The card is pretty useless right now. Unless you have it in hand since the early turns the effect at turn 10 is mediocre. It is not a finisher anymore, it is not a defense anymore (not enough healing or removal), it is sometimes a threat but more often than not you have something better to play at 10 mana. I am slowly removing it from all my decks.
I am not complaining about the nerf. It was busted. But this nerf was an overkill. They should have at least increased the initial damage to 10 or given it taunt or something useful.
Posts like these make me happy, but Sire Denathrius is still being played in 31% of decks in Diamond to Legend after the nerf. It's much weaker, but definitely not unplayable, so to call the nerf overkill doesn't seem right to me.
Losing to Sire Denathrius makes me not want to play this game anymore. The Sire Denathrius nerf makes me want to play this game again. Losing to Deathrattle Rogue makes me not want to play this game anymore. The Prince Renathal nerf makes me not want to play this game anymore.
I think the nerf was heavy, certainly, but it is definitely still viable and usable in the right deck. It is still a definite include in Druid ramp decks, etc. And it made it so the card doesn't outright win games for the most part which meant it was an autoinclude in every deck. In that regard, I think its a job well done really.
As for when you draw the card, if Denathrius was in the bottom 10 cards or so of your deck, he was never much use even before the nerf. That hasn't really changed - so you just need to use cards which can fetch him or reorder your deck appropriately, etc.
Kind of reflects the team’s biggest issues with balancing neutrals over the last few years. Remember the way cards like Kazakusan, Drek’Thar and Mr. Smite were dominating the meta before their nerfs? It’s hard to believe that they’re still in standard with the way they’ve completely disappeared. I’m not sure if releasing a busted legendary that people abuse for a couple months before nerfing it to the ground to make way for a new hyped up legendary is good design philosophy, but that seems to be way the status quo given recent history
Oh, another much more balanced change? Make the battlecry damage only minions. Too much figuring out from the dev team I guess
That would've been the only logical nerf imo. Don't know why it can hit face to begin with. The card has control written all over it.
A very expensive way to "win the board" but in reality the card not going face will hurt druid a lot. But also it will hurt control decks that relay on board generation that still use this card. Time will tell what going down first in the next balance patch that is coming, Druid or Denathrius battlecry.

The thing is that right now you don't win anything. Not enough damage to clear the board, which a 10 mana card should be able to do, and not enough damage to kill your opponent

It depends on whether they want to use this 10-mana cost card as board clear/healing or a win condition or everything (as of right now). That will determine their nerf decision.
its still played in many decks for one simple reason, people don't build their own decks, as soon as new lists are available online, he will disapear from 90% of decks, having played with it after nerf, can say with confidence that he is now useless, not a single time was he the best play in any of the games I played, a bit harder to replace in standard I guess, Alextrasza shits all over him in wild.

I have played him since the nerf and more than a few times have used him for lethal. Why is that not the best play in that situation?

Good riddance!

It was a free card that completely dominated the meta for a good while. It’s fine for it to be weak now. Now if they would finally just nerf bran…
denatrius wasnt bringing in money

It still puts in work; just balanced. Astalor replaced it. 15-20 damage and if buffed by Lore 20/20 Denarius is still very viable.

It is not useless, the card can still be played in a few decks. People just get used to how busted it was.
They want the card to be a "finisher", so the ability to hit face goes unchanged. Why? Seems like an issue with design philosophy.
Developers' inability to balance is one thing; players choosing to abuse it is another.
