It's really impossible to make everyone happy - some people are quietly enjoying mercs, while some people feel personally violated that the game didn't meet their expectations.
Some people are also quietly enjoying this expansion, while others jump to point out everything that's wrong with it.
I'm not thrilled about every deck that seems to be populating ladder, but I am actually still having fun. I see a lot of people doing different things and especially some slower games.
I'd make a thread about all the things that I like about the game at present but it would get trolled or ignored for sure.
Why don't we try to think positively for a change and see a new perspective here?
I dunno how everyone can keep saying this expansion is so weak when literally the entire meta has changed and practically every class has at least one new viable deck.
But ok yeah weak expansion cuz they saw Trumps review videos or something. Good sheep.
There are currently 17 decks above 50% winrate, 4 of them are new. The tier one decks have changed maybe 3 cards. Quest warrior isn’t running any new cards. Priest and mage don’t have viable decks. Deathrattle demon hunter, which isn’t new, is barely viable. Don’t be so edgy, the data is showing Blizz overtuned the questlines and as a result, Alterac is weak. It’s not a weak expansion on its own, but when placed next to stormwind, the strategies and cards just don’t hold up. Blizz is going to have to do something about the power level of stormwind or next year will see three weak expansions.
What questlines besides Warrior, Rogue and maybe Warlock are even seeing play?
Also the Warlock questline is taking a huge hit at rotation, and the Warrior quest is taking a significant one too.
Other than the 3 meta relevant decks, what relevance is there? It’s also the multiple other extremely strong cards from stormwind, runes mithril rod and battleground battlemaster. There is widespread hand or global discounts that come down early on common cards. It’s like devs forgot how strong Thaurissian was. There’s also cards like battlegrounds that just flat out win games by doubling damage. Stormwind is definitely the strongest expansion, ashes of Outland DH was ridiculous, then it got nerfed into the ground. I think KotFT has nothing on stormwind. Just look at wild, you could run DK Jaina or Rexxar into pirate warrior or demon seed… but nobody does because they lose. Power creep is prevalent in any tcg and it is no exception here. Just look at what demon seed did to control archetypes going to fatigue. Blizz was transparent that they wanted fatigue control dead, and one card has killed a whole archetype. So I don’t think this the weakest expansion, it just doesn’t change much from last expansion because of the quests and general power level of battlemaster, garrote etc.

No, because it proves to the Devs that they are designing the cards in the right direction, and they will keep repeating the same mistakes....
All this discussion is fine until more people discover Freeze Shaman.
That deck will be the new cancer, forcing an entirely combo meta, since it destroys every board-centric strategy while being a burn/otk hybrid, therefore also beating slower control decks.
OTK variant (with Bolner/y'sharrj as primary wincon) is pretty slow - it's pretty useless in this combo-y meta where there's barely any board decks to freeze - pallies are under 50%, and the rest (druids, mages, locks) are just faster combos (killing around T8-9). Not really enough draw to compete. Not that much burn in the variants I've seen - pretty much just tank/frostbite/medic (and casting the second medic corrupted is risky for the OTK).
Also struggles to permanently deal with stuff >3HP, I find. Drawing into Snowfalls is crucial, and sometimes it whiffs on that and you just die. I'd suspect that the non-OTK variant fares significantly better, being able to pressure more.
Rastakhans rumble comes to mind as a notably non-influential set, especially compared to AV. UiS is definitely a strong set, and comparably so to AV, but AV certainly isn’t a weak set

But that's what I mean... some people are enjoying the cards the way they are. And I think you'll never have a 100% satisfied target audience.
I feel like the majority of people posting on forums tend to do so in order to voice their distaste for things, but do these people account for more than half the player base, or less? I'd be interested to see these numbers, if they existed somewhere.
I mean, I shouldn't come here and expect everyone to stop being negative and just get on with it, because we all have our right to feel how we feel. I guess I'd just like to try and look at things in a better way.

Life in general: when people have good positive experience about anything, they are less likely to go around the internet, spread the words, and voice their opinions (similar to food/clothes/shopping experience) but when people have negative experience, they are more likely to do all those activities.
Half of the class sets (hunter, priest, DH, mage and warrior) are officially dead, not a single new class card being played in those classes. To correct the OP, this is not a weak expansion, but a VERY disappointing one.
My biggest disappointment was DH, I rly thought Kurtrus would make the class relevant, it didnt. And the reason is super depressing.
Kurtrus biggest selling point, the 26 dmg combo at turn 9 with Felfire and Performers requires your opponent to have a board, in other words, interaction.
I-N-T-E-R-A-C-T-I-O-N
A very powerful hero card, that can almost OTK your opponent from hand on turn 9 with only 2 cards sees zero play cuz it requires interaction with the opponent. If thats not a sign of how degenerate the game has become, I dont know what is.
Maybe the meta has changed in the past couple of days but I took big demon hunter to legend. That almost otk combo was a frequent way that I won the game.
A lot (about half) of what I'm seeing is non-board decks - lock, mage, druid etc.. Also any combo that's requiring 10 mana is useless, since most of these decks will kill you before then. The rest are pallies, which are generally favourable but not enough to countact such a high amount of non-board decks. Also been bricking a fair chunk, but that's sketchy combo decks for you! (I'm not on big DH, rather something sketchier).
Also not much combo can do when devolving missiles hits a 1/8 chance to never hit the buffed trogg on T2.
Big Demon Hunter can beat non-minion decks. That's where the big demons come in. Also, warlock isn't a non-board deck. Tamsin hero ensures that they will have some minions on board and there are other minions they play for card draw.
The combo works well against rogue, paladin, warrior, priest, shaman, and warlock. You are more likely to beat mage with big minions. Pretty much no deck kills big demon hunter before turn ten. The big demons are taunt minions that are quite hard to get through and weapon removal prevents warlock from winning early (if agro versions of warlock were more popular my deck would be in trouble). Taintheart Tormenter and Mo'arg Forgefiend slow the game down.

That sounds very probable in the higher ranks, but, if this site's threads are any indication, people lower than high legend still haven't moved away from the old decks that are either midrangey big-play board centeic decks or stall until a pretty late otk. As i understand it, Shaman feasts on both of those styles.

Well, there is in reality a way in order to measure how things are going in Hearthstone. The smartest way that I have in mind is Twitch View.
Therefore, even if you like it, the universal answer is that people are overall not happy. If you check the chart, the public is constantly decreasing, there are no peaks anymore after the releases, and people are already decreasing regarding the new expansion. People for sure lost the enjoyment after the new expansion releases (no picks) and the shape of the public is constantly decreasing.
Hearthstone seems not in an alarming situation but not even in a good shape. You have also to consider a huge factor in this data. "The Twitch boom". People that are using Twitch increased a lot in the period, but regarding this Heasrtone's public decreased. Hearthstone before was one of the most followed games on Twitch now it is ranked 20 as a game viewers. Therefore, things for sure are not going well - People are losing interest in the game, not fast but constantly. And for sure they lost interest for the new expansions (no picks in views anymore).

That's because most streamers play Battlegrounds and nobody interested in a card game wants to watch that. The expansion itself was not weak at all, as we see nearly all Herocards are constantly played in all decks. The expansion before simply crashed the game. They simply have to nerf specific cards and we'll see how good the current expansion really is.
To be honest i am more surprised that the game has the current relevance that it has. I mean the game won't never really die as blizz fanbois are so rappid that will rarely let anything by blizz to actually die, but the game has still decent playerbase. A small fraction of what it had in 2017-2019 for sure but still relevant. And while there are superior games like runetera and mtga out there. It's impressive.
Maybe gamers are gluttons for punishment after all XD

I am flattered by your thoughts on my rank. They're wrong, though :P I may have fallen into a pocket meta of few board decks, but overall it's been very heavy on the boardless for a good while now - as I don't play STD much, I'm currently not too high (and certainly not high legend!). Streaked up, then just hit a wall of abysmal MUs and worse RNG.
Yes, game has become shit for a long time. Worse is that they are really charging for stuff ! MORE MONEY IS REQUIRED!!! MORE MONEY IS REQUIRED!!! MORE MONEY IS REQUIRED!!! LITERALLY!

No, most streamers stream battlegrounds because constructed lost its popularity.
Streamers stream what is popular. Remove battlegrounds and we'll see Hearthstone not an #20 but at #50.
Battlegrounds is what saved Hearthstone numbers on Twitch. I remember the massive exodus of Hearthstone streamers to TFT. BG brought many of them back.
It's the last expansion of the 2-year cycle so you still have all the cards that came before and so it's harder for this particular one to make an impact. This is coupled with the Core set having been designed to work with the current expansions and this again rotates early next year. This is why old decks with small modifications are still the strongest but it is their last hurrah and then we will have a major shake up. Having said that, core mechanics haven't really changed that much over the years, at its core it is still the same game and that will probably not change anytime soon.
You are 100% right i can tell you that since im playing from beta. That said on rotation Paladin will again be tier 1 somehow. Im glad af those fuc** librams are rotating the fu** out. I hate those cards so much.
