This looks like Hearthstone's version of Raid Shadow Legends which is probably the greediest game i know of in terms of creating incentive to spend money to complete otherwise time consuming objectives. Since the release of the tavern passes i would assume there's been less spending on packs throughout an expansion and now Blizzard needs a new addition to the game to keep the micro transactions flowing when there's no expansion release bundles. I'm not gonna lie the game mode looks really fun and right up my alley but I know how addicting games like raid shadow legends was for me and how much money i wasted on it and it's just really disappointing to see Hearthstone follow that same path. I haven't heard any of the streamers talking about it yet but i wouldn't be shocked if a lot of them are opposed. maybe i need to do more research about this new mode but at first glance it looks like a huge money making scheme but then again there aren't many video games these days that aren't.
Everyone seems to be complaining about the mode being 'Pay to Win' and all of their greedy money jokes, even though there is not much evidence supporting as such.
They are currently charging for are optional Rare Promotional Mercenaries for the release of Mercenaries mode. They may be overpriced. Also, no one needs to buy these; however, everyone seems to be using this as their fundament towards the whole mode being pay to win. And I believe some people may be misguided into believing this is an entrance fee to unlock the game mode.
The only other thing that they have an option to buy is: Mercenary Packs. These can also be bought with gold. These packs are only to unlock new heroes. After getting some new heroes to your collection: the mode is entirely play to win. Your heroes only get stronger via playing more and levelling up. I believe in their new shop in the game mode, they may have certain Mercenaries or their pieces and skins on sale; however, it still doesn't look like it will be necessary to participate.
Also, this is almost an entirely single player game, that may be intended to take a very long while to complete over the course of hundreds or thousands of runs. Weaker minions will get stronger via playing and levelling, synergies, and equipment during each run. The one thing that may be considered 'pay to win' would be the PvP Arena, only if certain mercenaries are very overpowered, and a meta forms around only a few, causing people to go buy packs for those mercenaries. This will always happen to an extent, but no one knows how far this will go. And this mode to is a completely optional endeavour to play a fun game with others.

Friend, have you never played a gacha game?
The way games with collectible units work is that the basic units you get through gameplay are useless for anything past basic story content. You have to have a full team of max rarity units to even attempt any sort of endgame content.
It's possible that Blizz is going to balance this differently, but it's definitely worth being leery of that very strong possibility until we've seen the game in action.
if its a good new game mode,i plan to spend like 500 euros every year on it and enjoy it to the fullest.
nah , just joking, same story as duels, not even gonna try it.i managed to stay away from HS last 2 months and here i am , back to dailys,im gonna keep it to the minimum

Oh yes, certainly. I have played many gacha games, so I definitely understand what you are saying.
Whatever Blizzard decided to make this game still remains to be seen. And we all must excersice our caution, of course.
However, my stance is mostly against all the wholly negative players that are taking things slightly out of proportion without first knowing the truth about the game, of which we'll have to wait to discover in a month.

You're just being optimistic about it and there's nothing wrong with that. I think a lot of other people want to be optimists about it as well but all signs are pointing to the fact that it looks like so many other games out there that are pay to win.
I know how addicting games like raid shadow legends was for me and how much money i wasted on it and it's just really disappointing to see Hearthstone follow that same path.
You know the problem isn't the games but yourself? If you can't contain yourself from "wasting" money don't go blame it on the games.
They destroyed Wild with The Demon Seed and there complete lack of attempts to fix it. This invalidates most players large collections and makes it so you can only do standard (I.e., keep buying every expansion), or switch to battlegrounds ($ - again invalidates large collections), or Mercenaries ($)

Actually, I am not being optimistic nor pessimistic at all. My outlook has yet to be shared. I am just trying to be as objective as I can with my deductions and conclusions. I see too many people making assumptions and assuming the worst based on those assumptions instead of what we know is real. I believe we should reserve our final judgements, instead of making rash, explosive ones; however, take a good look at what we do have and not what we may have or don't have.
Yeah, it does look quite similar to some other games. I can't wait to see when we get our hands on it exactly what it'll be.
the only thing that pisses me off to say it mildly is that you need ingame gold to use in this mode when they should rather fix their stupid "real" game first. meaning you have to decide if you pay gold on this or the supercool real one, no irony included
this mode and battlegrounds being aggressively monetized just makes me immediately have no interest in it
Where is the heavy monetization in Battlegrounds? The pass just gives you two more heroes but it doesn't change anything and the rest is just cosmetics
When I heard a new game mode that would be related to a Roguelike RPG I expected something better structured and fun not a Battlegrounds 2.0 with fewer functions.
It is very clear that they first tried to monetize the mode and then the gameplay

Mercenaries looks like it has way more functions than Battlegrounds; let's not be ridiculous, here. Battlegrounds is a very simplistic mode with many heroes and minions, which serves its design well enough.

Sure, if we are only concerned with the gameplay and fun, then waiting isn’t an issue and it is the right move. They are however running promo bundles before you can even see. It’s not only one bundle but three and the combined price is quite steep.
It’s only cosmetics that (hopefully) won’t impact gameplay, but they are one time things unlikely to ever return.
I have no problem spending money. Overall it’s just the timing that has me sour: BG cosmetics from fire festival, two bundles. Shortly after another two bundles, now another bundle and Bob separately. Mercenaries preorder, three bundles. By the time mercenaries release it’s almost next expansion preorder time.
Granted, no one is forcing anyone to buy all those things and I’m passing on mercenaries. It just feels a bit too much, almost as if the need to hit some number for this quarter.

I hope you mean duels instead of battlegrounds or else I can't believe what I am reading. I have played Battlegrounds for months as f2p, even at medium to high ranks, and I haven't spent a single cent/gold, so this was a pure 100% gold grab for me.
Regarding mercenaries mode, I am actually quite hyped for this. I have quit when Stormwind released because I couldn't stand standard and wild anymore and lost all motivation. However, I think that, if the progress is quite fine, this mode will be very playable for f2p. You will apparently get 8 of 50 mercenaries for free and as far as I am aware, there is no entry cost. Sure, these mercenaries aren't crazy good legendaries, but you can probably still progress in the game mode. Can someone confirm this or do we have to pay like 1k gold to enter? I might have missed that then. The PvE part will probably also be quite challenging, so this is a great thing. Since upgrading mercenaries will likely take some time, even those who spend some money will not be able to bring a full legendary super broken combo to PvP on day 1 of release, so even in PvP, f2p players will probably not start with a huge disadvantage.
It's also quite fair that they are charging gold for packs and stuff because it looked like you can progress on your rewards track playing mercenaries. Otherwise there would be 0 incentive to spend any resource on the game because you also don't need any dust as far as I understood this. I also wonder what happens when you fully upgrade all heroes of the same rarity and open another pack. Do you get dust or some refund? I am not sure.
My only complaint so far is that the cheapest bundle should be 33% cheaper and contain like 5 packs less so that more players can enter more easily.

Well it seems that PvE is the "main" objective of the game mode. People are complaining a lot about it being Pay2Win but they legit said that the PvP is not the main part of the game AND that it's gonna be as "balanced" as possible when it comes to matchmaking, so yeah I'm hyped too!
People are going to dump hours into complaining about this on Reddit, sites like this etc.
I'll save all that time and do more productive things, wait for the mode to drop, have a play and then if its shit, I might have a moan and move on or just move on. It may not be something I enjoy and you know what...... That's OK! Not everything has to cater to me, not everything has to be to my taste or liking, I've never touched classic mode, want to know how often I've whinged about it? Never......
The quicker certain little snowflakes understand that not everything and everyone is focused on them as individuals and not everything revolves around their particular likes and dislikes, the quicker people can just get on with enjoying what they enjoy. The world can't always look after you, sometimes you have to own decisions you make and if you have problems with addiction etc, put measures in to protect yourself, don't demand that the world change for you.
I have no idea how relevant cash bought things will be. I don't really understand the mode fully at this point. No point spending the next 6 weeks complaining about it though. I'll find out then and make a decision about whether it's a mode that interests me or warrants my time.
It looks like a game from the '90s which cost 130€.
Do you guys have money?
It's free; it costs 0.
Optional bundles that give you nothing special that you can't get for free by playing. It's just a small boost to save a little time while supporting the company if you so desire.

As long as it stays independent, so I don't have to play it to optimize my standard/wild experience I don't care.
