulls just what he needs to skid by with a win. That's the reason I just can't stand the grind to legend. Once was enough for me.
To hit legend, you need many proper decks in order to change whenever the meta shifts. You also need the experience to play them against the other decks. This is very easy to achieve, because Hearthstone isn't rocket science.
The most important part of the equation though is time. If you have a regular time schedule (i.e. real 8h+ work, family, social life) it's almost impossible to get it without sacrificing lots of valuable free time. Then again, you can buy a nice PC, get a channel at Twitch and call it a job...
What I think is the more I lose, the closer I am to legend, as I learn more by losing then by winning. Keep patience, most people are not legends and those who are, are not in their first season or two, takes time to learn.
Also being legend is not the only reason this game is played for.
PS According to these stats only 5,5% gets past rank 10, those aint bad numbers...
I'm pretty sure this is fixed. There must be a lot more players having legend, there's especially more people who got past r10, I'm sure. But if Ben Brode and his minions don't continue to spout out nonsense that rank 10 is good, people will stop playing the game because they're losing sense of achievement, especially the more casual sort. That is further entertained by the fact you get a cardback each month if you get past rank 20 or whatnot - an excuse for them to tell you that you earned something while the truth is getting to rank 20 can be achieved by ashes of your grandma if you put a tablet in her urn, and rank 10 is nothing more.
sorry, my english is poor. why is legendary rank not top 1%? i hv been about 1000 to 3000 in Jan. 2015 and it has been announced that there are 2.5 million accounts of HS in CN. Thus, 3000 / 2.5m < 1%, right? I can not figure out wt u r talking due to my poor english. Could u explain in some simple way?
It's not easy to hit legend, which is why the average player never does. To hit legend you have be experienced, skilled and dedicated. As LiveMorph said, everyone and their mom is running the same decks. By the time something hits the front page of HearthPwn, it's already old news. And personally, I've come the the conclusion that within reason, the deck itself doesn't really matter.
I think it has been said by a couple people in this thread: time, patience and focus.
Last season I had a plan to reach Rank 5ish at the end of the first week and then go for Legend in the remaining 3 weeks. Guess what? After I hit Rank 5 the outlook to play another 200 games against the same 4 types of decks (with 95% the same cards) turned me off completely. Also matches that were tight but were decided by RNG (like Rag hitting my face and none of my 6 minions or my opponents boom bots clearing my board where my bots do 1 damage to their face etc you all know these moments) made me lost focus. So at the end the HS grind just didnt felt fun (or even remotely ok) anymore. I cannot stress it enough: time, patience and focus...
This, RNG can sadly win or lose you a lot of games against equally skilled people (draws, boom hits, rag hits, mc techs, top decks, etc)
The "easiest" way to legend is to play a good deck and play it a lot. If you can play it without making too mant mistakes you should eventually reach it. It may however take a lot of games.
By picking a deck that counters the current meta (usually different from day to day) you can however make it faster, given the ability to pick a good deck and play different decks at a decent level.
Love how he edited it to 10 games average from the initial 5, probably after doing the math :p
yeah, it felt like I barely played anything. And I thought I had a total of 150 games. Only to check and see it was 260~270 (cant tell the exact total because I spammed ladder the last day of season fightning for that top 100)
I only went to check the numbers AFTER I made my post ahhahahaah
I am keeping statistics of my games. I started at rank 18, played strictly for 1-2 hours per day (due to my beloved newborn daughter taking most of my time)... I got a 60ish% win rate and I barely made it to rank 5. Probably it's because I play Paladin?

Switching to face hunter mode!
I played 2 Control lists mostly, Control Rogue (that kelthuzad list posted on this website) and Handlock :P

played the Handlock the most, around 80% of my games were Warlock.
Don't take it the wrong way, I am not taking what you say for lies or wrong or anything. I am just surprised that you did it with that 'low' number of games per day.
I also hate you for running control rogue. Have a nice day!
You really just need concentrate on playing one or two decks and get really good at them. You need to play the decks that suit the meta. For example I used to play a lot of mage. So I tried the tempo mage this season and I've been crushing ladder thiss season. this was my first time getting legend and I've reached as high as rank 5 legend this season.

Check out this article, it will help you assess where your skill level is currently:

You netdeck too much if you think its that easy
Hearthstone is a game of "copy and pasting"

You need 3 things to hit legend: time, time and a lot of time...
12 wins in ArenA with: Mage and Paladin, first time legend with Rogue

Since I hit legend every single this game has ever had I decided to make an experiment this season:
to hit legend playing an avarage of 10 games a day from rank 16 to Legend.
I just made it today =D
The avarage was 9 games/day. Which I dont think is really challenging for most people here. It was less than 1 hour daily
Retired Hearthstone Columnist
9 games/day daily and you hit legend? What was your win rate? 95% or something?
today is day 30, my good sir.
its almost 300 games. it was 60% winrate
