Hello people of hearthstone! I need some help deciding. You see, I haven't played hearthstone in quite some time, like almost 4 years at this point, but I'm REALLY tempted to come back. So here's the question: is it worth buying big preorder pack to play new expansion (I mainly play standard ranked), will I be able to build some decks with alterac valley mini set that I'm about to buy. And like overall, does the expansion look fun? What's the general consensus?
I think the expansion looks really fun, and the community generally seems excited as well! Rotation is always the best time to come back to Hearthstone.
If I were you, I would buy the smaller bundle, because IMO it's better value than the larger bundle. When the expansion launches, I would buy the tavern pass, which grants you an XP bonus, helping you progress on the reward track faster for more gold and packs. Buying the pass + the smaller bundle is also cheaper than buying the large bundle!
Since you have been away for four years, you might not have heard that duplicate protection now covers all rarities. That means that you will not open duplicate commons before you have opened all that expansion's commons, and the same for rares, epic and legendaries. This has made it significantly easier to get all rares and commons in a set, and that makes it possible to build several different kinds of decks faster than before. With the preorder + core set + alterac miniset, you should be able to build a couple of different fun decks.
If you have any questions about changes there's been to Hearthstone in the years you've been away, feel free to ask!
Wow, thank you for such a thorough answer! I think I will follow your advice and get a smaller pack, even though 2 golden legendaries, mage portrait, BG perks and 5 golden packs are very-very tempting :D. Would you recommend getting welcome back pack? It has a random legendary plus 30 standard packs. Once again, thanks so much for such a wonderful answer and all the help!
Yeah, the big bundle is tempting. and if you really want it, I won't discourage you from buying it - I just think the smaller bundle is the better value. I used to always buy the big bundle to get the hero portraits, but there are so many portraits now that it doesn't really matter anymore, and I would rather have the tavern pass. Buying both the big bundle and the tavern pass every expansion would be too expensive for me :) But go ahead, if you can afford it and feel like it!
I don't know what the price of the welcome back bunde is, but if its 30$ or less, it seems like good value, and I would probably buy it as a returning player. But don't open the packs before after the rotation and the new expansion goes live on Tuesday - that way, you're guaranteed to only get cards that are viable in standard for the next year.
It's always a value buy to get the expansion pre-orders considering it's 50 uds for 40 packs, so if you Wanna pre-order one of the bundles it's always worth it since for the base one you get 20 extra packs and 2 regular random legendaries for an extra 10 usd. Or if you really wanna do what most people who play the game alot do is pre-order both bundles, giving 4 random legendaries and 145 packs which still is good value compared to just buying that many packs by itself
Do I have this right? Sometime this April 2022, the only card sets in Standard ranked will be:
Forged in the Barrens with Wailing Caverns United in Stormwind with Deadmines Fractured in Alterac Valley with Onyxia's Lair Voyage to the Sunken City (releasing April 2022?)
And the best value money is to buy the smaller bundle + Tavern pass (where the reason to buy Tavern pass is to get better rewards from quests and grinding games?)
With regard to grinding games for XP and thus rewards, how many games (or wins) is considered the maximum to play each day?
