I am not saying that this is a bad expansion. It is not a good one and it is not a bad one. It is an average expansion, which created a medium-low interest in me.
Anyway, probably the long time that passed in Hearthstone, the incredible disappointment of mercenaries; they made this expansion an expansion that doesn't exist for me.
We had for sure far worst and not useful expansions than this, but, this is the first time that I am not interested at all in playing this game even after the cards are released.
I crafted one legendary card and that's it. I have all I wanted. No pre-order, nothing. All euros were saved for Christmas presents ( at least this is a good point).
It seems for me always the same, nothing new so on and so forth. And.... Mercenaries. I cannot forgive Blizz because they sold 130€ pre-order, promised to do things and they do nothing. Blizz made me really crazy with this.
Probably time in this game is ended for me. I am not able to appreciate it anymore.
It's the last expansion of the 2-year cycle so you still have all the cards that came before and so it's harder for this particular one to make an impact. This is coupled with the Core set having been designed to work with the current expansions and this again rotates early next year. This is why old decks with small modifications are still the strongest but it is their last hurrah and then we will have a major shake up. Having said that, core mechanics haven't really changed that much over the years, at its core it is still the same game and that will probably not change anytime soon.
My issue is not even with the expansion itself. This expansion in my opinion is not for sure a good one with cool new things and impact in the meta but not even the worst one. We had in the past a lot of garbage expansions with practically 0 impact in the meta and with nothing new.
My issues are:
The repetitiveness. Blizz that seems not able to add new things. Since the start, Hearthstone is always the same. Blizzard added 2 new types of cards, quests and hero cards (big word, considering that there was Jaraxx) and that's it. I am not able to continue to see this repetitiveness. Yes, they are adding new card mechanics but they are always mediocre with very little inventiveness. Tradable Cards is perhaps the only interesting mechanic that Blizz has added over the years. You can like or dislike tradable cards but it is something really new to the concept of "interact" with the deck.
Scam. I am mad about mercenaries. I cannot forgive it. I was very happy about this game mode. Blizz totally destroyed it with unfulfilled promises, uselessness in coin management, and a preorder of 130 euros.
Devs don't like to risk anything. They will continue printing the same cards over and over again untill the game dies. Bli$$ard seems not to care about innovation since a long time ago, only about instant gratification until the entire company goes bankrupt. They still have a huge fanbase, which will allow them to continue operating the same way for a very long time.
Usually the last expansion of the year should make the most impact with the most powercreep (LoE, MSG, K&C, DOD, and MDF).... but this year of the Gryphon broke the tradition as they "accidentally" gave too much power/impact to UiS that it overshadowed FAV.....

I hear you. Thing is I was just like you and said a few times that would quit, actually did try a few days ago then came back. Sign of addiction for sure and I think you are addicted too. Give it a rest play other games for some time then you will be able to come back to HS all excited. I am having a blast with two amazing games I strongly recommend: Valheim et Wildermyth.

Nobody forced you to preorder both bundles for a game mode that seemed unconvincing at best. I am quite happy a lot of people got burnt this way, maybe they will learn in the future. I am also glad this game mode failed catastrophically. They promised a lot, raised hype, and we got an absolutely horrible version of pokemon, without all the aspects that makes pokemon one of the best turn-based games in the world. Also the expansion is not super strong, with the exception of a few key cards: 4 heroes, one legendary, a handful of epics and the some of the most influential cards in the set are common or rare. It's a very affordable expansion, unless you want a full collection for some reason. You also don't lose anything not playing it. I think it is fine, despite it being combo-heavy (I love combo). You can always come back another expansion when they nerf combo if you don't like it.
My issue is not even with the expansion itself. This expansion in my opinion is not for sure a good one with cool new things and impact in the meta but not even the worst one. We had in the past a lot of garbage expansions with practically 0 impact in the meta and with nothing new.

1) You are just bored of Hearthstone and "lack of innovations" has nothing to do with it. People tend to get bored of playing the same game again and again. Also, this is a superb example of unconstructive criticism. You complain that there are no new types of cards but fail to propose a single one that you'd consider new.
2) Mercenaries are exactly what was promised. Point a single prerelease statement which isn't true. If you are unwise enough to buy a preorder of a game you know very little about then it is your problem.
I don't think this expansion is very weak. Most of the hero cards are playable (except for Mage and Warrior), there are new archetypes (OwlTK, Freeze Shaman) and some existing ones got new cards (Druid, Paladin, Hunter), there are new meme decks too. One thing I would like to see is more revolution in the meta, but nerfs will probably be implemented soon and for more changes we need to wait untill rotation. This expansion is ok.
I do agree that the expansion is weaker than it should be. Although we do have impactful cards we still dying to uninteractive combos. We need nerds especially for wild since the only new deck that is in meta is freeze shaman. We need dial back warrior and hunter quests. Warlock has huge problem with his quest line too - it should be part of wild but we need to make it so instead when you would take dmg your opponent takes 1 or 2 dmg. - you are immune but it's not oppressive for opponent.
My issue is not even with the expansion itself. This expansion in my opinion is not for sure a good one with cool new things and impact in the meta but not even the worst one. We had in the past a lot of garbage expansions with practically 0 impact in the meta and with nothing new.

I don't remember them promising a buggy, tedious shit stained money grab, but perhaps I don't speak blizzard well enough.
Expansion is not weak. Even the warlock fel stuff is strong enough to take me to wild legend. Drekthar is maybe the most powerful card in history, Trog is an insane one drop, nearly all heros are powerful. Only problem is Hunter and warrior quest in wild and maybe rod in standard.
It's not my favourite expansion, but aside from the ever-growing polarity of matchups, I definitely like it. We have multiple playable classes in standard and many viable decks, but none of them dominate the rest. There's less hyper aggro, control is finally back on the menu, combo is beatable.
I’m playing a competitive quest handlock, talking from the perspective that I usually reach legend but in september decided to stop playing for a month. I came with this expansion and found some interesting decks. Mana druid is one I’m expecting to play when I have the dust to craft the cards and, until then, I’ll play as I said quest handlock giving me a nice average of 60% of games won. So I dont’t know, but I am liking the way the expansion is going. (Not talking about the way they are dealing with mercenaries that is really greedy)
So you never saw the grand tournament ? the witchwood ?
Witchwood had Baku and Genn, which were so powerful that they had to be rotated early. TGT had a crap mechanic in inspire, but there was also mysterious challenger and justicar trueheart. This expansion is also far from weak but there is just too much global cost reduction and hyper tuned questlines. The warrior questline is a great example of blizz not really knowing what they are doing after this long. Buffing pirates before a pirate centric mini set which then needs a nerf next set… this is a clear sign of ignorance. At least next exansion will be affordable with all the free dust from 10 class legendaries that will be rotated early.
Take a break from Hearthstone then. It's just a game after all and if you don't like it, there's no reason for you to play it. I took a break for almost a year and just recently came back and I can say, it's really refreshing. The meta changed completely, there is a lot of new interesting cards and it's actually fun again. Last time I played regularly was during Scholomance and I just got sick of the repetetiveness, like you are now. So yeah, my adivce is to take a break long enough, untill you are excited to play again.
I cannot forgive Blizz because they sold 130€ pre-order, promised to do things and they do nothing. Blizz made me really crazy with this.
Its blizzards fault that you payed 130€ for a game that seemed to be shit in the trailer and finaly ended up being shit. The plot twist of the year
Not Blizzard’s fault per se, but it’s undeniable that they were intentionally vague about a mode that was heavily monetized from the beginning and had a full dose of FOMO from Blizz. I’m not saying there is no personal responsibility, but hearthstone (and all TCGs) appeals to people with at least a slight predilection for gambling addiction and FOMO. Blizzard knew who they were targeting with mercenaries and they went really hard at it. Sad thing is that was their core player base, it’s predatory and disrespectful of their most devoted fans. They knew this mode was total shit but they had to make a profit on it, so they cannibalized their fans. So again, nobody made anyone buy mercs, but they also heavily targeted their most “loyal” players for their “premier mode” that still isn’t even finished.
