Look, i don't really care if anyone says "oh, you're just crying about it" - having played HS for several years now, having gotten most (not all) of my classes to golden, having fun playing tempo/midrange/control... I think it's fair to say that the devs really screwed the pooch on this one.
1. You really can't be competitive against aggro decks with the long play decks. The only decks those will compete with are the other decks that run long and it all comes down to draw who will come out on top. Furthermore, the quest decks or other current top decks really only function best (with a couple exceptions) if you have all the parts. In the past, if you're a mostly free player and don't drop $$s on bundles, you were still able to find viable alternatives for most of the non core parts you needed. This expansion, it's so tight on the design and interactions, right now, unless you have everything you need in deck, you're always going to be stuck playing a one off and paying the price for doing so via rank.
2. F2P is likely dead now , until the meta can somehow be nerfed or corrected, the concept of a new player jumping in to the ranks simply can't happen without significant luck in pack opening. Hard to convince new players to join and play a game that's unwinnable at ranked if you make it unappealing to them. As i write this, i also realize that likely Trump is going to go with a new f2p series. At that same time, i also realize that unless he's completely out of his mind, there's no chance he's going to do it in a class other than mage or warlock. (editorial - who knows, i could be wrong on this, but why start a series and then show people how many games you lose in the ranked meta as it is?)
3. Blizzard, repeat offender. It's not like this is the first time they've done this. Blizzard has a long history of "let's float some batshit crazy idea and see if it works" (oh, you need references? - initial release shudderwock anyone?). In the end, it's their game and they will choose to release whatever content they want.
4. Hearthstone, aggro, and the move to toilet gaming. Blizzard's intent seemingly in speeding up the meta is a direct attempt to ensure most games will be done by turn 6-10. This means that most players (unless you play lock, demon hunter or some other class that is gifted with draw, you) will never see half of their deck during a normal game. Game tempo and playstyle change is indicating they're really pushing to make this more of a short attention span game/toilet game so that people can speed through matches and get on to their next game on the phone or tablet.
5. Maybe I'm just bitter? Could be, and to those who feel the need to piss all over my post, have fun, it won't hurt me in the least. Look, I'm already "just a little bit" mad that the pity counter on pack opening got to 35 in between legendary pulls the other day with my accumulated gold spending for packs. Maybe the reality is, I don't like to play aggro. A game designer/company should know that they're trying to cater to a particular game style (or possibly multiple game syles), and if they all of a sudden change how a game is played from one release to the next, there should be consequences.
6. Blizzard hasn't gotten the hint with Warcraft, why will they care with Hearthstone? Good question. Sub numbers have gone down over the years, why would they feel the need to address a release this bad of their card game? Maybe subscriber loss won't ever deter them, they have enough other games to tide them over.
Thanks for letting me rant (just a wee bit), i'm definitely going to back away from this game as i really don't need a game that no longer supports a fun game play environment for me when i could find something more productive to do in life outside or with my family. Until next expac is revealed, maybe...
Il be honest, only read the first part of the post, personaly il suggest to play quest rogue, its not aggro(retarded), its not otk(retarded), its just tempo, and it is fun and also a pretty goos deck.
I was tired of this game since the exp came out until i discovered this deck, maby should try out
I agree with you and I also hate the way the game is now. The counterplay to the majority of decks is "win quicker", the match-up pretty much decides the outcome before the cards are even played, and the vast vast majority of 6+ mana cards will never see meaningful play.
There should be a place for all deck types (aggro, control, tempo and combo) and a possibility to counter those deck types in an interactive way. Extremely polarised match-up's have always been bad for this game and imo it's in its worse state since launch (the only exception was classic freeze mage vs. control warrior)
I know "Face is the place" has become something of a meme, but it's currently the mantra for hearthstone.
