I used to play HS alot but I stopped playing like 2-3 years ago. I always liked playing it to kill some time on my phone so I am keen to start again.
I still have alot of stuff and around 10k dust. Is there anything I should buy? I dont mind spending a little money.
As far as favorite decks goes, I always liked the control/combo decks. Not aggro, #1 deck was always Miracle Rogue (if that what it was called?), Druid with the rush combo and the Freeze Mage where you kept fireballing the hero.
This is my second time coming back. I would suggest playing a free deck, for now. They'll give you a week to experiment with some free ones. After that I'd check the sight to see which legendaries you see in a good bit of decks before committing to some class legendaries. That's a lot of dust, but you don't want to spend it all in one class.
I’m the same. I played for 5-6 years. Spent money from day one the game released and got sick of spending money a year after Wild dropped and most my cards I spent money getting became useless cuz I only play ranked and arena. So I took a 3-4 year break and when I started I just played arena so I can get a feel for the new mechanics. New cards. Get my turn speed under control cuz every card is new. Then I went to ranked and they gave me an option to pick from 6 valid decks for competitive play. Each having 2-4 legendaries in them. I picked DK plague knight. Got the extra legendaries I needed and started really getting back into the game. Unfortunately. A new set is dropping. And I don’t like that lol
I don't know too many combo/control decks currently working well enough at the moment. The good news is catch up packs. See if there are any bundles available for you to purchase. Those packs can have up to 50 cards per pack. Paladin seems to be doing well. You could start there. They like to summon a lot of dudes and buff. Hard to deal with eventually. If you're an Amazon Prime member I would check to see if there are any free packs redeemable from Twitch's website. Its always a good idea to come back at around April for the Standard rotation. You wont be missing much. I suggest only buying the latest expansion packs if you want to eventually catch up in Standard when next years rotation happens.
My advice is don't start unless you plan on paying $$ to build your collection. The game is currently at an all time bad condition for f2p.
that is so far from the truth. grinding nowadays gives you more gold than before and mini-sets give you more dust than ever. there are also achievements which help on leveling up or even getting golden undustable versions of cards if you play them a certain amount of times.
between 2017 and 2019 when i played this game the most it was waaaaaaayyyyyy worse.

Maybe if you are a bad player, I used to win 30 games everyday and get my 100g +40-50g from quests. Now with average of 25 exp per game you need to play 60 games at max reward track to get 100g daily.
Edit: Sorry I am bad at math, you actually need 120 games for 2 reward track levels 3000exp/25= 120

Fancy random numbers. The Cherry on top is, you also ignore the fact that there are quests.
You are indeed very bad at math. 30 wins and 60 Games ist pretty much the same in this game.
The new system is way better than the old system, every change (that I can think of) has been neutral or positive and they just give you more stuff for free now.
Remember when there was no duplicate protection and most legendaries were terrible and the first legendary you opened was Nat Pagle and then you opened a second Nat Pagle as like your 4th or 5th legendary?
And there was no core set or reward track giving you free legendaries so you had to save up 40 dust over and over until you had 1600 to craft boring cards like Bloodmage Thalnos 'cause he was in every deck despite being really low impact? And then you opened Bloodmage Thalnos after you crafted him and he was all "We Hunger for Vengeance!" and you played a different video game for a bit.

That was way worse.
I agree with the 2nd and 3rd parts, duplicate protection and core set are good.
The gold earning is reduced though. Also the difficulty of making a good deck (from pack opening) remains the same, cuz back then legendary cards sucked and you wouldn't want to run too many of them in a deck, unlike now where almost every legendary card WILL win you more games.
Imo you don't need to buy anything and especially combo decks are generally cheap. If you want to craft something, you can go for some neutral versatile powerhouses like Zilliax deluxe 3000 and Reno Lone Ranger.
When I returned to HS I decided to play wild with only one class, so I disenchanted all the other class cards. The wild card pool is deep enough that every class can play every basic archetype (aggro, midrange, control, combo), so I don't get bored. I play a few games every couple of weeks and it's been enough to get 2k gold for each miniset.

your math is bonkers and your estimations are false.
120 games for 2 reward track levels? that's so false. I get between 40-50 exp per game (loss OR win), which means 2400 exp the least. add 1000 exp from daily quest and you get 3400, which means 1.5 levels before 100 and 2.3 levels after 100.
this is not counted to all achievements that give you either cards or exp.
there are also returning player rewards, which give you plenty of cards.
By the way: did you ever calculate the amount of dust you usually get from mini sets, compared to the amount of dust you usually get from normal packs? did you ever calculate the amount of dust you get from GOLDEN packs compared to NORMAL packs? did you ever calculate the amount of dust you get from GOLDEN mini-sets? ==> THESE ARE INSANE VALUE PACKS compared to what was 5 years ago.
You sir don't know what you are talking about. and saying you are bad at math then trying to prove something mathematically made you look dumb to be honest.
I might be a bad player, but the rewards are pretty much the same wether you win or lose. so that argument is invalid.

opening normal packs is the worst deal you can make in hearthstone shop.

Seeing how you have a lot of wild cards already, you might consider playing in Wild games.Wild games can get out of hand with broken cards, but the variety of decks you will play against is better than standard.
I would also warn about spending a lot of dust and maybe money this close to an expansion. The meta will likely change a lot after its release changing what you want to craft. But buying catch up packs and complete mini sets are likely the best rout. If you buy catch up packs open them before any packs from expansions or buying mini sets. That way you get the most out of them.

Dust does not burn a hole in the jar. Be careful what you craft, especially before and right after a rotation.
Everyone thank you for your replies! We recently had a baby so it was a busy times. Playing HS again helped with some of the boredom inbetween feeding time.
I took my time and tried the different decks you could get for free. I decided to go with Rogue and played with a thieve Rogue for quite a while. It also helped me understanding all cards and decks better. Once I got higher on ladder I played with Paladin. Ive seen the hate around the deck, but honestly there weren't any viable decks that were fun to begin with.
I was happy to see that aggressive decks weren't as strong anymore as I always hated then.
Today, almost a month after asking I reached Legend again! Hopefully next expansion there will be a cool combo/1HK deck again as thats always been my favorite archetype.
You saying that ,it was easy-er winning 30 games back in the days then now ,can mean only 1 of few things ...
1.Good decks/bigger collection are much more affordable to all players.
2.There is not that big of a gap between deck winrates therefore game is more stable
3.Players steadily got better ,game became more challenging
4.There are more bots in the game then before to make the game more challenging
5.The matchmaking system changed/they altered how hidden MMR was calculated
Regarding The gold gain/income :
A small percentage of players were hitting the 100 gold daily limit ,since it required alot of time investment (you 1 of them was affected)
Now you can farm mercenarys and practically have no gold limit and no win requirement at the cost of doubling the time investment.
The old dailys compared to the new daily+weekly give about the same gold (370 old) and (420 new)
SO in conclusion you are making less gold if you were investing alot of time but if you were the person to just do the dailys and play about 1 hour daily your gold income would be almost the same maybe with a slight advantage to the new system.
On the other hand buying 80 packs and a miniset for 10.000 gold nets you way bigger of a collection then pre 2019 for the same 10.000

Ditto. I crafted couple wild deck: big shaman and imba quest warlock (this one rocks).
Quickly hit legend 3k with warlock.
There are ofc more viable wild decks, like kings bane rogue, but i didnt try them out, though i saw them showing good results.
As for standart - for returning players they offer free standart decks. I took warrior. And it is pretty good for standart to move close to diamond.
