Common and rares are cards you probably will get quite fast with opening packs. If you need THAT common, sure just craft it but I never found myself in a situation were I really felt the need to do so. It's mostly epics and legendaries that you'll be missing.
Spending dust on a card is a much less efficient use of resources than getting it in a pack. Thus, you should spend dust on cards you are less likely to get in packs, like Legendaries (maybe Epics if you need specific ones.)

I know that I may get some salt for saying this, but, however, I think this might be "right": make a cheap deck - zoo or hunter - and I think that naxx comes first in the "must buy" section because of Sludge, Loatheb and Undertaker since they are really important and you will get them for sure if buy the wing. Doing that you can climb the ladder while putting some gold in the pocket and with that you do arena - if you are good at it, if yo are not, try to learn and fast, because is kind of needed - and buy some normal packs in between arenas.

True, but there isn't any real "need" to climb the ladder to claim said gold. You're not getting any additional bonuses from ladder besides a cool number in the upper right. You can do the exact same thing in casual.
That being said it isn't an awful idea to build a "functional" deck to assist in gold farming before you actually have cards that matter. Zoolock/Facehunter will win games and earn gold in a fairly consistent manner

Try the ladder is good for new players because they usually get ranked agaisnt decks that are on the same levels, because let's face it, casual is not casual because you see a lot of "pro decks" in there and not that much on rank 18. But yeah, you could do casual or ladder, that's your choice, but building a good, cheap and solid deck comes first.
I DE my first legendary (thermaplugg) to craft 2 feral spirits and 2 defender of argus, also DE'ed 5 crap rares (angry chicken, ancient mage, ravenhodlt assasin etc) to craft a lightning storm. Without those cards it's just impossible for me to play the deck i want, so i went for it. So far, after opening 10 more packs post crafting, yet to come across a crafted rare that will make me regret my decision.
Some decks just need those essential rares, like cabal shadow priest, auchenai soulpriest, doomguard, feral spirits, keeper of the grove, humility, wild pyromancer, goblin blastmage etc. All these are cards that defines the deck itself.
If your deck don't have those 6-8 core cards that you need to define it, chances are you might not have it even after you collected 1600 dust, and at that point, that single legendary won't help your undefined deck.
I wouldn't hesitate to DE crap rares just to get my deck-defining rares. I'm one lightning storm short and i'm looking at cards like secretkeeper etc to sacrifice. Cards that survived the DE axe so far are my Ancient of Lore, Argent Commander, Golden Sunwalker, Vaporize, etc. Some players are even more gung ho and DE basically any rare outside the class, can't bring myself to that.
With the likes of Cairne not seeing play, legendaries are no longer "ultra-safe" option that can withstand meta change, so putting all 1600 dust in one basket might hurt you when the next release hits. My brother crafted 2 preparations before the auctioneer nerf, and now they are there collecting dust (pun intended).

Guys, what do you think it's worth more: spend all the dust you have to get lots and lots of common or rare cards required for decks...
or...
Save it all up for those big game breaking legends?
I know the later might sound appealing, but it's hard to win matches (and therefore, to get gold) without many important and cheaper cards.
What do you guys think? Also, what is your strategy to save and spend dust?

Do or do not. There is no try.
