Does reporting players. Even do anything in this game since they launched the feature? Serious question cause I’m wondering if they actually take any kind of action against these players that are reported for abuse of chat when you accept a friends request and they talk crap.
Yesterday I was playing against someone who absolutely demolished me. Sure, it sucked to lose, but I was having a lot of fun watching them play their deck. I sent a quick request w/ the specific intention to tell them exactly that as a compliment. We were both playing Mage & seemed to have the same sets of strategy but w/ different cards. I've spent so much time tinkering & evolving my deck that I truly found it interesting to see my own strategy played differently.
No wonder I haven't heard back from them (I think anyway) if people regularly use it to annoy others.
the chat is indeed become a place to flame and call out because people lost a game... I also send friendrequests, for requesting their deckcode, or to compliment them, and 90% of the time but it isnt accepted... I hope people will accept friends much easier now the report function is active...

Years ago I regularily used add friend to compliment other players on their plays, but lately all friend requests for recent opponents get denied and last time I accepted one I was flamed for defeating the opponent, so I also denied all following requests.
I don't think Blizzard will act at all for pure toxicity unless banned words are used. Harrassement is against the rules, but flaming without specific words is probably not enough for Blizzard to act upon (and potentially banning someone who spends money on the game). I have no experience with Hearthstone customer support though.
The report function does indeed work. However, I believe it takes into account the number of times a player is reported (so multiple offenders get looked at sooner). If someone has a bad day and abuses the chat as a one-off, then they probably get given more of a pass. That said, they probably also assess it based on the severity of the chat messages, one would imagine.
FYI - I have zero knowledge of how the report system specifically works (in terms of code and management). This is based purely off expected behaviour and what I have been told by people who have received chat-suspensions for flaming, etc. (which does happen - though it's usually for a period of time, rather than permanent bannage, etc)
Honest question, has anyone ever accepted a friend request after a match and not experienced some form of hate?
Honest answer. Yes. He was impressed with my deck and hadnt seen it before. I gave him the code and said I could spectate while he played to give him some pointers. I became his Hearthstone "coach" for about 6 months after that. Good buddy now.
Also honest answer: This is by far not the "common occurence" of course. There's been plenty of Flamestrikes, if you'll excuse the pun XD

Id accept more of them if they weren't snipe insults, if you are going to get salty don't just call me a slur and defriend, banter for a minute or two lol.
I accept any friend request myself, but pretty much go in it knowing the person is going to flame me due to them getting beat or calling the deck I’m playing toxic. Even though they themselves are playing a deck you could call toxic I guess.
My thought is, it’s a game someone has to loose. We all can’t be winners and just have fun playing it. But to friend someone jus to call them some racial slurs and just cuss me out then defriend me after your quick 2 txts is very childish and just helps make the community so bad from what it was 4-5 years ago. When I would get a friend request and we could talk about how well we both played and even play against each other some and such.
It's quite sad, I've tried to send friend requests to chat about a fun game or ask about decks, but nobody accepts. I do understand why - the last three friend requests I accepted were hate vomits - one of them told me in no uncertain terms that all the children in my family should die (a big priest player who perished to my Mass polymorph). I've reported the player, but he keeps logging on daily anyway. It feels like the Report function is there just for show.

Why are you still friends with him if he sent you that? Why not just remove him and move on?
I mean, unsurprising that there's always a percentage of people who just seem to think this is fun. But it's sad that it's so bad it's more normal to have requests be harassment than anything else.
Also just a big ball of suck about Blizzard response. Getting really fed up with the lack of support options on this game w/ Blizzard. it's not like this is a totally free game. Most of us are paying in some way for this over time.
Best thing you can do is keep reporting these losers. I've personally probably reported 10-12 people for friending and then flaming me. (The most recent suggesting that I kill myself for the good of the human race!) If Scorpyon is right that it's based on number of reports and the severity of behavior (and I'd bet he is), the more frequently you report these guys, the more likely it is that they will (eventually) learn their lesson.
I couldn't care less about flaming. If you crack down on it all you'll get is more manipulative two-faced liars who are simply afraid to speak their mind. So just let people show their true colours and then avoid them. If you can't handle one single bad interaction with a person then just turn your computer off and stay inside forever.
Some of us actually realise that whatever the devs put in place to curb flaming it will be unfair, biased, and just all-round poorly implemented. So stop begging for it or you will force them to do something really stupid and desperate just to appease you. In Overwatch 2 they simply removed global menu chat altogether. Really cool and really solved the core problem...
Huh? That makes no sense. The only reason these guys try to friend you is to flame you. If they know that doing so could get them banned, they'll sulk away after the game and never bother you again. The entire purpose of the report function is to prevent a) inappropriate/ obscene player names; and b) abusive chat. All I'm saying is that people should take advantage of this capability.
It's not like Facebook/ Twitter/ etc. where speech is being monitored and censored.

I didn't even realize that was a thing.

I'm not, but I see his status through Bnet launcher contacts ;).
This is all just gross.

Since they've implemented this feature I'am adding everybody, albeit salty kids adding me to waste my time became noticeably less nowadays.
Once they drop their prepared Speech and quickly remove me, I'am reporting.
Not that I expect serious consequences on their end, most likely they're getting blocked from using Chat for a couple months.
Activi$ion won't ban anyone for Flaming since they bring potential money. That's just the sad reality...
