Yelling "FOR THE HORDE" has so much of a better ring to it than "FOR THE ALLIANCE" does.
I know the card choice has nothing to do with actual WoW. Personally, I'm leaning more towards Alliance here because the effect of the card seems so much better than the effect the Horde has. Mana reduction is insane as we've seen in the past year. I feel like Horde is much more aggro focused, which considering what I know about the Horde seems to match up.
You know what, I've made my decision. I'm choosing Alliance. I'm not a fan of aggro.
You get the one you pick, and then after you finish the Legendary quest line, you get the other one. When the mini-set launches, you'll get a Diamond version of the winning teams Faction leader.
The Legendary quest line doesn't start until the expansion launches, I'm assuming

oh ok, so no need to worry too much about choosing the weaker card here then.. If we all gonna get both of them eventually, then thats great.
I feel you on the "for the horde" sounding way better. It does, but after years of fighting for King Garrosh, i'm going to choose Alliance because yes, mana reduction is insane! and Stormpike will immediately go into my big druid ft Aviana, Omu, and Malygos.
If you REALLY want the Diamond version, then pick Horde. Firstly, Aggro will always be more popular and second, Horde is more popular amongst the wow fanbase.
But I guess it doesn't matter, diamond cards are ugly anyways.
Not only the winners! Every player will recieve the diamond legendary of the winning side no matter what you have chosen. We will also get the golden legendary we didnt chose after the expansion launches in the track or in a legendary questline

A fight for honor. The time has come to take up arms! Starting today, players in Rifts in Alterac Valley can choose a faction by choosing one of two free golden legendary cards: the Shaman Elder Drek'Thar of the Frostwolf Clan for the Horde or the Mountain King Vanndar Stormpike for the Alliance. From December 7th to January 11th, each faction will receive unique quests where players will earn Honor Points by playing and winning games. The faction that earned the most honor at the end of the event will be declared the winner in the next mini-set, and all players will receive a diamond version of the victorious faction's leader card.
This is a weighty choice that should not be made lightly! After the expansion launches, you will fight for your faction in order to earn prizes and the ultimate honor of your faction’s legendary being a free Diamond card for the set! But don’t fret, part of the post-expansion journey will include you getting a Golden copy of the enemy faction’s leader, too.
Vanndar doesn't seem at all good to me. Sure, you can massively buff the cost of late-game minions, but you can't start playing them until Turn 5 (pretty much) and you'll have no early game minions. Maybe you can get by with early spells and weapons, but it's probably a weak archetype. Missing a Turn 4 Vanndar in a Vanndar deck is going to be catastrophic. Meanwhile, in some sort of mana-cheat recruit deck, pulling only a 4/4 is also a tragic outcome. That kind of attempt to draw-highroll doesn't seem fun to me.
Drek'thar, however, is going to be consistent. He'll be a solid 4-mana card in any deck that limits itself to 1-2-3 cost minions. Not super exciting, and he only works with aggro, but he'll always do his thing.
That said, if you don't play aggro, well, Drek'thar isn't the card for you.
Honestly, I like both of them. Drek'thar is amazing for low-curve aggro and Vanndar would be perfect for some of my pet projects. The only issue is that I wish Vanndar reduces the cost of every card n the deck as opposed to just minions.
I really don't know which one to pick. Drek'thar is the safe one but since I am not hyper competitive (and I am more Alliance than Horde on WoW despite playing both sides), I actually want to select Vanndar but I have to find a deck worth using him first before doing so.
My pick is based on the card effect, deck types, and associated classes I enjoy playing with, not what I like winning with. So it is Alliance in this case, for Paladin/Priest/Rogue/Demon Hunter/Hunter
Just to make it clear: eventually, ALL players will be given both cards in Golden and one of them in diamond for a total of *three* cards - provided that you finish the legendary quest. So, the choice you make now is really just which legendary you would like to have access to first.
Personally, I favour the Alliance for two reasons: the legendary fits my play style, and Xyrella is bae. Never played WoW, no nostalgia.

that's the kind of answer I was waiting for, thank you!
so no need to think hard and try to min max here, got it. Everyone will get all the cards, yay!

I really don't know what to choose here.

do you get the both cards in your collection or just the one you pick??

jus the one you pick
I'm with you - Vanndar seems way more fun to me. So I have to pick it.
I am no longer a WoW player, but I was Horde all the way back then - I will always think they are much cooler.
But I want to play some big, chunky minions for cheap :)
oh ok, so no need to worry too much about choosing the weaker card here then.. If we all gonna get both of them eventually, then thats great.
If you would ask WoW players, the answer would be Horde because that's where the majority of WoW players are.
Horde also won the last horde vs alliance contest Blizzard made for a mount.
But honestly, without the rest of the set, Drek'Thar doesn't really look that good.
It doesn't fit well in any of the current meta aggro decks.
Aggro druid has Greybough and Teacher's Pet at 5. Aggro hunter has Barak and Rhino at 5.
Mr. Smite costs 6 for pirate based combos and so does Fire Elemental for aggro elemental shaman.
Those are all really important cards to remove to put Drek'Thar in the deck.
I feel you on the "for the horde" sounding way better. It does, but after years of fighting for King Garrosh, i'm going to choose Alliance because yes, mana reduction is insane! and Stormpike will immediately go into my big druid ft Aviana, Omu, and Malygos.
alright so another question:
will everyone get the diamond winnig faction's leader legendary card later on, or just the people who picked the winner?
If you REALLY want the Diamond version, then pick Horde. Firstly, Aggro will always be more popular and second, Horde is more popular amongst the wow fanbase.
But I guess it doesn't matter, diamond cards are ugly anyways.
Where is Garrosh when we need him to purify the traitors that picked the alliance card.
Vanndar Stormspike is a glorified Frizz Kindleroost, will be overhyped just as much.
Drek'thar is the real deal, it's tempo, it's card cycling, it's massive impact in the right deck, and it's the HORDE.
Everyone gets both faction leaders in golden, only the winners get the diamond
only the winners? damn thats what I was afraid of.
Picked the alliance, because I hate aggro, and it seems like a cool card.
Not only the winners! Every player will recieve the diamond legendary of the winning side no matter what you have chosen. We will also get the golden legendary we didnt chose after the expansion launches in the track or in a legendary questline
