I usually have negative posts, because especially in the last year I had a feeling the game was slowly getting abandoned. Removal of open cups, major reduction in big tournaments, smaller teams and discontinuing the (failed) game modes all screamed sinking ship to me.
However, the expansion announcement came as a very pleasant surprise to me. Thematically, I feel this is one of the strongest that Hearthstone has ever been. Pushing all classes towards a big music festival has the goofiness and boldness that only old Hearthstone had, and the accompanying music is great too. They really seem to have put a lot of resources in fluff with this expansion, which I love. And the play on words such as "Power Chord" or "Arcanite Ripper" was something I really enjoyed. Soloist, Finale fit right in and are very interesting mechanics, while ETC comes back in big style, probably being one of the meta definers, at the very least for control decks.
I really enjoyed everything revealed so far and I have high hopes that despite the huge downfall in competitive we will have rich thematic fun. Good job to the team so far.
The expansion theme seems more like what they have been doing with themes for Battlegrounds since the season pass was established. It makes Battlegrounds more fun, but I still like the parallel of World of Warcraft areas for each expansion for Hearthstone better.
I agree. I haven't been this excited in a while. I just hope the meta pans out to have some variety. Renathal meta was too slow, feels like every other meta recently has been too fast. I want some of my games to go long and others to go fast and I want decks that aren't super value piles that never gas out or pop off decks that just straight kill you. Spice of life. I hope enough power rotates out for things to calm down.
I think with the death of esports comes fewer players caring and trying too hard to have fun. It's something I've noticed with Heroes of the Storm and TF2. People do what they want and don't police each other's play, and it's great. And by the way, those ships haven't sunk and don't show a lot of signs of it. Maybe HotS'll dwindle eventually, it's not as beloved, but TF2 has beat the odds for a stupid amount of time and I think hearthstone has those kinds of numbers. Maybe no esports means none of us grind an unhealthy amount or obsess over meta and just have a happier healthier relationship with our card game.
I really like the theme for this expansion, to an extend where it scares me that I will be disappointed, even thou I always manage to have fun with one of the modes.
I remember Iksar comparing sunken city to ungoro and I kind of get the same vibe here (although TGT was more similar in flavor). Colorful, joyful and focused on spectacular board plays. I think the team stepped their game up with the last 3 expansions, so I have rather high hopes :)
Many cards still need to be revealed of course and I'm a bit worried that the new weapon tutoring allows some obnoxious face fest
I feel the exact opposite from OP. I think the theme is too silly (even for Hearthstone), the humor is 100% pop culture references (i.e., the lowest of low-hanging fruit), and the cards themselves are going to be extremely annoying. I know a lot of people enjoy this kind of thing, and more power to them, but it's not for me in any way.

I also would appreciate more WoW related content, there is still lots of areas. And they need to slow down on expensions! 135 cards every 3 months is too much IMO not just that they will run out of good ideas for cards (dou obviously) and themes.
Besides I have to say the Deathknight expansion has been surprisingly well designed and the class is also very well not too overpowered. thumbs up

I personally think that One Night in Karazhan was way sillier. Also, this set is very reminiscent of The Grand Tournament or Rastakhan’s Rumble, except they’re battling over music like a battle of the bands. Harness the power of Rock and Roll and make some eyes bleed out of their skulls sounds awesome and totally metal!
Also, come on…. There’s a ton of Annoy-o-bots in this set… so obviously it’s going to get…. annoying! Lol
I personally love this set! The only thing that concerns me is the massive amounts of mana cheating running amok everywhere amongst most classes.

I agree -- that bothers me far more than the theme.
It’s very hard to compete playing off-meta decks because the top decks are all based on exploits of some kind. Oh look, a deck with 2x Thaddius on turn 4, or a turn 6 OTK. I feel like there might be more of the same, even with the “reset” of a new year in Standard. So the decks using the win-fast exploits will fight it out, and all other strategies will have to be played in casual… and even most casual games are against net-decks with the exploits.

The theme is super cool. Very creative, it rocks! :P

But I really like the new set’s theme.
