I think its to do with infuse. Every time it infuses it's technically a new card, so you don't steal it. Someone else posted about it a couple of days ago. Similar to corrupt I suppose.

that would be weird though. Even when it infuses, it's still the same card. So the 1 hard counter that Priest has against Deniathrus won't work due to infuse...

Hmm, the cards transform when they reach an infuse break point. Do you have a replay and could check the levels?
It might be possible that the steal mechanic is spaghetti coded to reference the specific instance of the card.
It's probably the infuse as people said, technically it is the same card after its first infuse (same art and name) but the text is different. I was wanting to craft that priest card but this has made me think twice. I reckon this should be fixed bc even tho you can argue it's how it works, but it just feels very off to release that legendary with all the infuse cards that counter the effect..

I play on phone, so no replay. I do have a screenshot of the minions I played though. But you cannot post screenshot by phone, so I will do it from a pc later.
It's because of the Endless Infuse on Denathrius. I believe Harvester looks at the card ID directly rather than the name and when Denathrius infuses that ID changes. For example, copying a Denathrius with 13 Infuse won't steal the one with 21 damage a couple turns later from your opponent's hand. This has been a bug since theorycrafting, hopefully they get to fixing it. However, I'm not entirely sure if playing a Denathrius with the same damage as your opponent works if you infuse it yourself.

Yeah, would be interesting to see the levels. The first version was from your opponents deck, so should have started from zero and then gained from your minions. The stolen version was from your opponents hand? deck? (then they shouldn't have drawn it?) and should have had the levels from their infuses or zero if from their deck. The played version should have had the normal levels from hand.

It might only be the case with Denathrius and the infinite infuses that will also procc in your hand. With the other cards it's only binary but I don't know. Maybe that is broken as well.

Sire Denathrius had a purple glow, just like my Brann Bronzebeard in my hand. As I played Sire Denathrius on the same turn as I stole it, the opponent could not have further infused the card.
All in all I can say this is a confirmed bug.
As I had 20 mana, I could easily do that all in the same turn.
Even if it is something to do with infuse, I still reckon its a bug. The stolen card gets the animation around it, then you get nothing when it's played.
Can reconfirm, it has just happened to me. The strange thing is that the card even glows like confirming it was copied from the oponent. But once you played it, nothing happens.
I don't know if there is a breakpoint, but in my case i copied the uninfused sire and each one infused it, so it might have changed values there. But it still should be tracked as the copied anyway and steal his one, so it's confirmed as a bug I guess

This exact thing has happened to me as well. I also think it's like what others on this post have said - that with Denathrius, it won't steal it if your opponent's Denathrius has infused further. I don't think it's a bug, but I also think it's silly that Harvester won't steal it anyway. I think it should be changed so that it will steal an infused Denathrius regardless of how much it has been infused.

if this is the case, they need to change. It definitely shouldn't work that way. Hopefully they can actually fix the interaction with infused cards.

I got the card in a pack, and close to having the cards to run a thief/shadow priest so will test it out.
This interaction has me apprehensive about crafting any cards for the archetype though. I hope they manage to get them to work as intended.

I just crafted The Harvester of Envy.
In my first game against druid I played Identity Theft whereby I copied his Deniathrus and another card.
The druid played the card whereby all cards cost 1 mana, which was in my favor.
So next turn I played the Harvester of Envy, followed by Deniathrus + the other card I stole and neither of the opponents copies came to my hand.
The druid eventually won by playing Deniathrus. While I should have stolen his original.
So the Harvester of Envy is not working properly. Anyone else noticed this bug?
So this was a 1600 dust spent on a worthless card.
Removed.
It might have been a copy from Moonlit Guidance.

that was not the case, as I discovered it from his deck, not his hand.

I just had another game against Druid and can confirm this is not the case. As per my attached screenshot.
As you can see on the left hand side, my first action of this turn was Condemn (Rank 3) followed up by Identity Theft , which I stole his Sire Denathrius and Brann Bronzebeard . I then played The Harvester of Envy , followed up by Sire Denathrius .
Sire Denathrius had a purple glow, just like my Brann Bronzebeard in my hand.
