I have distinguished 3 categories of players that are particularly annoying. It may not be the case for you but I am pretty sure many players feel the same way as I do. I know what some of you will say: "It's his turn and he does what he wants". Ok, so do I then right? I am not counting the rage quitters, it's fun to see them doing it.
- The roper: The most obvious one. Against a roper, I give him the benefit of the doubt the first time he ropes and I play my turn normally. The third time he does it, I rope him till the end even if he stops roping.
- The Trumper (one who refuses to concede). We all have met the Trumper. You have lethal on the board, he keeps on playing. Example: I play Hunter, he plays, let's say Rogue, and he has only 2 health left, he is dead next turn for sure. He doesn't heal, plays his turn using most of his time placing this minions, uses his spells, maybe draws cards. Other Trumpers will draw "looking for a solution" even if their mana left will not give them any way to survive. Here, I just take my time (aiming minions or his face, check my cards to show that I am not disconnected and I rope before giving the final blow. All this time, I guess he just watches, maybe goes to get a drink I don't care he has to wait for me to finish my turn too. Now I get it, the plausible excuse here would be, there's still a chance that you get disconnected or make a mistake blabla whatever but we know it's all BS.
The Faker: He has met a lot of inexperienced players who concede easily so he goes for it. He is most of the time an OTK/ combo player. He starts to play his combo cards and sometimes even says "well played", hoping that you will concede. They play in a very convincing way, fast and determined, and you only find out that it was all fake when they concede seeing that you are not buying it. No problem here, he is giving it a try. I still find it annoying though.
That just sounds like a great way to waste your own time. Personally I don't even consider who I'm playing, just a username on the screen. Whatever they do on their turn other than the cards they play has no bearing on me. I think you're reading far too much into the situation.
You've never encountered players that annoys you on HS because the way they play has no bearing on you. Good for you! Not the case for me and what seems to be a waste of time to you is not for me. Nothing else to add.
"See, there are three kinds of people: dicks, pussies and assholes. Pussies think everyone can get along and dicks just want to fuck all the time without thinking it through. But then you got your assholes. And all the assholes want is to shit all over everything. So pussies may get mad at dicks once in a while because, pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes! And if they didn't fuck the assholes, you know what you'd get? You'd get your dick and your pussy all covered in shit!"
Ropers are so common for me that I'm completely desensitized to it, so when I'm set to play Hearthstone I tend to always bring something to do or watch, which I only stop if I notice the opponent is the rare fast player. And I don't only mean people who rope on purpose, but also those that play infinite value decks so they always hit the rope due to the sheer amount of cards they play every turn, the Lackey Rogue meta from a year ago being a prime example of it. As for the other two 'types', those aren't really annoying players, they're just playing to their outs which is part of the game. I only ever do it if I'm one win away from a Ranked floor, but I understand players who do it every game.
What I dislike are players who only emote when they have a good hand, or when they realize that you have a terrible one. It's not exactly 'well played' that you drew the god hand first, is it.
I'll be "Trumper" if I'm trying to complete a quest. Play spells, Play minions, Take turns or draw cards. Other than that I'm usually doing something else while playing hearthstone anyway
The trumper and faker are mostly in your head. It's easy to rationalize their behaviour as something understandable. The faker might as well say "well played" because he knows he has lost and just wants to show what he was planning or play their cards which they don't get to do all that often. Because they enjoy playing their cards. Similarly the trumper might just enjoy playing the game and using their cards after turn 5.
You are only making your own life more miserable by interpreting their actions in a negative light.

So what you're saying is that you're just a roper? Sound like a you problem.
I don't see how what you call the trumper is a problem to be honest, if you have lethal just kill him, you lose maybe 30 seconds maximum because he didn't concede earlier. But instead you rope intentionaly, making you lose even more time.
I'll be honest, sometimes I don't concede just to see more of the opponent's deck if he is playing an unusual one (and maybe try to rebuild it and try it out). And if he doesn't want to show me his deck he can just kill me quickly to start the next game.

Sounds like you are one of these annoying players....your example of a person just finishing the game is not BM at all on their part, you are the rude one in that case by roping on purpose.
Many people are playing for quests (cast 10 holy spells) in which case that turn to cast a spell regardless of outcome is beneficial for them. Also each spell casts counts for achievements (cast 1,000 shadow spells, heal 100 times with priest, etc.) Others are playing for a specific achievement, not to win. Also some combo decks can be a turn away from loss and draw all the right pieces and win on that last turn..
The only ones I find annoying are people who shit talk / spam emotes (makes me squelch opponents if they say anything before the end), and ropers.
I almost always wait for the person to give the final blow. Partly because I've won a bunch of games with 1 health left all because I didn't give up, but also because in no-win scenarios like above the player has earned the right to do it, even if there was nothing I could have done based on cards etc.
When will people learn these stereotypes exist in all forms of competition and are perfectly valid tactics. If they're annoying you then they're probably working too.
I cannot tell you how many times I was in a losing position and won by playing out my final turn. Some opponents, even when they have a clear lethal kill, and the game is close enough, when I do not clearly have lethal damage; they still choose to concede first.
The trumper and faker may well be playing for the reasons you give but they ALSO be playing the way I explain it. The topic here is about how annoying they can be to me and how I HANDLE it. I also specified that not all players would feel the same way as me. I was clear on this and yet... I find your comment about me making my life more miserable quite funny by INTERPRETING their actions...isn't that what you are doing here? Or couldn't it just be in your head?

The Trumper is a good counter of the Faker btw.
wow never thought about it...I think you are right!

"I rope him till the end even if he stops roping." gotta love these people lol
So your answer to people who waste your time is to waste even more your own time, that looks pretty smart
The roper : I ignore him and do other stuff while he is roping, he is mildly annoying
The trumper : I ignore him and let him embrace his last hope, he is not annoying
The faker : I ignore him and let him misplay, he is not annoying
So what you're saying is that you're just a roper? Sound like a you problem.

This and I like to see what my opponents has, see reassess my plays. Figure it if there was a different line of play.
You dont learn from conceding instantly. I've had friend requests just to talk about playing it out, or to ask what was the last card in your hand.
Some people like this stuff, quite the opposite of annoying imo.
The only ones I find annoying are people who shit talk / spam emotes (makes me squelch opponents if they say anything before the end), and ropers.

Yogg take the wheel!
You know some people just want to finish their daily quests instead of conceding.
And some people are betting on a misplay or want to show you what cards they were holding.
