So, Diablo Immortal is out, I spent a whole day playing with it (I was curious). I am level 45 now. What is it your feedback?
Here is mine:
At the start, the game feels very, very good, and for sure, much, much better than any mobile game ever tried with a very nice graphic and sound. It seems Diablo but simplified.
The problem:
The development system of the character is not very intuitive, but once you understand it you realize that once the story is ended, the game is only pay-to-win. The game also feel very expensive, because you need a lot of gems for the equipment
The game is extremely easy, it is nearly impossible to die. Therefore, it seems to do a trip to the countryside and not a battle against demons
At the certain point, the game hits a wall and become very, very boring because you are forced to do very repetitive dungeons in order to increase the level and to farm things
Conclusion:
In my opinion, Blizz missed an opportunity. We were scared to see a cash grab game, and it is. Unfortunately, as mobile game is well done, and it is a shame to see a project ruined for the Blizz's approach in microtransactions. It is an uninstallation for me. I hate this approach. It is anyway sad, because this game has a lot of potential ruined.
This could truly be the best phone game ever made. But it's another money-eating machine.
Thx for your feedback. I am playing throug it very slowly. I am ok to pay a few bucks for a game , but I hate games that constantly require investments to progress or compete. Shame this is one of those
I think that we can complete the plot without paying anything (I have not completed the plot, but I am in a good point). The issue arises later for the PVP and PVE because you will need a high equipment, and you will face people shopped. The main issue are the gems. Here you can shop everything and these are the main sources for the equipment, and we will see a lot of the difference between a free-to-play and a shopper.
I will explain better why this game is so money grab, even if initially it doesn't seem (because everything is hidden in a not so clear developing system for the character). Attached, you have my equipment. All your "base attributes" are increased by the "resonance". I have 180. Resonance can be increased by gems and if you upgrade the gems. If you are free-to-play it is very difficult to find gems and to upgrade them, instead, if you open your wallet it is practically immediate. Therefore, here we are, with the perfect money grab. You want to be competitive? You need to open a lot the wallet in order to increase the "resonance".
As I said, it is a shame, the game initially seems very cool, but once you realize that it is so money grab, it becomes so frustrating. At least, I think, and I hope that we can complete the "plot/campaign" without open it.
I haven't played yet, and hopefully won't after no lifing D2R last fall....lol. But to be fair, D2 is very easy also. So is D3. And any end game equipment is really unnecessary outside of PVP or to speed up endless runs/rifts for more end game equipment etc. If the mobile Immortal is easy enough to complete the main game without having to spend more than a few bucks or maybe none, id say its no big deal because you should be able to enjoy the whole game without P2W. For those that wish to go PVP and gain endless upgrades then they know the cost and good for Blizzard making another game people go overboard on.
Can't even play it. Due to the monetization/lootbox model as it is implemented it is banned in my country, cause it is too much like gambling.
(from what I understand the lootboxes hold a currency that can be traded for another currency that can be bought for money, making it possible to "gamble" lootboxes to get a real money pay out, which is gambling even if in this case that is not the intent)

I don't really understand Diablo in general. I played the free chapter of D3 last year, and I played Immortal the past two days. It's just running around farming stuff with admittedly cool looking but unltimately very repetitive combat. After killing the 1,000th monster, what's the draw? It seems like Diablo is all about leveling up gear, which is was fine in the 90's but seems a bit outdated now.
I don't really understand the genre. I'd rather play against people like in HS or HOTs, where the combat is interesting and unique every time.
I loved Diablo 3, I stood in line at midnight on launch for it and well… it was terrible. The real money auction house was a terrible idea where the endgame you were a low-level blizzard employee. Then reaper of souls changed everything. Rifts, seasons, equipment sets all improved it. Rise of the necromancer furthered this. I even played on switch, and it ran smoothly with great controls despite being a console that had the computing power of a potato. I have sunk hundreds of hours with each class across multiple platforms into Diablo 3 and it still feels like there is new stuff to do (season 26 now!). They had dialed in just how to make a Diablo game fresh for over a decade.
Immortal has forgotten every one of these lessons. There are so many currencies and crafting materials that are actually currencies it’s hard to figure out what is premium and what is earnable at first. Then there are rift gems… I though greater rift farming for ancient, primal and ethereal gear was really a good addition. However, in Diablo 3 you could earn gems to do greater rifts, in immortal, you must purchase them. They decided to hide one of the best features from arguably the best game from blizzard behind an infinite paywall. This is the core of immortal. It’s not really pay to win, it’s worse, it’s pay to play.
The game is also ok, it feels like a dumbed down easy Diablo 3. It offers a one-time purchase whenever you complete a dungeon. There are two levels of premium battle passes. There is a currency for better weapons that you can buy. There is a currency for better gems you can buy. Everywhere you go in the game, every dungeon you go in, everything you can unlock, it all has a microtransaction associated with it. Worst of all though, the auction house has returned with a premium unearnable currency for buying and selling items. After making Diablo 3 a great and enjoyable game, they locked away all of the enjoyable aspects and revived the thing that everyone hated the most at launch.
I fully recommend buying Diablo 3 and I am very worried about Diablo 4 after seeing the abandonment of everything they learned in Diablo 3 with Diablo Immortal.
In my server since today are also active the BGs for the PVP. BGs seems very fun to play, it reminds me the BGs in World of Warcraft (simplified). It is a shame that the ruined everything with the microtransactions. They are fun, but when you see a shopper, he will one-shoot you. There is no balance with these microtransactions. It could have been a good game with some forethought. It is sad.
I was serious when I asked before though. Forgot the microtransactions issue, forget the pay to play issues...what makes Diablo (any version) a fun game? I'm not being critical, I'm genuinely curious. From my very limited experience, it feels like button mashing, easy combat on repeat.

Interesting how opinions differ, because that is the literal opposite of my experience with D3.
I loved D2. I played that game for many years. This was before you could respec and optimal builds didn't spread like they do today, so there was a ton of replayability in creating different builds from scratch and seeing what works. Some people tried to grind for high levels, I never did that. I was really excited for D3, and I absolutely loved it at first. At the time I was even an editor for DiabloFans and the third most active contributor on that forum, that's how much I was into Diablo back then.
Yes the auction house was not well executed, but I really appreciated how hard it was to find gear. It really felt like a game I could spend countless hours in and still be excited when a rare item drops that can completely change how my character plays. That's very important to me, to feel like my time is working towards a meaningful goal. But then over time it rapidly went downhill for me.
First items became easier to obtain, which soon became so easy that you could get a full build in less than a day. You'd literally get 20 legendaries or more per run, ridiculous. After that you're really only watching numbers go higher, and that's really boring to me. Then there was the loot system that automatically gave gear for your class, removing the need for trading which was one of the most fun parts of D2. Seasons cemented the idea that you weren't actually supposed to dedicate yourself to a character, you weren't meant to have fun for long. You were actually supposed to play a bit, get bored, and then come back for the next season, rinse and repeat.
I've always hated rifts because of how boring it is to just mindlessly slaughter tons of enemies, there is very little incentive to push for higher difficulties so most of the time you're just melting easy mobs for gear, quantity over quality. This was not the case in early D3 where pushing for high difficulty dramatically increased legendary drop rates.
Lastly there were the damn sets, instead of mixing and matching abilities and individual legendaries in interesting and creative ways you now just equipped a 6 piece set along with the abilities it buffed, super boring.
I was eager to try Immortal and see if it had fixed any of this, but honestly I couldn't even get past the ultra zoomed in camera. I played the PC version because I hate phone action games, but it's really an awful port, barely better than running it in an emulator. On top of that I hear the monetization is atrocious. Guess I'll be waiting for D4.
I played it to lvl 32 yesterday and today i totally forgot i played it, since its dull, empty and soulless. Compared to Immortal, Diablo 2 character progression and skill system was overwhelming. And we all know how basic Diablo 2s system was.
edit: Some people did the math and came to the conclusion that you need way over 100 years of daily playing if you want to max all items as a F2P player.

Have you ever played WOW? It is the same. You have to farm the equipment. It is fun in the farm, and it is fun to do what you like. There are generally 2 separate worlds in these games. PVE and PVE. PVE is the fight against NPCs with other people (raids, dungeons and so on). PVP is the fight against other people (BG, arena and so on). So, if you like PVP as me, for example, where is the fun in playing BG or arena? Well, it is similar to play a game like Call of Duty, you fight, and you make the kills. Then you have to optimize your equipment, your skills and so on to be more effective.
Fun so far but I'm only a few levels in. Def the most polished mobile game I've ever played. Feels like a diablo game. Outside of the new player cheapo bundles I'm not buying anything.

And Diablo Immortal is already infested by Chinafarmer Bots.

Greetings, traveler.
Let's make Hunter great.
Horrible game. Just tap tap tap bull***
No mana, no difficulty. Zero gameplay, Just tap tap tap and $$$$$$$

If you believe that D2 and D3 are easy, try this game. It is another level. It is made for dumbs.

It's a great game buried under a mountain of feces.
Every time you take a step the game offers you a microtransaction. Killed a boss? Here, you earned the right to buy this loot!
It's just filthy.

Every Diablo game is a grind. Doing the same things over and over for a chance at better drops.
If you're just realizing that now with this game, you need to stop playing because it will never change.
