Ive been away for a long time and would love to return. The reason I left was purely cost. Im now several expansions behind and I would like to know has the 'economy' changed at all.
Before I left it would take about £200 per expansion to play everything I wanted to play plus any gold I could save.
things are the same (probably)... things didn't get any cheaper unfortunately.

After doing my research I found out that the pink 'stuff' that appeared onto hearthstone cards must, in fact, have been coronavirus. It has through hearthstone spread across the globe and infected all computers. And because too few people played hearthstone with plastic gloves on they got infected through their computer. Thus coronavirus is Hearthstone's fault and I expect a total of 3 packs from each expansion to be given to all coronavirus victims.
Things are much more affordable now compared to a couple of years ago for sure. The packs are still the same but there's many more rewards and the returning/new players are given a whole free deck with multiple epics/legendaries.
£200 seems a lot. I usually get by with buying both bundles for each new expansion. If you're careful with your dust and crafting you could probably get away with spending even less and still being to play 80% of the best decks. Most importantly, don't rush to craft things on day 1. Wait a few weeks and see what happens wrt balance changes and how the meta settles.
I get almost all cards from each expansion now with less than 100€:
- the small bundle that garanties two legendaries (50€ more or less)
- the tavern pass that increases my gold for next expansion and gives some rewards (basically one diamond legendary that I don't need to craft + stuff).
-and the first bundle after a new expansion with two more legendaries and 20 packs (10 from the new one and 10 standard ones).
I buy the mini-set with the 2000 gold.
Usually, with the tavern pass I manage to get around 10000 gold that I use for the next expansion (12000 minus 2000 for the mini set). So I have ~160-170 packs at the beginning of a new expansion and gets what is necessary with dust.
