Quest priest is seeing play. I haven't been playing much standard but it seems to be okay. You will have to deal with guaranteed losses if you play control though.
You probably won't get to plat a lot of crazy long value games but if you are into the old school "win on turn 12" control style I think this will be a great expansion. We'll have to see of course
Seems like there is an attempt to make control more viable in FiAV, but the devs have indicated that the future of control is control with a win condition (other than fatigue). Guess that's things like big threats, the Priest Questline, etc. 🤷♀️
I would wait to see how the new set pans out. I am assuming they are ready to proceed with another round of nerfs if the hero cards are overshadowed by quests. Of course, there’s always the first day or two of the expansion release where you might be able to have some fun before most people start netdecking again
Questline Shaman IS a control deck, and it did just fine until they nerfed Perpetual Flame.
Yes, Questlock and Quest Priest will beat your control deck if Fatigue is your primary win condition. I think that is fine, because Fatigue is a stupid, boring win condition, every bit as bad as Quest Mage ever was.
But my point is this: There will always be decks that can beat you, no matter what archetype you choose to play. And there will always be plenty of decks that are not Priest or Warlock, so you should not just assume control is "dead" just because counters exist. Counters exist for every deck, and the game would be utterly broken if there were One Archetype To Rule Them All.
Control is not dead and pretty winning, if you play on other server or on new account on low ratings (before Bronze). Many players don't have ideal decks, so it is easy to have fun there. We have lots of control tools even right now. I most like discover package, including Pandaren Importer, Venomous Scorpid, Entrapped Sorceress, Wandmakers. Those can easily discover you TONS of control tools, turning almost any deck into control-ish one.

If you’re saying that one would have to create whole a new account to play at below bronze level in order to compete with a control deck, you might as well admit that strategy is dead for all intents and purposes.
Running a tech card with the intention of holding it till t7-t8 in case your opponent is a Paladin is a very bad idea in ANY deck. Unless Paladin and Cariel in particular are extremely oppressive and warp the meta, anti-weapon tech is not going to see any play in decent decks
if lightforged cariel doesn't bring back control, nothing will
Ooze,viper
That's a problem but they will never be in every deck, let alone in every game
I don’t understand the focus on the weapon as an indicator of this card’s strength to begin with. Even if it doesn’t get oozed, is swinging for 2 damage per turn supposed to be a big deal on turn 8+? As far as i know paladin doesn’t have any relevant weapon attack boosts to make the shield more threatening at all. I mean, if this card had a passive effect of gaining +2 attack per turn would people be concerned that it was an “un-removable weapon”? Keeping in mind that the warrior questline already has a reward which deals 4 damage per turn, summons a minion,, and equips a weapon infinitely , which is also immune to removal since it replaces itself.
I like play control, which was destroy in last expansion. Is it chance that we have working control decks in thix exp?

Control won’t see play until quest line go away.

Gonna play some demonseed. Beats control and aggro in general easily.

Wait for the next expansion. Until the quests decks are gone there is not much control decks can do.
"... but not less than (1)" is needed now more than ever!

this is the best moment to get back than ever before
Not worth it, nothing will change, aggro moar control less.
It seems like Shaman will have some decent control with all the freeze cards.
