What i did is opening the first legendary on each set, there's a guaranteed leg in the first 10 packs of each set
I didnt find the miniset or adventures valuable cause I dont really get useful cards for the decks i can afford or they are cheap to craft, be sure to check hsreplay to see if it's really worth for the cards you need or it's better to spend dust if you buy 1 pack of barrens you get a good free (uncraftable and cant disenchant) legendary, Mankrik
Edit: I stop opening old sets packs once I get the first legendary
I don't wanna bash on Heartstone, but i feel MtG Arena is the better online card game (in more than one way).
I feel just the opposite. I think Magic's mana system is outdated and terrible, and I'm happy to bash on it all the live-long day.
Fans like to defend it as being an interesting aspect of the game's strategy, but I find it tedious. What's more, it creates far more games where the outcome is decided by RNG than anything that has ever existed in Hearthstone. (And please don't bring up all the ways you can fix your mana, because those are just Band-Aids on a broken, unfun system that needs to be scrapped.)
If they made a Magic 2.0 with a totally new mana system, I'd love to give it a try.

Speaking of the mana system. There was a finals match in the Pro tour of MTG where the guy who lost had to mulligan to 4 and couldn't find land. I 100% agree that it's outdated.

That is like saying the turn based system of Heartstone is outdated. It is part of the game since the beginning, just like the turn based in Hearthstone. And yes, sometimes you get 'mana screwed' in MtG, but it rarely happens. In Heartstone you can also get / draw only 5+ mana cost cards in the first few turns not able to play somethingturns 1 to 4.

Just.... no
I almost never lose to being mana screwed. If you do then you did build a bad deck.
And if you wanna talka mana; like Druids ramping and have 7+ mana at turn 5 or Warlocks cheating mana (paying health instead of mana) isn't exactly fun either.
And don't get me started on RNG. Owh, opponent Discovered lethal... In Heartstone there is a lot more Random.

You make it sounds it happens all the time, which isn't the case at all. Also there are people who won games after having to mulligan to like 5.

Dude, I've played the game ... a lot. Using decks built by pros. You can't tell me it didn't happen to me or that it was my deck's fault. Take off your rose-colored glasses. If you are saying it never happens to you, you are simply lying through your teeth.
"It has always been a part of the game" doesn't make it OK. It just means the game is old and bad.

Old yes, Bad no. There are some thing's that could be updated sure. But IMO MTG is still a fun game. It sure isn't bad. But it's not good either. WOTC doesn't care about their players like they used to and that combined with the price of cards drove me out after 10 years. Doesn't mean I don't like the game. I still read about it and keep up with it. It's just not for me anymore.

I did not say it never happens.. I said "it almost never happens". So please read before you make these accusations.
Also lands are core to MtG. You wanna get rid of the 5 colors as well?
I've played a ton of HS on and off since it launched, but have been gone for several years and just started getting back in and loving it. I used to love standard constructed, but now i'm pretty hard behind on cards, so I've been doing other modes. I've been playing a ton of battlegrounds mode, which I'm a big fan of. I've also been slowly working my way through the solo adventure content which has been fun.
I'm looking for advice on where to spend my time and gold. Of course its a game and I'm largely ftp and here to have fun, but also don't want to waste hours on not-so-fun dungeon runs with little-to-no rewards at the end.
Solo Adventures: The last solo content I played was... Frozen Throne, so there's a ton to catch up on. Which one of these is worth it (good times + class cards or packs that are a pain to get otherwise) and which are not?
What should I be doing with my gold? I figure I can (1) buy packs... (2) spend it on solo adventures (not dropping that cash), or (3) on arenas and duels. Is there a common conventional wisdom on this?
Thanks! See you in the tavern.
Most of the solo content is worth running at least once. I wouldn't say there's any that's actively bad. Boom Labs does get tedious though, I never finished it. The ones I found most replayable were Rastakhan, Monster Hunt, and the uh. I forget the name but the Uldum one with the plagues.
For gold, you should basically always be using it for Arena or Duels assuming you have the time. As long as you get at least 4 wins, you will basically always make a profit (ie turn 150 gold into a pack + 60 gold + 40 dust).
Ye man that's totally fair but in my opinion the game is going downhill in terms of quality, both literally in terms of bugs and with a meta that I find utterly unenjoyable. Additionally the monetisation has been getting more and more predatory so if you're already out I'd look for something else to invest my time into personally.

I'm not sure where this is coming from. Most of the recent new shop items are purely cosmetic. Optional purchases are the exact opposite of "predatory." Furthermore:
The Core set is friendlier to new players than the old system.
The Rewards Track is more generous than the old system, even without the Tavern Pass.
Old card backs and some portraits can be purchased with gold now, when they used to require cash.
Bundles are more frequent and are always as good a deal as they ever were.
What you can say is that the game's basic business model -- randomized packs -- is as predatory as ever, and the game remains expensive if you want to be able to build a variety of decks. But while it's definitely not cheap, it's a lot easier to have a large collection than it used to be.

You might want to play some arenas ! The standard meta is pretty crazy right now ! I just sneaked my way to legend to get the extra epic, and now I'm playing arenas, and it's quite refreshing, after the standard nonsense ! Arena seems well balanced, so far it's been a battle for the board with reborn and deathrattle minions, some lackeys, and some corrupted stuff ! I think that would be a good way to get your hands on some more gold, and cards !

I strongly suggest to try play some Battlegrounds, it's really fun when you get the idea how to play and it's free (you do not need to own any cards)

Something with Pot and Kettle...
That is still a blatant lie. I encourage you to start keeping track. I can go watch any MtG streamer right now and see it happen within a few games.
