So prior to the UT nerf, there was a lot of talk about the doctor - Dr. Boom. Now it seems the attention has shifted to Mech Mage and it's current reign in the meta. The question is, do people believe Dr. Boom is still unbalanced and nerfworthy. My theory is that the attention on Dr. Boom was predicated on the UT nerf 'fixing' the meta, leading to a midrange/control renaissance in which the good doctor was the biggest threat. Now that the UT nerf has failed to curtail aggro, does Dr. Boom still represent a problem or are there bigger fish to fry?

I think he definitely needs a nerf! This is mostly because I've unpacked a Normal and a Golden Boom so I would very much so like the 4800 dust that would come with the nerf. He is so unbearably difficult to deal and no one card effectively deals with Dr. Boom for an efficient trade. He is just too much for his cost.
Everyone is running BGH in the current meta, mostly because of him so i wouldn't say that he's THAT difficult to deal with.
People are even trending to run none BGH target in their deck to make the card totally dead in the hand of their opponent.
Although even before Boom was released the high number of Ragnaros in decklists or simply the handlock match up were already a good reason to run BGH.
I don't mind this card, just happy that he didn't turned out to be 6 attack because that would be a real problem. He also fill the 7 mana nicely, before him that spot was very limited.
I think the Undertaker nerf was also an indirect Dr. Boom nerf considering Dr. Boom's partial roll in aggressive decks as a late game +2/2 Undertaker buff has been mitigated.
The card is really strong, but I don't think it's necessarily format defining strong in the sense Undertaker was so while annoying he isn't necessarily thrusting any particular archetype down people's throats.
No one knows. Some find him too powerful, others not. Bliz seems to like to give the meta some time to adjust so I wouldn't expect a solid answer for a good couple months at least.
If he gets nerfed it will probably be to 8 mana, as making him a 6/7 is actually an improvement, taking him out of BGH range. Although as I've said in other threads the reason he's run so much is partly because there are so few good 7 drops, if Bliz thinks this too expect more 7 drops in the next expansion.
Here's an interesting question that I've always pondered: do the rarities of cards affect Blizzard's decision-making process as far as nerfs go? To elaborate a bit, will Blizzard nerf a Common or Basic card more liberally than they would a Legendary due to dust reasons?
Personally, I'd tend to say yes. Blizzard doesn't want everyone who has crafted a popular legendary to just get 1600 dust, which can then be used to craft another Legendary.

Want to stay ahead of the metagame? Check out my decks! I'm a deckbuilder who likes to counter the current meta and define the meta of tomorrow.
The meta responded to Dr. Boom by putting Big Game Hunter in almost every deck. Unlike undertaker, which required you to hope you had a card to counter it in your opening hand, there are plenty of ways of handling Dr. Boom.
Honestly, I don't think Dr.Boom needs an immediate nerf, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did (in the future). The card is neither overrated nor underrated; 7 mana for a 7/7 that gets a pair of boom bots is not that broken for a legendary card. The question or skeptic is how much those boom bots are worth mana-wise. I'd personally value the boom boots at 1.5 mana each, which is like 1 mana for dealing 1-4 damage randomly to something and half a mana for a 1/1 worth of stats. So 2 boom bots will add up to 3 mana, which means Dr.Boom itself is like a 4 mana 7/7 which is kind of broken stat-wise. Some might argue that the 7 damage makes him a big game hunter target, so he's not that big of a deal. Yes, big game hunter should be played more now because of Dr.Boom AND because undertaker's been nerfed so we'll probably see less aggro decks and maybe more control decks? Anyways, Dr. Boom only has great stats if you think about it like that, but he's still a BGH target let's not forget.
considering Undertaker and Flare weren't nerfed until atleast a single expansion came out AND a meta was defined around that expansion I seriously doubt ANY GvG cards will be nerfed until a month after the next expansion.
The reason being it's always better to design hate cards around strong cards or synergies then it is to nerf a card or strategy. GvG had multiple hate cards introduced, but they didn't actually answer Undertaker, thus, Undertaker was finally nerfed a month after GvG.
He's used in roughly 33% of decks here on Hearthpwn compared to Undertakers 13%, I don't know if that really means OP seeing as Sylvanas is used in about 29% but it sure says something about em.
The way i see this is: a 7/7 for 7 mana is really bad (see War Golem) Boom would be better if he would be a 6/7. Bolderfist Ogre is a 6/7 for 6 that's why i rate Boom in itself as worth slightly below 6 (because 7 attack is worse than 6 bgh). The boom bots are 1/1 which are worth both 1 mana. So Boom is slightly below 8 mana in my rating which is fine for a 7 mana legendary. However I think that the Boom Bots are a bit over the top. They should probably only deal 1-3 dmg.
So my suggestion would be keep Dr. Boom as a 7/7 and chance the Boom Bots 1/1 to just deal 1-3 dmg.
This. Having a bot randomly pop a 4 health minion is just crushing.
He's used now because there used to be nearly no valid 7 mana drop minion until recently. It only depended on your class (Druid had options for that slot for instance) or your game plan (Baron Geddon was mostly seen only in Warrior Control or against Shaman / weenie rush meta) to run a 7 mana minion otherwise your turn 7 used to be some kind of turn 6 again.
Before nerfing him, Blizzard will probably to release another 7-mana legendary or epic that can rivalize with Boom in the next set. Then, if things are going out of control... they probably adjust him if they think it's better like this. However, I do not believe that Dr. Boom is the most unbalanced thing as this very moment in the game. He's pretty damn good... I don't say the contrary.

Used to be a proud Handlock player.
Legend 17 times.
Still flirting with the ladder from times to times with Renolock.
I wouldn't have a problem with Boom if not for the 7 mana cost. He rivals Ragnaros in value but comes out one turn earlier, turning into a nice finisher for some aggro/midrange decks. And control loves him anyway, that's why it feels like you see him every game.
People always mention Loatheb as an almost auto-include, but his impact is severely limited depending on who you face, while Boom is a god in every possible scenario.
the most i see happening to dr. boom is getting a stat nerf to 7/5 or 7/4 but other then that, mech warper i feel is a far more broken mess to deal with then anything else. make it a 3 cost or a 4 cost and you have a pretty balanced card that can still be more useful then undertaker but still not low enough cost to create massive snowballing effects.
Oh brother, stop the nerf Dr Boom talk. Nerf the whole mech mage thing first. Good lord, they are like flies. Nerf the weak dick face hunter where someone can win 60% while watching TV and just dropping minions and hitting face randomly (I know, I went 4/5 watching Gotham as a test...don't remember a damn thing I did because it didn't matter).
So stop with that and work on the real bullshit in this game.
Dr Boom is definitely a nerf-worthy in my eyes. He is 11 to 19 damage to deal with the turn he his the board. I could buy the Big Game Hunter if the Boom Bots died with their master, but even after dealing with the doctor there is still two 1/1s to trade with and an accompanying 2-8 damage to one or two targets to deal with. Point being - even when he's hard-countered there is great value still left on the board. He's the only legendary I've felt really compelled to craft because there is virtually no way he does not get value. Cairne Bloodhoof is the only neutral legendary that comes to mind that can realize it's value in virtually any circumstance. Others are either circumstantial, randomly useless, potentially detrimental, or slow.
I think if he summoned one Boom Bot at the end of each turn he would be more reasonable (and potentially more valuable if kept alive). Or have the bombs able to explode on any random character. Or change the bomb damage to 2. Or giver the Boom Bots taunt, make him a 0/7 and add "Deathrattle: Summon a Boom Bot" to compliment his initial two.
I think there is a nerf coming for the doctor simply because there is no reason not to play him.
Edit: Hate to say nerf... Change would be better. He just needs some potential liability or reason to be played circumstantially.
