Has this been announced somewhere? I’ve seen a few threads popping up about bots but I’ve just started playing again and more than 50% of my games are against bot? Has some sort of software been discovered to circumvent detection or something? It’s never remotely close to being as bad for bots. I’d get one every week or so but now it’s more than half.
People have always discussed bots and why the reports never work. But nobody considered they are endorsee, if not even coded by Blizzard to artificially pump the player base or the win rate of players who don't do very well. In pokemon unite, for example, me and my team played very rarely so we would lose a majority of pur games. To keep us playing, we noticed a lot of games against bots. Maybe hearthstone has a similar system. I am not saying all bots serve this role, but it would make sense if some of them did.
Which format (because those in Wild are pretty annoying, playing Pirate Rogue / Even Warrior / Secret Mage)? That aside, there have been a few discussions about it. Is it due to the Chinese servers being yanked away, so they are Chinese bots that farm gold and then spend that gold on Arena bot drafts (which is a separate topic). Or what other purpose are they doing what they do, as it's not like you can transfer portraits from account to account or anything.
The bit I'm not able to understand is how Blizzard doesn't have a grip on them yet. Their nonsense names, the report function in game, their predictable deck building, one of 3 card backs, etc. They can't be that hard to identify and permanently ban, as they aren't like accounts that were hacked (i.e. the nonsense names). Which all leaves me to believe they are tacitly sanction by Blizzard, otherwise it'd be a solved issue.
Standard. One thing I’ve noticed is that the username in-game is different when I attempt to report for botting post-game, it changes. Never seen that before. It only happens with bots.
edit: I was wrong. The username doesn’t changes… the bots simply don’t appear as my latest opponent! I can’t report them. How weird!
I always wonder how people are so sure that they are playing against bots.. I play a lot of hearthstone and there were times, although rarely, i was considering whether my opponent was a bot, but i was never sure. How do people actually tell ? Sometimes i feel like people heard a streamer say something about bots and they are suddenly convinced that they are playing bots all the time. Maybe they are - i would just like to know how to be sure..

Certain play patterns. Same delay between commands, replies to your first emote only with greetings, hovers over hero power and clicks it even when nothing happens, makes nonsensical trades, no arrows on attacks, doesn't concede when they are in topdeck mode in late game. Not all at the same time, but there are various little things you can pick up on if you have a keen eye...

By those criteria i might be mistaken for a bot in some games xD

All the bots I've played against in the last 24 hours did the same thing: play everything as fast as possible, even discovers are done immediately without looking at the options, they make plays like playing primordial wave on an empty board just to spend all their mana, I don't see a red border when they hover over cards, heropowers or portraits (for me this is the most obvious hint), all have russian names and as zizka said they don't appear in the latest opponents, so you can't even report them.
I guess it's because of the ladder reset that I meet more bots than real players at the moment, but it's weird how infested lower ranks are right now

Okay that actually does sound very bot-like. But i wonder how they manage to not show up in the recent opponents. Maybe some special characters in their name or maybe they disconnect right before the game ends ?
If they don’t appear in the “latest opponent”, they’re a bot. That’s it, no detective work required although they always use the same patterns. If they don’t appear to be reported, is Blizzard aware of the bots? Why else wouldn’t they appear as opponents like everyone else? Have they been tagged in some way? Why prevent users from reporting the bots? I don’t get it.

Not if you have a good sense of observation or pattern recognition. A lot of people don't, and a lot of people blame everything on bots, even if there are no bots. But if you're smart you can detect mechanical actions.
So I figured some of you might think I’m making this up or exaggerating but, those are my last five games. All Death knight bots. I don’t know if I’ll get 10 bots in a row.
Ok, now I am confused. I am not saying there arent any bots, as high mmr Player I cant even comment on this... but ppl said "bots dont Show up in recent opponents", now you show us a list of recent opponents claiming they are bots.

Close to half my games were bots today while I cruised up to diamond. Several had the name somethingsquid.

Imagine being banned for playing like a bot :p

Came back one week ago after 3 months off, 90% of games against Bots. Is HS that dead.. feel like quitting again.
I haven't noticed any bots in standard for a while now. You should be fine once you bump your MMR back up.
Strangely, didn’t meet a single boy this morning (as opposed to 75% beforehand). Could be because I was gone for a while.
Update:
Some things I’ve noticed:
Bots are always death knight
Usernames are always a bunch of random letters, like sdv or sksndnej
Always the same deck: obliterate, body bagger, Saurfang, gnome muncher x2, chillfallen baron x2, thassarian, heart strike, remorseless winter x2, Death strike, Rime sculptor
never concedes even when defeat is certain
It’s so easy to identify.
Exact same length of time before acting
At Gold, it’s about 75% of the matches.
What a joke... as if the amount of "dummy players" that we have to face was not enough we still have to deal with bots.
these are dark times for this beloved game.
So I figured some of you might think I’m making this up or exaggerating but, those are my last five games. All Death knight bots. I don’t know if I’ll get 10 bots in a row.
I’ve now reached 12 wins in a row.
