I have 2 copies of Redemption in my deck. They are my only secrets.
I played Mad Scientist, it died, and pulled a copy of Redemption from my deck.
I played a second Mad Scientist, which was destroyed, triggering Redemption.
Mad Scientist was resummoned as a 2/1, however, he did not pull the second Redemption from my deck.
I traded the 2/1 Mad Scientist, and it then pulled the second Redemption from my deck, confirming that it was not played at another point in the game.
This must be a bug? I see no reason why his deathrattle wouldn't have triggered, as all other Deathrattles trigger, in addition to redemption triggering.
Has anyone else experienced this? or something similar?
Probably because the redemption was still in play when the second mad scientist died, you can't have 2 of the same secret, and you had no other secrets. So the order of events.
1. Redemption in play
2. Mad scientist starts dying.
3. Mad scientist's deathrattle triggers and tries to pull a secret.
4. There's only redemptions, and redemption is in play, so deathrattle fizzles.
5. Mad scientist deathrattle finishes resolving and finishes dying.
6. Mad scientist is dead.
7. There is no secret.
8. His family mourns.
9. The undertaker comes.
10. Too bad he wasn't played before the mad scientist though, missed a buff "that was a mistake"

11. It's ok there are other mad scientists
12. Some of them even like redemption
13. How do you redeem a mad scientist
14. Coupons.
15. I'll stop now it's lunchtime
This seems to be the only conclusion I can think of, but I clearly remember other instances where it didn't work this way.
I've had games where Mad Scientist activates redemption, pulls second redemption, then dies again, triggering the second redemption, and has nothing else in the deck to pull.
I usually avoid playing scientist with redemption out, for this reason. I just happened to be in a situation today where it was unavoidable.

Deathrattles are triggered before secrets I guess?
The better question is why you aren't also running avenge.
