I've started playing Hearthstone on GvG launch. After enjoying almost every aspect of the game for like 2 years it started to annoy me more than it made me smile. Tried going away for few months, then coming back etc. Switched to Elders SCrolls Legends and got pretty good rank there. Tried magic the arena. Eternal card game. Legends of runeterra for like a year starting from beta.
No matter what, at some point, all I'm starting to see is that I lost/won due to rng impact. Yes, I'm talking here about drawing badly, poorly, facing counter decks. No matter I lost or won in such situations, It would have always left me with feeling of injustice and that neither I nor my opponent couldn't have done anything to prevent it.
Deep down inside Id love to don't give a shit about matchups like this and focus on skill testing games and so on. But even then I remind myself about pro players on twitch who 90% of the time excuse their losses or wins with stuff like "better hand, didn't draw, counter decks etc".
I feel like when I started my journey with ccgs, there was a ton of things to learn and there was no place for focusing on stuff like bad draws etc. I would just accept it as it is, just focusing on my misplays, animations, interactions. But once I get to know it pretty well all I'm starting to feel is a terrible fear of RNG. In my mind, it's just not acceptable to let things get out of my hands. I love to have control over things and when I feel there is nothing I can make to work it out I just leave it cause it slows me down. Here in card games I just feel like too much depend on RNG and despite great moments, there are too many that make me feel bad.
It just shows how people's minds differ from each other. I mean some people just accept shitty matchups and only focus on what's nice. Maybe somebody had been in such phase before and managed to overcome it?
If you dislike rng wich will be always a part of hearthstone and you like card games depend on your skills you should play poker? and pro players play a diffrent hearthstone game this is a fact. but i can really understand that hs bored you, maybe you should take a break of a couple of months. i did the same thing this year when i stoped playing for three months and when i return i found my fun back and enjoy playing again.
I think RNG is just something embedded in card games that will never go away. You either accept it is this way and play your best, or just don't mess with card games and play something else. It really is just a mental barrier that each person has to manage on their own.
Everyone has some bad luck in this game, it literally happens to everyone. You just queue up the next one and try again.
But if playing a game with elements of RNG makes you feel bad, then you might have more success with other types of games. The point of games is to make you happier.
I know you want to focus on the RNG aspect of the game, but what I'm actually seeing here is an intense fear of losing. Until you get over that, you will not find much joy in any competitive interaction. Without winners and losers, there is no competition.
Once you accept that playing the game means losing the game about half the time, you might not worry so much about why you lose a game, be it RNG, misplays, or simply a bad match-up. Next time you lose a game of Hearthstone, don't allow yourself to dwell on the negative feeling of defeat, and do not analyze why you lost. Instead, try to think about the positive aspects of the game you just played. Feel happy for your opponent if something really lucky happened for them. Appreciate a skillful play they made. Just think about some of the interesting card interactions you just saw, which are the reason we all play these games.
It will be healthy if you learn to release your grip. You can't control every aspect of the cards any more than you can control every aspect of the real world. In both cases, it makes more sense just to do your best and try to enjoy the ride. In the end, would you rather look back at all the fun you had, or all the control you had?

other genres that can be fun to play and compete at the same time, tbh in Hearthstone even if you do everything right you will loose because forced winrates, bad matchups, rng , etc... there's too much stuff out of your control that in the end it doesn't matter of much skill you have BUT what's most important is : do you have fun playing the game? if not is time to move on .
No matter what, at some point, all I'm starting to see is that I lost/won due to rng impact.
There is (and always will be) plenty of RNG involved in any card game but I promise you have won and lost a lot more due to skill and/or execution than you realize.

I guess that's it. It's just a terrible fear of losing and not being able to do anything about it. I think it's just time to come back to MMORPGs. I think I've played too many card games last few years.

It is especially frustrating because hearthstone is rigged. From your matchups, to your draw, after a while you come to see it no matter how many shills try to deny it.

It doesn't matter anyway. If you didn't care that much you wouldn't have analyzed it at that level. That's why I guess, if you can't acknowledge the fact, that there are certain things you can't do anything about, card games are prolly not meant for you.
It is especially frustrating because hearthstone is rigged. From your matchups, to your draw, after a while you come to see it no matter how many shills try to deny it.
What possible benefit could there be to rigging the game? To make you spend more money? If that were the case, a player with a complete collection would never experience streaks of bad match-ups, unfortunate draws, etc. As one of those players, I can promise you those things still happen. After becoming a whale, you do not suddenly see the happy flip-side of all these rigged encounters you are imagining.
You need to remember that there is always someone on the other side of the screen. For every one of your losses, someone else gets a win, and vice versa. In a rigged environment, someone would be coming out ahead. That's simply not happening.
Hearthstone does not need to cheat to make free players envy paying players. There is already plenty of simple psychology at play that takes care of that. If you really want to understand how the game is "rigged," take off your tinfoil hat and read up on those psychological tricks. Just Google "Psychology of free games", and you will find plenty of articles that explain why rigging match-ups and draws would be a HUGE waste of time and effort.

I really don't understand how someone denying or simply not believing in any sort of carnival style rigging is considered a "shill". Most people don't believe in game rigging because every time an angry child brings the subject up - and I mean EVERY time - they present absolutely no supporting evidence....none.
It's just a tired statement made by bitter, sad people who have grown up in an "everyone wins a trophy" society and who have never had someone in their life point out when they're wrong.
