Funny to read this 2 months after I stopped playing standard. Several balance patches, nothing has changed... Quest warlock still the best deck and a new monster - pirate warrior (ofc also with the quest) came up... Blizzard have to admit their mistake and remove those quests like they did with Baku / Glenn. Untill they do, no point and no fun playing constructed. I ll stick to BGs and even Mercs.
Agree, the Quests need to go otherwise the whole new expansion will be a waste.
The Warrior Quest is beatable by slower board-based decks, that's the only reason they haven't already nerfed it into oblivion.
It's also a deck that forces faster match ups. You can't be passive against it, or it will kill you with overwhelming value/aggro. But like if I'm playing anything even remotely mid-range I can keep up. (Until they finish their quest)
The issue I have with it, is the consistent tempo. Too many minions with great effects and premium stats. Makes it increasingly difficult to really compete with using a tempo deck.
I don't find Quest warrior to be an oppressive deck in standard. Even though I'm not even playing S tier decks (nerfed mage and Libram pally) I can go toe to toe with it.
The only thing I dislike about it is the RNG element.
Is there a Wild deck that can counter both Pirate Warrior and Quest Hunter?
Highlander quest warrior. I got legend very easily by it. Reno and Zephrys keep you alive if you get low on health and juggernaut and 7/7 pirate on turn 6 will provide good offence. One dirty rat on the deck works always.
I agree. It's too fast, gets too much on the board and it bashes our face in the process. It's even worse in wild. They need to increase the requirements to 3 pirates for each stage. Don't get me started on the Juggernaut highrolls, but hey, that's rng, other times they get total garbage.
tbh I have positive winrate against quest pirate warrior with taunt druid, about 60% maybe. From D5 to legend I almost only played them and quest mages and against warriors I almost had no loss. More after legend but yes, with a slower deck pirates can be a trouble.
As much as I agree some of the pirate warrior package is a bit overtuned right now, at least they fucking play minions on the board.
I'm so done with games where I play against an opponent that is passive or reactive, and then all of a sudden it's like, "oop, there goes your health, haha"
They did the same thing with Pirate Warrior as they did to Secret Mage: They slowly erased all of their weaknesses.
Pre-Stormwind Pirate Warrior decks had one main weakness: They ran out of gas quickly. It was the deck's weakness to compensate the early rush. If you were able to handle the pirates' raid, you won the game.
They partly destroyed this by printing Ancharrr, but still, Pirate Warriors had a hard time finding their only draw engine. However, with Stormwind, they compleletly broke the deck's weakness. You draw Ancharrr every game, you have card draw for more Pirates, armor-gain and most importantly, a never-ending fuel of Pirates and damage.
This was rather predictable after the Nerfs to The Demon Seed, Shaman and now Mage.
Some of the Quests were overtuned to begin with, and now instead of nerfing, they are just overwriting them with some in particular busted Herocards (I'am looking at YOU Scabbs ... and potentially the Druid Herocard)
I also doubt they are too concerned balancing stuff so shortly ahead of expansion release,, especially since they have other crap from Activi$ion to deal with at the moment...

Taunt Druid counters Pirate Warrior, so no wonder you have a positive winrate...
Indeed. That was what I meant behind this one, for as long as I play this game, always there have been decks that occupy the meta and certain decks (tier 1 again) to counter them. Therefore, if you mostly face this certain deck, just play its counter t1 and enjoy :)

I really like the warrior matchup lol in fact one of the few i enjoy right now.
Seriously, if you’re having trouble, handlock destroys it. Craft handlock, you can even go card for card from the vs deck list, enjoy the wins.
Handlock easily dies to Quest Hunter....

At least quest warrior can be countered, so no, it did not destroy standard.

on standard - play libram pala - easy win

Those games are much worse.
How to fix quests: Make effect not permanent, but for x turns, like “Your hero has + 2 Spell damage for next 5 turns”
I can only talk about the Wild version.

Strong early-game, insured card draw, infinite end-game.
What's the weakness of the current Pirate Warrior? Nothing. There is none.
Obey C'Thun, Praise The Darkness, Pet Hakkar, the Soulflayer, Love Yogg-Saron, Hope's End
Yeah its needs to be looked at; but so do many other things tbh :)

Good job on the balancing blizz, Wild is completely destroyed.
