So, are all the bots in Classic Mode a recent thing or just something I wasn't aware of until today? Since I've started counting I'm up to over a dozen matches against players with just a string of random letters in their names, nearly identical decks, and identical bad plays. It's kind of sad to see Hearthstone get overrun like this but on the plus side they are super easy to farm I guess. I should be at Legend in no time if they are this bad at all the ranks.
I think it's been like that for the past few months or so, maybe a bit longer? But yeah, Classic is fully infested with awful Bots farming portraits.
As soon as my rank multiplier was down to normal (x1) I got them nearly nonstop up until I hit Legend. Got Legend in Standard in Wild quite a few times, but Classic was always too freaking boring to grind it out.
So yeah I was kinda glad when I noticed that I can get Legend THAT easily. Of course it means absolutely nothing (one could say since the ladder rework reaching Legend in any mode got kinda easy. :P), but yeah whatever, I'm trying to get my first and only triple Legend this month now. :D
Don't think Blizz interested in banning bots, especially in less populated formats, like Classic. Otherwise the queu time would get too long! Maybe some of them are even Blizz creations, to "solve" long queu problem =)
I swore that during the holiday break between the last week of Dec and the first week of Jan, there were nothing but zoolock bots on the ladder. I created an anti-zoo warrior that was heavy on 2-damage removal and even ran Millhouse Manastorm because zoo's only spells are soulfire and mortal coil.
I think after I got to legend in Jan with the 11-star bonus (around rank 700) I was only seeing Control Warriors, so I switched to a greedy Paladin deck that can deal with all warrior's threats and still have cards and health left over. My theory was that blizzard has like one person who actions all the "botting" in-game reports and that person was on holiday until the 2nd week of Jan. But of course that's just speculation.
This month, I had the 10-star bonus, and until I got to diamond 5 there were very few bots, a good mix of other players' decks too. Druids and Rogues (which are harder for the Warrior). From diamond 5 to legend it was nothing but bots - all weird ones too (not all zoolock), with basic cards, mostly 1-and-2 drops and stormwind champions. I've heard that when your star bonus runs out (for 10-stars that's diamond 5) you start seeing the other players who are also at diamond 5 instead of players who match your MMR, so I'm guessing that's why it changed so suddenly. Since I got to legend it's back to being mixed, although there are still some zoobots there this month.
If you want a good, multi-purpose deck to get to legend in classic, I've been using this one. It can beat most any zoolock unless you draw all your top-end cards and whiff on fiery war axe. It's greedy enough to stand a chance against the other warriors. If you tech too hard against zoo you will lose all the mirrors. And the other matchups are not unwinnable (although Rogue can almost always draw through their deck before you can pressure them enough or armour out of range of leeroy/cold blood/shadowstep stuff).

I used that exact Warrior decklist this past month to get the last 50 wins I needed for the Warrior 500 wins portrait (one of the last few characters I needed that on, and there are no good options for Warrior in either Standard or Wild ATM). And once you get clear of the very bottom tiers, there's almost NOTHING but bots until mid-Diamond. It's so prevalent I'm convinced they are Blizzard bots and not outside factors (Zeddy had a video on this yesterday on this very topic).
Easy to identify: They all used either the Death Knight or Machine Dreams (the one from logging in on a PC) card backs, always played neutral minions, terrible turn order and processing (coining nothing on turn one, etc.), and repeatable mouse movements (start of the game hover over their face a moment, then HP, then middle card, and then play a card). With that Warrior deck, once you know what match you are into, you literally can't lose. Just keep control of the board.
It would be really cool if they replaced classic with a Time Hop mode that changed every few months to allow you to relive the days of certain metas. (I loved WoG and Ungoro metas so much!) Classic got stale really fast.
Just curious. Are there real bots aka third party tools? Maybe bots people pay for? Or do they just script? Most bots feel like they are just using mediocre scripts.

Agreed! Name it "Toki's Time Tinker'd Mode" or something. Each month (season) have what you are suggesting, or a more randomized Standard set and 2 other previous metas (so a grab-bag of three different sets, like Standard / G&G / Boomsday). There'd be a pretty random spike in class power levels each month, but that dynamic meta would be pretty neat!

I don't know where bots come from but they are pretty good. At least those that play zoolock in classic mode. They make favorable trades, correctly identify and deal with dangerous minions (Baron Geddon for example, they will get rid of him immediately), empty their hands before playing discard cards, keep burn in hand if they don't have lethal etc. Sometimes they mess up like buffing minion after it attacks or position wrongly Dire Wolf, but all in all it's quite impressive.
Update: I went from literal scratch, never played a game of Classic, to Legend Rank 75 in a little over 24 hours and 93 games with a record of 85 wins and 8 losses. I'd like to thank the following players for their contributions:
* Njuqkjk
* Mmgyklo
* Ngtrrlcdk
and SO many more bots with names consisting of random letters. Thank you all!

I still don't get why an alternative time format hasn't been made! If you think about how few wild cards are actually playable, having a rotating nostalgia or mash-up format could actually make people use their old cards/dust. They could even do some kind of set rental to make that gold worth something. And if the meta sucks, No nerfs needed, just come back next month :)

Just currious what deck you are using to grind in classic ?

In death, I exact my revenge!
Double Post.
Control Warrior. Currently at a 39 game win streak and going strong.
Control Warrior is the best counter to these Zoobots, but I also had success from Plat to Legend with Combo Druid (42-2).
Hey. =)
easy miracle rogue doing great for me
