why do people even bot in this game, I get it in WoW because you can sell gold on online markets, but why HS? The reward economy is self-contained.
Most of 'm are blizzard bots i reckon. Just look at hsreplay stats, every other expansion the weekly played games went up to 15-16 million after launch. This expansion it went up to 8.9 million and has been dropping since, already down to 8.2 as we speak, with only 305k unique people using deck tracker in a week. There's been a mass exodus from hs it seems, people finally being fed up, and blizzard is trying to salvage things with bots...
* another strange thing that I saw in 2 games:shaman bot playing rogue cards all the way, like he got rogue deck (wtf?)
I had this happen recently. It was playing as Brukan with the totem hero power but playing rogue cards. It even played a Tess that replayed all the rogue cards it played that game since the hero was a shaman.
Lets think logically. No such bot with crappy deck and no brain can achieve gold or plat. Even if they play 10 years. So we face only Blizzard bots, nothing less.
Noone is making money selling those bots, its just stupid and non-profitable. Especially in such industrial scale. You can google it and see for yourself, only several fools will buy those accounts.
So why Blizzard make thousands bots? We all know why. Its profitable for many reasons. Not even gonna write it.
And also you think most big gaming company in the world which makes different kinds of complex AI - suddenly makes only bad HS-bots with crappy decks and no logic? Think bigger.

I've seen a Rogue playing Shaman cards and a Shaman playing Rogue cards. Screenshots included.
This throws out any doubt that the only reason the Hearthstone team has been silent about bots is because... they own a good chunk of them. Lose a game or two, you start disliking the game/format. But if we sprinkle these bots, most people won't notice and will feel happy to win. Keep them playing. Maybe purchasing a limited time bundle!
Edit: Notice the names - MightyBeast, HiddenSquid, I am also pretty sure i have seen SneakyTurtle and so on. Their own cringy random name generators.
2. It’s not only necessarily about profit. Some members here, in this very forum, admit to using bots. This dates 2014 but still apply as to why they do it:
Botters can easily set their routines to gather these wins while they sleep or go to work, and use the gathered gold to buy a pack per day. This effectively rewards them for a practice that frustrates the rest of the player base.
So why Blizzard make thousands bots? We all know why. Its profitable for many reasons. Not even gonna write it.
3. Well, no you should write it because it’s likely the opposite:
Running a bot overnight, by virtue of sheer volume of matches and brute-force tactics, can net a botter their 500 wins for a prestigious golden hero portrait, or the gold from their daily quests. Some of the more sophisticated programs can even fake their way to Rank 4 or 5, and set the account up with enough gold for all the expert cards in their deck. This is where the harm to Blizzard’s economy comes in.
Player bots do not benefit Blizzard in any way. You’re confusing two things:
a. Blizzard owned bots: used to prevent long delays in match making. This one isn’t a secret.
b. Player owned bots: used to farm rewards.
4. Blizzard has officially addressed the existence of bots, more than a few times:
We've recently banned several thousand Hearthstone accounts that were associated with the use of third-party programs that automate gameplay, otherwise known as “bots” or “botting.”
5. I won’t put up a link here but should you ever wish to verify your claims, google ‘Hearthranger’. It’s a bot with a community. Here’s a few messages I found on that board:
Why does it suddenly say this ? Server detected abuse use . It was working alright, but suddenly this happened
I've used this bot for years with no ban.
*
I use the scheduler for 8-12 hours a day. But have never run it every day for months on end and sometimes might not use it for a week.
I've run it pretty hard recently (16-20 hours a day for a few weeks) to grind up mercs to max on 1-1 heroic mission as well.
*
If you do get banned this has worked to get my Ig unbanned and a tumblr for botting/spamming or whatever. Wait like at least a few weeks after ur ban hit up support and play like SUPER DUMB like you don't even understand you're banned you think it's a glitch and then be all like "I haven't been on this account for like 6 months" "yes I play against bots?". if it works get a vpn/proxy to use for a little bit on your next few relogs.
*
banned as well, oh well, I did bot 24/7 for months without breaks. I'm surprised they banned my account even though I have bought battle passes on it. I'm going to chargeback and try to get a refund for my battlepasses.
20 hours a day… Trying to get their battle pass refunded… Makes for good reading anyway. Anyway, the list goes on. So they do exist, let’s put the claim that only Blizzard bots exist to rest. The bot is not free by the way, you actually have to pay for it and people do. So the incentive is there.
5. Here’s a screenshot I found of the bot UI:
So, do your due diligence, research, otherwise you’ll end up spreading misinformation.
1. They *can* achieve up to plat, I’ve seen it myself.
And here is the part everyone seems to be completely glossing over when it comes to BlizzBots - if they OWN and CONTROL these bots, they can literally set them into the queue at whatever rank they want to.
Your rank setting is literally just a line of code in your account - if Blizz owns and operates these bots, they can set that line of code to whatever they want it to be, Platinum, Legend... whatever. I find it odd that folks can't seem to grasp that in their, "I never see bots at <insert rank>, so they obviously don't exist.", arguments.
They are definitely using blizzard bots. I've seen them in standard bronze to gold rank. Usually name is something like AdjectiveAnimal with default card back and using this season standard deck builder deck. Great for achievement hunting since they don't concede matches and play dumb.
Lets think logically. No such bot with crappy deck and no brain can achieve gold or plat. Even if they play 10 years. So we face only Blizzard bots, nothing less.
What he means is that players (not Blizzard) are not using bots. No one is disputing that Blizzard uses bots. The user I’m quoting here claims that users (not Blizzard) do not use bots as he lists two reasons to support this:
a) it’s not profitable enough to warrant the use of bots (profit made selling bots doesn’t justify using them). b) the a.i. running those bots would be too stupid to reach platinum (or gold rank). Or: the decks or a.i. players would systematically lose against human players.
This is what I am disputing and which I think (read: convinced) is untrue. I doubt there’s reliable data about how much profit one can make running bots. This means any conclusion drawn about is pure speculation. If you prefer, it’s not grounded in reality.
As for user bots (not Blizzard) reaching platinum. It does happen. It’s happened to me but I doubt I’m the only one judging from numerous reports from other players.
An even shaman bot in wild can reach legend. You still realise that it’s a bot, but the deck is so good that you can have an over 50% wr while making plays like coin hero power in an even deck…
It seems revenue is going down (as of 2018 anyway) but the player base isn’t declining at an alarming rate. I did find this which was interesting:
While 2018 closed with $165 million in revenue for HS on mobile alone, SensorTower predicts total revenue of just $33 million for the first half of 2022.
So, in a way, it is dying but it seems to be from lack of player who actually spend money on the game as opposed to lacking players. Hopefully this will mean the end and lead to Hearthstone 2.0 which reworks the game from the ground up.
I don't need to spend money on this game anymore because the amount of dust refund I get from them releasing broken cards that need nerfs. I have 23k dust available and another 30k if I hit mass disenchant. If they released balanced cards I wouldn't have this much dust at my disposal and would maybe have to spend real dollars. I used to buy season pass but I don't for this reason.

Exactly this - we build our decks with the mind and intent of playing against a human player, using human thoughts and tactics.
The x3U DK bot deck is just pure insane aggro that literally no human-made deck is built to reliably counter - you either draw into whatever build your deck is made for on time, or have a global wipe option (which most decks don't), or you get bull rushed by this deck...
And I love the shamers who claim it's some sort of egregious sin to lose to those decks... like HS isn't a RNG-fueled luck fest 75% of the time anyway that a pure aggro deck is built to overcome that limitation simply on numbers alone...
Also, playing the SAME damn BlizzBot, every 2 or 3 games in Casual where I'm trying to play-test a deck design, wherein his first turn is ALWAYS:
Coin, Body Bagger, Skeletal Sidekick (3/3 and 1/2 on board in turn 1), followed by Battlefield Necromancer turn 2, both copies of Plagued Grain turn 3 so he has infinite (basically) taunts... it's just stupidly boring.
The problem is, if you just auto-concede to these shit bot decks, you're stuck with your MMR tanked and you can't fight anyone BUT these shit bot decks... I would literally rather wait in the queue for 20 minutes until the MMR scan widens far enough to face a real human than facing these pointless, fucktarded bot decks all day long.

I mostly play wild every month and I don't think I've battled a bot at all in that queue.
Playing standard to complete the odd daily starting from bronze it's like 90% bots. maybe even more. internal mmr matters

You know the game is dying when the developer needs to add bots themselves...
Played the game a week after the new expansion and got bored very quick..
I was under the same impression (the game dying), so again, research. While there was a drop in 2020 it’s back up in 2023.
