I don't enjoy playing Legend in ranked standard. Everyone uses the exact same decks for each hero, and too many of them are impossible to beat. Just not a lot of creativity and fun. At least when I'm climbing the ranks before Legend there are all kinds of decks people play with, and it's a lot more fun. I have only reached Legend the past two months, but I'm hoping with the new expansion we will see a little more variety. Otherwise I'm going back to 24/7 Battlegrounds.
So legend is a place where multiple good players play good decks to try and win matches of Hearthstone. Also many classes are viable and have been viable the last few months and there is lots of variety in deck building.
Same happens to me when playing Battlegrounds: I enjoy every new season cause you can fresh start trying some silly comps/strategies and still manage to pull some good games (at least go for top 4 with a funny composition). But the closer you get to 10K, everybody seems to be looking for the same trinkets/minions/comps, depending on available & banned tribes, and it gets kinda pray for X particularly broken trinket, and/or be the first player getting the MVP minions of the "strongest" tribe/strategy available in that lobby. I mean, in the end is a bit of the same both in standard and BGs, but it's true that the "more RNG nature" of Battlegrounds helps keeping it a bit less monotonous.

its still ladder, the quality of player is just slightly better
This is Heartstone man.... ;D play some fun decks to dia and then stop playing standard
if you have problem with that just go back to 24/7 Battlegrounds.

Play your own deck in Wild. You will naturally stay out of Legend and have more fun with more variety.
Developers' inability to balance is one thing; players choosing to abuse it is another.
