They shouldn't be this efficient at the beginning of a rotation. its literally just because DK lost literally nothing which forces everyone to play control to deal with its aggro variant, which shuts out every other deck because DK plays control too to deal with other control decks
I told my friends before the expansion that DK would dominate because they were already near the top tier and didn’t lose a single card. And now on the ladder - last 10 games? 8 of them DK.
The class was designed by a toddler:
Ooh, let’s give them a card LIKE Twisting Nether, except it also gives them a 5/5 body AND adds to their corpses. We also need a 2-mana destroy any minion, a 3-mana destroy the biggest minion, a 5-mana 5/5 that does 10 damage, a 3-mana 2/2 that draws 2 cards… and why not a 7-mana spell that freezes their board, does 5 damage… AND drops a 5/5 body. Why not? Even a simple 2-mana 3-damage spell has to ALSO discover a card. And then they added the OP location to all of it. All the high legend games (at least those where they want to win and aren’t just messing with ideas) are DK vs DK. It’s Death Knight-Stone now, not Hearthstone. There is no single nerf that will fix this because every card is an example of power creep.
Congrats Blizz. Everybody is playing your new class now. Everybody else can GTFO it appears.
Honestly, the game is doomed to being stale by design, it’s time to pull the plug. I chatted with an opponent and asked him where he got his deck: « Top deck on HS Replay ». That settled it. Expansion after expansion, the best part is the first 24 hours when the meta hasn’t settled yet, then it remains the same. People just check on HS Replay and then copy/paste whatever deck has the highest win rate until the next expansion where it’s back to HS Replay to see what’s at the top. Then there’s no point in trying to experiment past a certain rank, you’ll just get crushed.
They shouldn’t even bother printing so many cards. Just have two deck compulsory deck types for each class (or one) and leave it at that. It’s not like the player base who try something non-meta stand a chance anyway. I don’t know what the future of card games is, but it’s not this format. You either stick to the meta to a T or lose most of your games. Nerfing cards makes no difference, it just changes the meta but it’s essentially always the same thing over and over again. There needs to be some kind of fundamental change to card games like this one. Maybe being forced to have bigger decks would force players to adapt to various contexts. Maybe more cards on hand too. As it is, it’s always the same. New classes won’t ever solve anything either. The issue is a fundamental one.
Maybe I’m naive but if you had decks with 100 cards, there would be some much variety on hand that going OTK would be a lot harder and players would need to constantly adapt to a variety of situations as opposed to stick to the same game plan. Players would go back and forth trying to get the opponent to zero.
TLDR: the issue isn’t with the decks or the cards, it’s the format that’s flawed. Even if they nerfed DK, people would just swarm whatever is the « top deck on hs replay » to quote my dear opponent. There’s no hope until they find a way to encourage variety.
This game was on it's last legs when DH was introduced. The absolute incompetent shitshow that was DH told us all the the current version of blizzard is incompetent. I can't believe anyone still tries to play this mess.
Of course this is happening. Blizzard should have nerfed DK preemptively, as they did lose no cards at all and were already good. Paladin also is just too consistent and need tuning. And I think they, again, gave demon hunter too much draw, how are you supposed to beat an aggro deck that has a full hand the entire game?
There are plenty of incredible deck concepts out there (many I have tried myself), so it's definitely not a case of "one archetype is all that works on ladder".
If you need some deck ideas, hit me up. I have a couple on here that are currently doing extremely well.
How many archetypes reach legend? I mean unique archetypes for each class?
Ive experienced two in Warlock, one in Paladin, one in Rogue, two in Mages, two in DK, two in warrior, two in shaman, never meet any DH, two priests, one Druid.

Well you'd probably have to go somewhere like HSReplay or VisciousSyndicate for the details on that in fairness as I couldn't tell you off the top of my head.
The thing is, we hear this every year, every expansion. I don't doubt your concerns are valid but I think it's worth considering thrm in context.
The story of Hearthstone is one of classes rising to the top, becoming over-used, and then being targetted by the meta / superceded / nerfed.
It doesn't make your current situation more bearable but precedent should give you confidence that this is only temporary.
Go back through this forum and look for all the "this game is dead" threads and you'll see.
Hang in there.
This, I have been playing HS many years, and it is always the same story repeating as you say. Many players that complain about the meta for not being able to win with wacky decks, about netdeckers, etc. Their complains are valid too, but that is what meta is all about, the fault is not on the players for wanting to play good decks, its the dev team that did not deliver a good product that is balanced enough.
Dk is going to stay on top until someone discover a counter deck and/or Blizzard hits it with the nerf hammer. What I see is that the trend with this expansion is that old archetypes are really strong still. Imp Warlock, Blood DK, Frost DK, Unholy DK, Pure Paladin, Miracle Rogue, if they get nerfed the next tier is going to rise, Shadow Priest, Relic DH, Big Spell HUnter and Mage. It is not going to end until they hit all of those or they rotate out.
It is difficult to certainly hit the nail in the head to create a diverse meta, but we have just to wait and see. I have left HS many times when I do not enjoy the meta, and come back the next expansion, at the end of the day it is just a game and there are plenty of other things to do besides having a bad time in a game you do not enjoy. There were always be people that enjoy a meta and others who don't, so enjoyment is really subjective and I do not think that is healthy to blame other players for simply using the tools available to win and enjoy the game. Instead that frustration should be directed at developers for not delivering a product up for your standards.
Nearly every deck is a ladder rushing deck or a combo control "you can't play the game if you're not a ladder rushing deck" deck
Is this really what we have to play against the next few months....
No choice. New exp every 4 mths. you don't have much time to enjoy the deck
How does a combo control deck that is defeated by aggro work?
From what I can see, mid range gets pushed out because aggro and control are too efficient.

People were worried about DK not losing anything and go figure over half my games are still against DK. It sucks cause this expansion looked like fun.

Idk, all my games are against paladin. Same deck, copy paste.
I'm playing an overheal priest with Sister Svalna + Love Everlasting for infinite value

I agree completely. Well said.

D5 should be renamed DK5 based on my morning streak

defeating a sandwich only makes it tastier
Hearthstone was never really a diverse game to begin with and the fact it's not a diverse one now all these years later says alot.
Hearthstone
Hunterstone
DeathKnightsOnlyStoneReaching legend with homebrew is easy. I do that since years in wild every month
