I don't think there is an issue making an implementation so the game saves every deck in local storage (deck managers already do this) except 9 that are flagged for 'shared use' (which would occupy our current -multidevice- slots). This would be updated on the events of flag toggles and deletion of decks. way easier than creating another layer and also doesn't really impact their memory (as the multiclass - 45 slot solution would do)
But yes, I like the idea a lot. In fact, it could make the game simpler for new players, not harder. Maybe have, what, 6 deck slots per class? 5? Not 9, I'm sure, so that's the point: it would be easier to remember which deck is which than it is now, cuz you'd only have a handful for each class, and yet the total deck slots would be much, much larger. I love it.
Not a perfect number I've got to admit, I came up with this in the middle of the most boring LA class ever XD
I was thinking more along the lines of now showing the deck list on the class screen and instead just show the 9 classes. Then once you select a class the deck list appears on the right hand side (as it is now) allowing you to create up to 9 decks per class. Maybe even have the class details and what strengths and weaknesses the class has versus other classes.
Yeah, that would be kind of like the WoW class creation screen. That would be sweet.
I think they will charge for it, usual Blizzard policy, we give you 9 to master the game f2p, if you want more then discuss with our CFO, Trade Prince Gallywix!
It's so not hard to implement this, just use the 9 deck slots to represent each class, click on the class and get 9 deck slots for that class. Bam, done in a single day of programming. The only thing that is taking so long is blizzard is trying to monetize it in some jack ass kind of way.
Like Ben Brode said, it costs a lot of time to discuss how they can do it the best, the programming doesn't take that long, I guess it will be like on mobile phones with scrolling for free.
I'm afraid it could be a microtransaction. Giving everyone more deck slots will only increase the load on the servers. Also, the shop menu on the mobile version has one more tab at the side, which could be where you will buy the slots...
I suspect that the new deck slot UI could be tied to a new play mode. If they create a new play mode where there are restrictions on which cards can be run in it, Hearthstone will need a new deck management UI. Since it is tied to the new mode, the change would be released when the new mode is available. Creating a bunch of deck slots for the existing play format could cause problems if that interface is not compatible with the UI that takes into account the new play mode; people would scream bloody murder if they lost access to some of their existing decks when the interface is changed.
I believe that Ben Brode hinted that something was being planned to address the issue of it being difficult for new players to catch up to the growing card pool. A new play mode for which a only subset of cards can be used (like the rotating Standard format in Magic), would make it easier to build top tier decks. They did not offer details, but I think he hinted that they will giving news "soon."
The only alternative I see for the delay is that they want to create a "power user UI" that can be unlocked for $. Paying for deck slots alone looks like a raw deal, but maybe they could throw in other bells and whistles as part of the package. Things that enhance the Hearthstone experience, but not are necessary to play. (Not sure what else they could put in there.)
Maybe that new UI could have in mind a new 2vs2 coop mode? :)
I'd be really surprised if they could make that work. They rightly want to keep the game playable on a phone, and I have no idea how you'd get enough real estate for 2v2 on a phone screen.
Some of the Tavern Brawls allow us to create a deck for that week's Tavern Brawl. Is it really as challenging a task as Blizzard has described it to be when they've already implemented extra deck slots effectively with those Tavern Brawls?
The average legend hearthstone player couldn't handle more deck slots. Furthermore, why would Blizzard add more slots if they've already given us Secret Paladin which is the only deck you need to play.
My point is they know how to give us extra deck slots because we get them with some Tavern Brawls. All this talk from them about how it's taking so much time is a load of crap.

Man Elias, what constructive advice!
20$ for 1 additional slot.
Stream Status: Offline
Select game mode
Select class
Select deck from that class: Up to 9 decks per class.
They can increase the size of a deck slot, so that there's only room for 3-5 per class.

I don't know about cost, but after all this time it's better to cure cancer. Or balance Dr. Boom.

3 Decks slots for Free...
with pre-purchase of World of Warcraft: Legion Collector's Edition
There could be just a scroll. I don't think it will be paid feature.
Didn't someone at Blizzard say that they don't want to make it paid? I think I remember a statement which was like that.

The ability to save and load decks would be far superior to deck slots.
Free to try and find a game, dealing cards for sorrow, cards for pain.
