So I have been fed up with animations time for a really, really long time. Not just Hearthstone, every game. I just don't care, ever.
But in Hearthstone, ranked, it is just out of control, between the odd/even, coin casting time, quests animations, etc... That I decided to time something.
So, I am currently playing priest (yes hate me) in Wild. I started timing the following: my play time my opponent's play time+ all the animations not going on during my turn. the wasted time at the end of the game, waiting for the screen to go from Victory/Defeat to being able to queue again.
The result for today is: I played 48minutes 47 seconds I waited 3hours and 12 minutes, more or less. That's right, the animations + opponent enjoying roping 24/7, I barely played in 4 hours. The rest was pure waiting, no wonder I get pissed off playing, waiting non stop is very frustrating.
Any thoughts on trying to get animations MASSIVELY sped up?
I faced yesterday night a "coin" rogue in standard, who played so many cards in a turn that most of their animations were played AFTER the end of their turn. It was super boring, and I was unsure about whether or not my turn time would be reduced because of these animations so I played really fast instead of taking time to think about my next play...
Absolutely agree. I personally value animations a ton, i think they're part of the big values of hearthstone vs tradictional card games and all, but there should be a way to skip/speed up/maybe even disable them entirely (could be even considered accessibility options maybe; screen shake is a nice option, but i could see all animations defendable as that too). They waste tons of time and can become extremely tilting over time when you're already feeling frustrated and have to sit through the renathal animation again for the 8 million'th time, which is even making you unable to look at your hand on mobile.. it's all just too long and frustrating.
At the very least, i've thouhgt for a while that it also makes no sense for animations to count towards time limits, when some can be SO slow to literally regularly force the opponent to have to spend a part of their turn just waiting on animations to finish before even being able to play at all..
Most predatory games nowadays are created with a clear purpose of making you spend as much time as possible in game, without actually playing it.
The more you wait, the more likely you are to pay to "speed everything up". I won't be surprised when HS introduces a paid feature to control animation speed in game. Possibly even like a subscription.
Why do they do it? Simply because they know most people are too weak or too impulsive, and are gonna do anything to get rid of something that annoys them. This usually means paying up.
The stupidity lies with us human beings. Self control or a better global thinking (i.e. why play something predatory when i can do so much more with that money?!) is something very few people have or are willing to learn/evolve into.
How does this work in HS? Probably you'll be so annoyed eventually that you are gonna pay for packs in order to craft faster decks so as to waste much less time overall. Maybe. Or some custom bundle in the shop is gonna make you want to buy it because it provides the counter to the "roping deck types" you encounter. Things like these probably.
I agree. Speed them up. I mostly play Battlegrounds and it is just painful to deal with these animations while you're waiting to actually do something.
A feature where if both players opt-in the animations go faster would be nice. For the most part I like the slow animations, but if both players don't want them then I don't see why they would be necessary.
Sometimes YES like i get that new players has to have time to learn new cards but i feel like a mode where you can turn of the cards appearing on screen would help, the rest is fine imo(maybe quests could speed up a bit.)
Sadly animation time is also part of what limits OTK's. In wild there were people who used animation skip to "cheat" their infinite combos out on turn 6. It seems absurd that a game needs tedious esthetics to prevent you from exploiting its fundamental design flaws, but that's sadly how the game is made. There is a way to increase the framerate, but it only gives you that slightly snappier game, which you see streamers have.

I feel you.

Gotta agree. I would speed up animations and I also would set a limit of time in between moves during a player's turn.

Sadly, but you can only tapp the left side when the card is being played to speed it up

They could just nerf the otks honestly
Just lost a game because I didn't realize how long Sir Finley takes to change my hero power...
