Mutanus (play when they complete the questline, guaranteed to hit against low skill players who don't play around mutanus with Font of Power, aka 90% of mages)
With that, some burst damage, and a damage hero power (hunter, DH, shadow priest, mage, rogue, hunter), you will have 80% win rate against mage.
Someone on another post said shadow priest was actually good against mage, and I'm thinking it might just be worth it to try it out. Put on some robes, shoot them with stuff.
And if you run into another class, there's a fair bit of removal in there, too.
MAYBE it was too early to call the meta solved, everyone??

It's that shadow priest thread that inspired me to build a shadow priest deck and I came back here to make my own thread after I've crushed 5 mages in a row ! But the thing is, it really is the 3 neutrals that completely shut down the mages, the rest of the deck was just subpar burst damage. I think the most useful priest card was actually Insight to easily tutor mutanus and the robes.
It felt really good to kill them without ever triggering the first Ice Barrier, and watching them kill their apexis blast minion with frost spells just to get their reward eaten by mutanus.
Of course some people will complain about the no minion thing, but I actually enjoy going this far to adapt my decks to a crazy meta
Mutanus don't work unless the quest mage is a clueless player, all the time I tech this the player complete the last step of the quest only when he can play the reward in the same turn, there is no window to play Mutanus.

Depends on the player and the game, sometimes they have no choice, there are ways to force your opponent to do it, if you threaten lethal for example, they might have to finish the quest even though they can't play the reward
By the way pherosizm while you're here, I've been working on a quest mage deck with Sorcerous Substitute and other minions cause you inspired me, i'm quite happy with the result, not a T1 deck obviously but very capable, are you interested in the deck list ?

Here you go. Not the best against other mages, please don't hold that against me :P Maybe I should include the 3 neutrals I talk about in this thread lol what was I even thinking

I've even taken your advice and thrown in dungar and mutanus. I think it would play a little more controlly, which is what I prefer. But the end game is still to shoot your opponent with stuff. Ehh, it's unavoidable I guess. That's still how you win a game.
I just remembered that Kazakus exists, too. Being able to summon lifesteal golems could make this even better for surviving until you can play more minions. Maybe?
If you play as Paladin and go first, you MUST play Oh My Yog! The next turn Mage or Warlock will try to play their quest and be greeted with a surprise. Did this twice already against warlock and they instantly conceded lol.

Funny, all my opponents play font of power. They also all play dev. missiles when i tech robes, and obviously the 3 damage combo when i tech watchtowers. But since i tech robes i barely see mages, but a shit tons of warriors. Guess what happens when i remvoe robes from my deck again...
Please note, i havnt payed a penny since years, so my matchmaker "experience" might differ with others.

Flightmaster Dungar (play on curve for damage, or healing if needed later on)
Robes of Protection (play on curve, don't play any minion unless this is on board, they can only clear it with spell damage Fire Sale, Devolving Missiles or lucky discover)
Mutanus (play when they complete the questline, guaranteed to hit against low skill players who don't play around mutanus with Font of Power, aka 90% of mages)

Class suggestions that you may not have considered include Imprisoned Antaen, Bearshark, Oh My Yogg!, Counterspell, Shenanigans, Cloak of Shadows, Tickatus, Altar of Fire, Felsoul Jailer, Psyfiend, Void Shard
Enjoy the easy climb while quest mage is overplayed, it won't last forever !
Great post. Thanks for that.

I hope this works for you and I'm not just a lucky clueless person
this gaslighting is sad

I'm barely seeing any mages now at about rank 2k legend, but plenty of buff palas and face hunters.
The meta is regulating itself, and once those decks take over then it will shift hopefully to more tanky control decks to outlast the face rush.
Heck yes I am :)

When Sorcerous Substitute get the Aegwynn buff that's doubled by the way
Very nice. I've gone back and updated my original spell damage quest mage and now it looks like this:

Will need to test it out more and make tweaks.
Warlock is broken as hell
Face Hunter is good against Quest mage too.
Can’t be used in shadow but having a bit of success with Rally! priest, especially with Voidtouched Attendant some buffs and Nerubian Egg.
Thanks for these spicy techs. I'll be definitely trying the cloak on my pirate warrior deck.
Why u hav to be mad? is only card gaem.
I have already created deck yesterday aimed at these decks in wild with Warrior. Just some cherry for you.
I also put every card that messes peoples HP. It is a fun deck and actually I had better fun against them.
