I've always tried to play off meta but hardly meet anyone else who try meme decks. I'd say 9/10 decks are identical. As far as I can tell, I meet one unique deck for each archetype. I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to eliminate cards and provide more archetypes with the same deck. There would be more variety that way. As it stands, there's none.
Today I reached legend, after facing countless paladins, warriors, DK and a few DH. And you know what happened right after I got legend? I met a rogue off-meta deck.
In D5 to Legend grind, everybody does play meta, to get legend, to play off-meta.
Off-meta is fun m8.
P.S.: I know the struggle, I've reached Legend multiples times but it was my first with an off-meta build.
I think new players shouldn’t be encouraged to craft decks, it gives the impression that you can craft your deck and win, in reality there’s a very limited selection of viable decks. While some will change a card here and there, full blown experimentation means you can’t really win. Maybe that’s card games in general, not hs specific but it gets repetitive so quickly.
They have the same problem in MTGA Bo1. Game is less stale and repetitive in Bo3 where you have more agency to modify your deck with a sideboard, and in Commaner/Hbrawl, where there is no ranked system. Told ya, grind system makes it so.

Off meta is for when you want to have fun and/or know how to build your own successful decks.
meta is for when you want to feel good about being bad at the game and squeeze wins out of low mmr players.

Exactly, off-meta is the challenge above meta. It is the proof you've started to understand what is it to be a dedicated OG gamer.
Getting legend is the highest reward for most of the player base, so most will want to go with the most consistent deck archetypes to get there.
