Hi all, been away for 4 years. The last I played was when the Karazhan adventure came out. I completed that and played for while after and then suddenly just lost interests for some reason lol.
Question I have mainly is what mode is the one you play on where you get Legend rank nowadays is it still standard where you only use certain cards from years past? I wanna play what most people play but from what I am reading, many are playing BG and Mercs? Is that a money sink or is actually fun?
Got 3600 dust and a lot of the OP older cards, Legends, Epics but I am sure they are not meta anymore. I have 3 level 60s, few 40s and rest above level 20. Should I focus on getting all my classes to 60? Sadly none of my Heroes are golden yet, my 60s are in the 300 wins area.
Like I said, I did my last adventure for Karazhan, should I do all the adventures and get caught up with them first? Btw DemonHunter wasn't in game when I played so I have nothing for that class. Is there any sets I should drop cash on if I had it to spend?
What is this Tavern pass thing for 20 bucks? Does that make my playing time faster experience wise? Is this something I need?
What is the latest 2 expansions of cards that area allowed currently in Standard? I assume Casual mode is just that? You can't complete quests or important stuff there?
Last question, are there any cards I must get as in hunt for in packs or make with dust for any class that would help jumpstart me back in the game?
The traditional hearthstone mode has four modes: standard, wild, classic and casual.
Standard is a restricted mode with only the past two years worth of expansions allowed plus the current selection in the core set.
Wild allows all cards (minus two banned warlock cards).
Classic allows only cards from the original set and uses their versions from launch, regardless of future changes.
Legend can be reached in all of these.
Casual is unranked, but smart. In the sense that it will queue you into the right mode depending on your selected deck.
The Core set is a new addition that temporarily grants a base stock of cards to all players (replacing the basic and classic cards). The selection changes every year and can contain cards from all expansions not just basic and classic. Cards are unlocked by leveling classes to 10 (do that for DH).
Arena has a different selection of expansions, that changes every so often. Search around for what is currently included.
BGs don't require cards, so try that.
Mercs just came out and while you can spend money, there are a few free packs available. So try that as well.
Adventures are not important anymore for the most part. Some cards are used in wild though.
Quest can be completed in most PVP modes (even BGs, do your X of tribe there).
The Tavern pass is optional for the reward track and grants more experience from quests (they no longer yield gold, it solely comes from the reward track) and some cosmetics.
Expansions contain a legendary within the first 10 packs and we have duplicate protection. Which means that you won't see more copies of a card until you have collected every card (of that expansion) of the same rarity. (Dusting counts as having had a card.)
They have also introduced a mini set that releases halfway through the expansion, costing 2000g or money.

Hi. Welcome back. Nice, I remember that adventure. I think you're thinking about Wild. In the Wild mode, you can use the cards of the past
BG's - you can play free to play. You'll start out with only picking between 2 champions. But if you buy the Battlegrounds pass with either Gold or IRL monies then you can choose between 4 champions. Right now, I think it either costs about 1250 gold or $10. You can spend more irl money on cosmetics for BG's but again it's just for cosmetics.
Mercs - you can play free to play. You can either put in real money or gold. You'll have to get packs to stay relevant though. You can buy packs with either gold or irl money.
3600 dust isn't that bad. All the OP older cards can be useful in the Wild format. And also, that's pretty good that you have a few 60's and 40's and even 20's under your belt. And I don't think it's necessary to get all classes to 60 but if you're OCD about it then you could. Oh and that's ok that you don't have any golden heroes. 300 is a decent amount. Half way there?
Also, the adventures are negligible at this time. I haven't been doing them since... well a while now. So, I would say that you can skip them. Hmm, on DemonHunter? I guess you could buy packs but which packs? I'm not sure. Maybe Standard packs? Stormwind packs? I don't know.
Yeah, the Tavern pass makes playing time faster experience wise. But it's not necessary. I have friends that don't purchase those Tavern passes at all. It really just depends on how much time you have on your hands. And no, you don't need the Tavern pass. And if you're just starting out now then I would highly suggest that you DO NOT buy the Tavern pass at this time as the expansion is nearing its end. Well, not quite but close. I think it's a little less than the half-way point at this point. I say this because the mini-set hasn't dropped yet and when it does drop that means that we're officially at the half-way point in the expansion. And from what this content creator named: Zeddy says he speculates that the mini-set should drop on Nov. 2. So when Nov 2nd hits then that'll be the half-way point. Or at least it should be.
Hmm, Stormwind and Forged in the Barrens? But there's more to that in Standard. I think it also encompasses Ashes of Outlands, Scholomance Academy or whatever, Darkness at the Darkmoon Faire or whatever, Forged in the Barrens, and then United in Stormwind or whatever?
Hmm, I think casual mode is a mode where you can use both Wild and Standard decks to versus people. Also, I think you can actually complete quests in casual mode but not all of them. Some quests you have to complete in other modes or just Standard ranked mode or Wild ranked mode? I'm not sure.
Also, I'm not entirely sure. I guess it just depends on the class you want to play and then craft/hunt for them accordingly.
No problem. Hope this helps. Sorry for the misinformation if any. This is coming from a casual player that has been playing since late Naxx up to until now whose never hit Legend. I was like rank 10 at best then in the new system Gold at best.
Ok thanks to you both for the informative answers. Yea they added a lot of content since I played last. I don't mind paying real money for some content but not whole lot, just what is relevant. I may buy some Forged in the Barrens and Stormwind packs to sort of get current.
So I take it the Tavern pass is more or less a buff for certain period of time then?
So I take it the Tavern pass is more or less a buff for certain period of time then?
It's active for the current expansion and has to be bought again for the next one. The benefits are mostly the cosmetics and a small overall boost to gold.
For the packs, check which decks you want to play and what expansion the cards are from. Also as mentioned, the mini set is around the corner, potentially shaking up the meta. So keep that in mind before you go and spend/craft a shiny deck now when it might get crushed in two or so weeks.
But yeah, buying packs of the last few expansions one by one and checking for the legendary might be a good idea.
Thank you Banur. Well I decided to buy 69.00 worth of packs for Stormwind and Forged in Barrens, plus the Tavern Pass. I plan to play alot in the coming weeks so I did just what you said and see alot of cards for decks I wanna play from those 2 expansions.
Tavern pass should give you at 2000g if you play frequently. It also gives you a legendary, so it's like the best bundle for people who plays and mostly spend all their gold after set release. There should be a miniset rather soon but you can get that for the gold you get now. As for standard/wild or classic? Play what you find the most fun. I used to mostly play wild but since december I've been more of a standard guy. BG is fun too and a great break from ladder, which also gives good XP.
