I've done it a few times, not often though. Not as a joke or BM, but there have been some really good matches. Where my opponent has made some truly awesome plays, and I've only won because of a perfect top-deck or draws. Yet they fought tooth and nail to the very end... I gave them the win because they really deserved it. I don't do it often, but when it's deserved I don't mind taking a loss as a way of saying VERY WELL PLAYED. I would prefer games of that level where it's a game to remember, over a win, any day of the week. Ranked or Casual, doesn't matter.
It's those kind of games where you both are trying really hard, yet having fun and sending friendly emotes back and fourth such as 'Well Played' and 'Thanks'. You don't find many good sports playing that are of good skill and don't take their games so personally. Players who get more enjoyment from a very tough/close game than from winning.

Someone effectively did that for me when I was playing my silly tree of life control druid vs his customised grinder mage in casual. We had had an epic match up until this point and just to see if I could live long enough for ysera to work a miracle for me I played tree of life. From a shredder, I had gotten Lorewalker Cho so I gave him a copy of tree of life. I think the game ground on for two more turns and then, and I don't know why, he played tree of life instead of going for lethal. I think perhaps he was just really enjoying the game and wanted to see where it would go. Through some miracle, my ysera had survived this process (the tree of lifes sure helped) and she basically single handedly managed to clear through a fairly full board including Sneeds, thanks to Ysera awakens, then kill the sneeds who spawned a deathwing and then the Ragnaros my opponent played the turn after. My opponent played very well and certainly deserved the win but he essentially gave it to me with the tree of life (although I wasn't sure to win even after it). Maybe I should have conceded at the end.
Anyway, that was one of the most fun games I have had with hearthstone and the back and forth was definitely more important than the outcome, so its not all about winning.

nice, well played sir. not sure I've done it in ranked (probably once or twice bcs they made me laugh as in the OP's example, but may have been in casual), and I don't play casual much, but I do concede in casual at the end of a game to players that are clearly new and playing mostly basic decks, they need the win more than I do. and just maybe it helps keep someone from quitting in frustration, and that can only be good for the game.
depending on how you define "winning" I have also conceded occasionally in ranked while nominally ahead, but after my opponent has had a turn that I know has irrevocably flipped the game (usually that involves a big Kel'Thuzad play, a lucky Sylvannas steal, or a Mind Control). I wouldn't really call that to be winning, but I guess some might. I very rarely do that though, because occasionally there's a chance for an epic comeback from a horrific start which can give some satisfaction even if you ultimately still lose (and sometimes you don't lose which is only more satisfying!)
on the other side, I had a face hunter concede to my control warrior the other day while he was at 30 life because I just sat there trading with my other minions and not attacking into his Explosive Trap with my Sen'jin while I waited for enough cards/mana to put the game in the bag (to be fair, he couldn't have won when I was still at around 20 life by turn 6 or so, but I still found it amusing).

wow something similar just happened to me today (actually yesterday 'cause in my time zone it's already past 00:00)
I was just practicing a little with my demonlock on casual, and was with a big streak, but then, I see this druid, with a deck that i've never seen before, and now that you said it I recognize as a control druid, with ysera and stuff, While I was playing I responded to all the threats he would put against me, like I usually do, because all of them were bombs, and since I haven't used any of my own yet I would just assume he would eventually run out of threats. Damn I was terribly wrong. It seemed like everything he casted on me were bombs, i even had him set for lethal on the next turn several times, but a little taunt here and there and tree of life frustrated my dreams. And then, when I finally think he's done with bombs, and I'm free to just drop down my Mal'gannis or Jaraxxus then he comes with Ysera followed by a streak of legendaryes, I manage do clear his board once more and reach face after losing all my legendaries to his ysera dream stuff, then a tree of life comes, my deck is over, and he starts to put more legendaries on the board. And there I am, with only my hands, my opp with 30 life AND board presence AND cards in his deck. Then he just concedes. And i'm like "Holy Shit what just happened here? 0.0"
After that I just said "thank you" but thinking that I dind't deseve to win that one, I still wanted to have noted his name though :(
PS: I even had to cast Doomguard from my hand to finish a trade. WITH CARDS ON MY HAND. That's just the worst crime you can make with this deck

It wasn't me but it sounds like a similar deck. I ran about 5 or 6 late game legendaries, and one of them was Malorne and he just keeps coming back which helps the druid deck not run out of steam. It sounds like you had a pretty awesome match so I don't think it matters who "deserved" to win so long as you both enjoyed the game. I can say from personal experience that druids running that kind of deck are just happy to have a game where they can get to their late game and start really having fun.
Also, tree of life can be a really insane card sometimes, I wish more people saw that. Plus the animation for it is one of the best.

Well I might say that you shall find a lot of fun with that deck, and also, good job with the "making it fun" concept, I think I should try more stuff like these
Still, I was just getting happy with the possibility that I've just found the guy piloting that deck in that match, but i think it doesn't matter as you just said having fun pays it all, and i'm glad to acknowledge there are people like you that make entertainment really entertaining, nowadays that everything comes down to competition, it is very nice to have some laughs now and then
I do it when I'm playing against someone who has just played basic cards the whole game and using the default card back. I figure they're brand new players just trying to learn the ropes...and it's not their fault they're pitted against me. They might need the win to unlock the class or just wanted to experience exactly how casual "Casual" is.
This is in "Casual" by the way. I don't play enough Ranked to have that ever happen.
I've never quite understood why people concede when they're winning. I was watching Kripp's stream yesterday in arena. His opponent had him utterly destroyed and was BM'n pretty hard. His opponent (mage) could have killed him for about 4 turns straight, was pinging his own face, killing his own minions with spells/pings, emoting sorry and thank you repeatedly etc; with Kripp having only about 2 health. Then, out of the blue, just concedes with a 'well played'. So dumb...
I guess I just don't get why anyone concedes when they are winning. It really doesn't make much sense to me. /shrug
I hate RNG, i love card games. That's a nice goddamn combo. When i lose against the most dirty topdecks & rng deathrattles, i always remember one thing. I'm just as bad as them when it comes to that.
I remember this one game where i played Dr.Skill. The guy against me was a paladin, and he had a 2/4 azure drake on board. After i played my BOOM, he played dark cultist & holy nova. I was pretty screwed, but then the boombots smashed them both for 4 damage and killed them without activating cultist's deathrattle. Later that game my sneeds old shredder gave me Kel'Thuzad, and the sneeds after that gave me ragnaros. That's when i facepalmed & conceded. The guy messaged me: him:"Why did u concede???" me:"After those boombots & Kel'Thuzad i don't deserve to win"
The main idea of this game is to have fun, since in the end it's too much of a retarded RNG-fest to be taken seriously. I don't find it very entertaining to absolutely destroy some random dude playing an interesting self-made deck through insane luck.
But mechmages, facehunters & all other aggros & meta vomits can suck my 4-leaf clover.
i feel the same way though,
agreed mostly with the part you talk about face hunters. It's always a joy to crush them.
but i think i will start to concede to new players and ultimately creative decks for the good games and fun, loved the idea
I concede if the opponent was winning and they obviously disconnected. I know how it feels to be in that situation and to come back to the screen that says "You lost your last ranked match due to a disconnect". Being DCed sucks, and I hope getting a message that they won makes their day a little better.
1) I played against Druid, who clearly had lethal on their next turn but disconnected. I needed two turns of them doing nothing to stabilize and when I had lethal, I conceded instead to give my opponent the win.
2) I was playing as Face Hunter against CW and was at 5 life without any board. He drops Rag, I give them a WP and their Hero Portrait explodes. Looked like conditioning to me. Hunter emotes WP -> I'm dead -> Jetpack time.
I only concede while winning if I need to exit the game because I've been called away by family matters or something. I don't have a ton of time to play each day, so I generally can't afford to give away wins like that.

When do you do it? I always concede to players who pull off the War Golem and Wisps combo. I think they were amazing!
When do you "give" your opponent the win?
If you're happy and you know it... well that's good :)
Never. I don't understand why you would do that, even as a joke.

I just pretend I'm playing against AI, so why would I let the robots defeat me?
in ranked, never, in normal games if I make a massive misplay sometimes I just concede out of embarrassment even if I'm winning.
Never, my misplays are already sufficient to contribute to my undeserved losses.

I make so many misplays... I dont need to concede :D
To live is to suffer, to survive is to find meaning in the suffer!
I must have played the same guy. Almost the exact same story.
