Don't get me wrong -- I agree that Hearthstone and related products are WAY too expensive. But saying there are too many things to buy because you have to buy all of them is just crazy talk.
I think the Situation would be different if they wouldn't make every bundle time limited and be more transparent about which stuff will return in the future. If they had a rotation system in the Shop like Valorant or Fortnite with their skins, so you pretty much know that every skin will come back to the shop and also kinda estimate when, I think pretty much nobody would complain about the aggressive monetization. Or if they had permanent Skin offers like Legends of Runterra or Yugioh Duel Links instead of highly abusing fmo. At least that's my impression and view about the situation.

Limited-time offers are one of the oldest tricks in the book for driving sales. I don't see Blizzard dialing back the tried-and-true psychological gimmicks anytime soon.
As a consumer, it's important to recognize such tactics so you are better able to resist them. In this case, that means recognizing that you don't need cosmetic stuff and will not be missing out on anything important even if they never come back.
On the other hand, if you can afford it and the cosmetic/collecting aspect of the game is that important to you, go ahead and buy it. You know you're going to pay for it one way or the other eventually.

Anyway, game is not fun anymore. Shit autopilot decks everywhere now. Sadly the game turned into this. The game already has a low score on Google play and the playerbase is full LOW IQ or Children, so, Guess is time to go way. if u could stay way from this game for more than 2 months, keep on, don't come back, the game will be worse from now on.
even tho i dont like the direction they are taking the game you are correct it is way easy to get gold for packs now based on time spent playing instead of time spent playing a meta deck

Yu Gi Oh duel links at least has more positive ratings than this game nowadays.
The monetization of Mercenary feels really predatory. Besides the usual "limited time" to push compulsive buyer to buy every overpriced preorder deals that has that one character that may or may not be available in the future, I'm also scepitcal about the gacha/mercenary synergy system that... feels really close to Kompu Gacha. (Blizzard's lawyers probably double checked to make sure it wouldn't qualify as Kompu Gacha, but ....).
i.e.
"Kompu gacha, or “complete gacha”, is a system that strongly incentivizes the gacha monetization method. Gacha is similar to a prize vending machine at a carnival: you pay a small amount of money to receive an item at random. Kompu gacha expands on this mechanic by offering players an extremely valuable grand prize for completing a set of gacha prizes. Since the gacha prizes are awarded at random, it’s very hard to get these grand prizes. If you do the math, they can be worth hundreds of dollars each on average"
Kompu gacha is banned in most countries, including Europe, the US and Japan, as it is considered an anti-consumer practice.
The synergy between mercenaries in this new game mode feels really really close to Kompu gacha to be honest get the 3 ice heroes to get a more powerful combination of heroes that will give you a much higher winrate etc... . ( obligatory : i'm not an american law expert, don't take my post as legal advice, although i'm pretty sure any reasonable person wouldn't)
And finaly, reminder that hearthstone is, at its core, supposed to be a kid's game (ESRB 13+, but the HS team tried to drop it to 7+ for a while), meaning the agressive monetization is aimed at kids. All of this feels really yikes to me.

If I had a € for every time I read similar statements that weren't followed up by actual actions I'd be a millionaire.

The card packs for Mercenaries work exactly like normal Hearthstone, pity timers and all, so it's no more gacha than what you've been seeing in Standard for the past seven years. It's definitely a far cry from kompu gacha.
The main difference is that packs can also contain coins or portraits. But they will always contain at least one actual Mercenary character, with the rarity drop rates being the same as Hearthstone.
There's also the crafting system, which allows you to save up coins to craft what you want for a given character. That's a lot better than having to hope your next pack will contain one exact item out of all the available possibilities -- the main way kompu gacha makes so much money.
I cannot recall a game being soooo popular and falling so far and flat on its face like this in such a short amount of time.
Literally, every mode is complete and utter trash nowadays.
The game is bugged beyond belief and they dont seem to give a shit because nothing ever gets fixed.
Every mode and format is P2W now.
Its sad. Used to be my favorite game. Now every time i try to play it, i get more frustration than joy. And they think we'll pay for this product?? No thank you. Hard pass.
I think one of the main issues with Mercenary (beside the subjective one about appearance) is that is resource system to buy packs is shared with the main game.
The fact that the gold you earned can be used for both modes causes discontent as it subconsciously push player to split their attention and consequently in game earnings between modes, while acting like they are basically different games.
I think they're foolish not to consolidate the money spent on game modes honestly.
Who's going to spend money on multiple different game modes? They're just cannibalizing their own business that way.
Who said they expect you to? They are offering another option, that's all. If you get sick of Hearthstone (and who isn't, amirite?), here's this other game mode you can play while you take a break from all the Questlocks. If you look at it that way, it's actually nice that you don't have to leave your gold behind when you quit playing constructed.
I believe it will be normal for people to pick a favorite mode, and maybe have a second one that they poke their head into every once in a while. I'm pretty sure that's how it works with Battlegrounds right now. There are tons of people who play one or the other, not both.
If the Standard meta hasn't improved by the time the third expansion of the year comes out, there's no way I'm spending cash on that. But now Blizzard has a chance to get my money anyway. That's not cannibalization; it's insurance.

If the currencies were different for each mode, you'd still be splitting your attention and earning less of each. That's how time works.
If you don't want to spend your precious Hearthstone gold on Mercenaries, you don't have to. You can still play the game for free, but you'll have to do without things like Heroic mode. Just like in real life, you have to decide what's important enough to spend your pretend money on.
You are looking at Mercenaries from wrong perspective. Did you notice Hearthstone login screen changed? Now theres Hearthstone, Battleground and Mercenaries. Think of HS as a platform and there is 3 different games now. You dont have to play all of them. Or do you also play all games on Battlenet client and pay for everything in all of them?

The main problem with mercenaries is that you need to spend gold to upgrade your town, thats the only way to get BASIC functions of the game mode. Even if I want to play it for free and not spend the hard-earned gold on mercenaries packs, I still need to pay for it with gold.
Usually Im optimistic about changes and new game modes, but I have some doubts about this one. We still dont know how many gold is needed to upgrade your town fully, but I guess it will be several hundred, maybe even several thousand. The town upgrades should either cost some mercenaries-only currency OR you should get them by doing some quests/achievements in my opinion.

Ehm... This complaint makes little sense. By playing this new game mode you also get regular XP that gives you... GOLD. You can spend gold earned in Mercenaries on Hearthstone packs and this balances it out. Shared currency\reward track is a good thing.
I dislike that my existing Hearthstone gives me NOTHING in mercenaries but you know what? I remember constant WHINING "Duels are bad because they require existing wild collection!!!!" and I won't be like those guys. Sure, I'd prefer if owning Sylvanas as Hearthstone card gave me a free level or two in Mercenaries but I understand that it isn't same for everyone
I don't think that I will enjoy Mercenaries but If I'll do, my American server will become dedicated to it. With 50K gold stockpile I can get a good kickstart to the mode and may even direct all future gold there.
Even through, even if you are a Blizzard fan boy (which is understandable, because Blizzard anyway released pretty good stuffs), you have to admit that mercenaries have an horrible graphic. It is a shitty development from '90s.
For me it is disgusting a so shitty development with a 130€ pre-purchase. Do they want to really develop mercenaries after they received the money?

calm down guys. just ignore the cash grab, boycott cause of the lawsuit, and grind the gold out ftp for now on. screw blizzcan
A boycott is pointless unless you actually organize one, and have a goal for when the boycott would end.
Bye
