I recently got to rank 7 mostly due to win streaks. I usually end up between 12-9 at the end of the season (EU).
After 13 games (with only 3 wins in the middle) I understood that I don't have patience or time to deal with meta decks only focused to get to rank 5+. I faced 4 wallet warriors, 3 handlocks, 3 huntard zoo and the occasional FoN+SR druid or mech mage. No signs at all from the other classes or other types of decks. I was getting bored, tired and most importantly, not having fun.
This happened 1 week ago. During this week, I only played on casual mode and on ranks 19-15 in another account. Since I like to play every class and rank them at the same time (most of them are above lvl 48) this was a marvelous experience. Games are shorter, deck types are abundant, BM is almost non existent (in my experience), wins for the golden hero are easier to achieve and most of the time I was either improving my play style or tweaking my decks. Even when I lost games or went down the ladder, I never felt bad. I mean, why should I?...
That's awesome! There's definitely nothing wrong with that, one of the best things about card games is that they can mean something different to each person.
You don't have to spend your game time grinding the ladder if you don't want to!

Nice post. Couldn't agree with you more. Fun is what it is all about. That definitely includes shorter games, nonexistent bad manners, and abundant deck types!
Also what Quiet said. To each there own. If people love the challenge of legend then good for them as well.
<snip> A few months ago I spent 2 seasons at low ranks (conceded to 20 then winstreaked to 13, repeat) farming golden portraits for those classes that I rarely play (like paladin) and it was a painful and very boring experience. After the first few freewins your brain starts to numb, and there is no feeling of accomplishment in any win. I was also worried that I will get worse if I get used to not getting punished for my greedy moves or misplays, and I also started to adapt to the gimmicky decks and strange openings which never see play at the top ladder. My worries also proved right and I had to practice to have a chance against my legend friends again when I stopped farming. The only fun for me is to face strong players with strong decks where every turn counts and 1 mistake costs you the game. However it is completely fine if you enjoy playing at low ranks or casual games. It is like playing chess at a club level where you have to memorize openings, or playing casually for the love of the game. Just please don't make complaints about balance/cards/classes then if you choose this way, because you will have no deep understanding of the game to make such claims.

You can't not see this... You must be joking. You think it's boring to spend half an hour conceding matches? Whoda thunk it? Did you also only use Zoo or hunter for faster/more-efficient games?

Well you may get harder opponents at later ranks however the deck diversity will be poor up there and some players like diversity, casual or not. Lately i was more into making my own decks and its fun to beat those strong decks copied from the internet.
I didn't play zoo/hunter because I already had golden warlock and hunter from playing handlock and hunter (in every season on my way to legend I was trying to unlock a new golden class). My goal was not gold farming, so I didn't need efficient games, I needed the golden portraits only because I had a few remaining. The only one I miss right now is shaman because I almost never play that class. And yes, conceding a ton of games is boring, but playing uninteresting games is much worse.
There is enough diversity which makes the game healthy, especially now after GvG. I see every class being played, but of course some are a lot more frequent, same applies to deck types. If diversity means Mogushan warden decks then no, thanks.

5 - Legend is a snoozefest. Especially if you're running into control mirriors.
Can't blame anyone for wanting to stay lower.

I really want Pirates to be a playable theme.

Fun is relative my friend.
