So i was talking to a friend of mine about hunter and how easy it is to do well with that class and he checked the card nerfs of previous patches. Apart from the first nerf patch hunter has been nerfed in some way or another in every other patch.
Patch 1, Nat paggle & Tinkmaster Overspark.
Patch 2, Unleash The Hounds.
Patch 3, Eaglehorn Bow.
Patch 4, Leeroy Jenkins & Starving Buzzard.
Patch 5, Flare, Soulfire & Gadgetzan Auctioneer.
Would it not be time to rework the class rather than to keep nerfing it's cards? I mean clearly it's not working if in the majority of card balance changes they make they are all aimed at Hunter. It's just a stupid cycle it's going through, Blizz nerf one thing about hunter and then another thing takes over.
It clearly is not working if more nerfs are going to be aimed at Hunter, Imo the 2 biggest problems with hunter is Undertaker and Mad Scientist getting free freezing traps completely surrendering board control to the hunter.
I reached legend last season with hunter and i found those 2 things were just crippling my opponents and made it very hard for them too come back.
Undertaker: Change it from +1/+1 to only gaining +1 Attack
I think the biggest strength of the class is piling up damage so quickly. I think the hero power needs to be modified somewhat, though you'd have to come up with something unique that isn't just a duplicate of another class's hero power.
Maybe something like, give your weapon +1 attack or +1 durability? Sure that could be infinite Eaglehorn Bows, but he would be required to facetank that damage.
Infinite Gladiator's Longbows would be a problem if you did +1 durability, though. :-)

I don't know what you can do to "rework it." It's honestly the best built class. I don't mean in strength. There are so many different kinds of synergy. The nerfs make sense because it's unfair. But I think this set was in the right direction of building up other synergy options for other decks. IE Demons for Warlock, and Murlocs for Shaman. Or mechs for anyone. They just didn't go quite far enough with them.
Didn't Unleash the Hounds actually start as a 4 mana spell? Then it was brought to 2 mana (in the dreaded 4 mana buzzard + hounds combo days), and now it sits nicely at 3 mana. Still sucks to lose to the card, sure, but it's fine.
Either way, everything was necessary. The Eaglehorn Bow fix was necessary because in the mirror match, it basically came down to who got that first. Now, again, Eaglehorn Bow is balanced, and still sees play all the time.
Also, since GvG, hunter is probably one of my less seen classes, surprisingly enough (still above rogue of course). All is fine now. Antique Healbots really made hunters a tolerable opponent. They don't need a rework or any further nerfs in my opinion.

And before that it used to be "Give your beasts +1 attack and charge". I think it is by far the most changed card in HS.

Patch 3, Eaglehorn Bow.

Patch 5, Flare, Soulfire & Gadgetzan Auctioneer.
Nat/Overspark: These were not targeted to Hunter. In fact back at this meta Hunter was almost non-existent.
UTH: What you forgot to mention is that the UTH nerfs were a response to the card being reworked from it's useless state into something ridiculously OP. Eaglehorn Bow: This was more a fix than a nerf
Leeroy/Buzzard: Leeroy wasn't really targeted at Hunter; it was targeted at Handlock and Miracle Rouge. Buzzard nerfs were needed badly.
Flare ect: Again, needed. But saying Gatgetzan's nerf was a nerf to Hunter is outright hilarious. Hunter NEVER ran Gadgetzan.
It's just overpowered across the board, it's almost as if you could pick any card and there's a sizeable community of people with solid arguments about why it's overpowered or undercosted: savanna high mane, freezing trap, explosive trap, animal compassion, the list is almost endless. The best balanced cards are the control cards which never see play because the facehunter style of play is so obscenely overpowered.
What pisses me off most is that Hunter players say they don't play control because their control cards are so weak, but do they know what the situation is like for eg. control Paladin? We would pray for a card that let us do 2 mana targeted damage with our hero power.
Well I don't know others but Buzzard is totally useless right now. Nobody will play Buzzard. They just basically removed that card in the game. 3 2 body for 5 mana is just insanely high. So ofcourse hunters will play cancer decks since they got less synergy with beasts. And why people complain about hunters now? They just created more cancer decks by own.
And you still want to nerf Hunters? No doubt you are doing bad with your p2w control classes even then.
Stop whining in hunter meta adjust your class. Honestly hunter is very balanced right now. It's strong but not op. Rogue is the least played class but control rogue is quite decent. Shammy might be a little unbalanced because it's not good enough, but all in all blizzard has done a wonderful job with GvG in Terms of balancing out the classes.

Actually i think quite opposite of this post. They really broke the game with GvG.
Paladin: One of the Strongest
Rogue: One of the Weakest
Yeah nice balance indeed.
Do you know which was the weakest before this expansion even? And, why a lot of people act like they know everything about this game. I don't even know.
Lol if rogue is the weakest why I have I used rogue to climb from rank 11 to rank 3 in two days lol. People are just not open to trying radically new rogue builds. Paladin is much stronger now but is definitely not the best class.

I find it surprising that there's so much hate for Mad Scientist into Freezing Trap. My experience from playing hunter is that this situation usually leads to an inefficient use of the trap. Freeze is definitely the trap I want to play myself, not have randomly pulled in to the board.
I think the real hate for Hunter is there, because Hunter is such a forgiving class according to missplays. You can make some stupid trades, cast bad timed secrets and still win with the huge amounts of damage the spells produce...I think Hunter is a cool class, but some class cards are soooo incredible better than other ones that you don´t have to consider playing another style than aggro...there was this time before Naxx, where you saw straight face decks or slower paced midrange decks, but since Undertaker is released, the aggro decks are so succesful, that it doesn´t make sense playing another deck. Hearthstone needs time and more (more more more more) cards, so we will have more divergences in the classes themselves and so the class doesn´t need to be reworked.
I think you got this just right, most of my frustration with hunter, being a shaman player, is the amount of misplays hunters can have and still have opportunities to win. It would just be nice if at least a minimal amount of thought went into playing hunter.
Not sure eaglehorn was a bugfix as it's card text was nerfed from 'a secret' to 'a friendly secret'...
I believe there was some statement at the time about how it was always intended to be a friendly secret, and the fact that it triggered on enemy secrets was an oversight. And also, iirc, it wasn't initially going to be offered as a full dust DE, but an outcry forced them to make it so.
But regardless of whether it was an "oops, we never meant to do that" nerf, or a "crap, this card is too strong" nerf, it was undeniably a nerf.

You're kidding right? Hunter is no where close to balanced. You can misplay all day and win with just your hero power and undertaker wombo combo.
Ì second this, i have seen hunters make miss play after miss play and still pull a win out of their ass. It's just a no skill low risk high reward class.

Freezing trap... don't add 2 to the cost. That would induce slightly less rage.

I really want Pirates to be a playable theme.
1. Nat Pagle & Tinkmaster Overspark was not hunter-specific.
3. Eaglehorn Bow wasn't a nerf, it was a bugfix.
4. Leeroy Jenkins was mostly miracle.
5. Soulfire isn't hunter, Gadgetzan Auctioneer also not really.
all in all there were 2.5 nerfs of 1 specific combo (Buzzard+maybe Leeroy +UtH), and a nerf to flare, really not that many.
