I personally hate this set I dislike all of the new quests because they ether suck or are extremely i fun to play against the warlock quest allows you to your your hero into minions and damage your opponent which is not fun when you are in the receiving end
I'd say Team 5 finally broke the game. Over the past 2-3 years damage output has tripled, but max HP is still the same. There's no "safe zone" anymore, you can be 30 and still die on turn 7. On top of that, most of the damage comes from hand, so minion combat is pretty much redundant.
The worst is, that you can't just change 2 or 3 cards to fix it. At this point their whole design is flawed and honestly, I believe this will be the breaking point for Hearthstone, where many people will just move on, leaving it behind. I'm not sure if the game will survive this.

Here we go: Hearthstone's dead.............again!
Not dead, "only" broken. And this time is different, since current (pre)meta is full of uninteractive decks, OTK'ing each other before turn 10 and playing all the damage from hand. Thing is though, that maybe it's not a balance issue, but a new reality for the game which was fully intended by the designers? If that's the case, some people may just leave it for good.
All you cry babies about "this game is too fast!" etc etc... you do realize this is primarily a mobile game right? They don't want people sitting on their phones for 30 minutes playing control. They want people to win fast to keep that dopamine hit constant. This is a business.
I dont really like 30 minute game either, but I would like at least 10 minutes so I can play some of my cards and make some impactful decisions, like should I save this removal for bigger minion or can I play it, not wondering if I will die if I have less than 20 HP at any time.

i'll tell you how to fix it: increase starting health to 40 - boom! suddenly the game extends from turn 5 aggro lethal or turn 6 OTK lethal to an actually healthy game where minions and board interactions matter again. but they'll never ever do this, because fuck a healthy game, it makes way more money to get mobile players that only have an attention span of 3 minutes to buy tons of packs for the latest and greatest degenerate broken face deck.
Agreed completely. There are definitely some balance changes to be made, but that is pretty much a constant. Folks would do well to remember, that there will literally always be cards and decks outperforming a majority of others, and banning those cards just elevates the next best cards to "broken" status.
I'll never forget the time someone seriously advocated for a nerf to chillwind yeti. He wrote this whole diatribe about how Innervate plus the four cost was horribly broken, and how the druid hero power added the extra point to get past Sen'jin Shieldmaster while still having a living yeti, at which point the game was essentially over.
Inevitably, there will be tweeks to rogue and mage, possibly hunter as well though I'm not convinced there yet. While we wait, this is a meta where at least seven decks have a serious chance at high legend. There have been far worse lacks of deck diversity in the past.
It isn’t that decks are overpowered that’s the problem though. It’s the fact that every deck is either hyper aggro or some sort of combo deck that has close to unlimited removal. This makes playing midrange or control decks nearly impossible as midrange just immediately loses to the hyper aggro decks and control loses to the combo decks.
I just find the game to be so mindless now. Every single deck just seems to rely on its draw to see whether it wins or loses. There was a time when you’d have to play around or anticipate what your opponent was going to do or save cards for certain scenarios. That’s not the case anymore. Every deck just focuses on smashing their opponent in the face or drawing to a combo. The combo decks have so much cheap removal that they never need to worry about saving it because they have so much more. I genuinely cannot remember the last time I felt like I was fighting for board in a non-arena game.
It’s not just this expansion. It’s been heading this way for a long time. Scholomance and Darkmoon Faire both had some cards that were awful for the game imo but Forged in the Barrens was a genuinely horrible expansion and this one seems even worse. Blizzard seems to want this to be the direction that the game is heading though. I’m not really sure why.
The only new deck I've found so far that can survive the onslaught of removal and aggro (sometimes), fights for the board in a fairly oldschool way and can potentially kill the new range of combo decks before they go off like a mid-range deck needs to is divine shield paladin. The deck kinda builds itself, but it isn't cheap, you need a lot of legendaries. There is elemental shaman of course as well, that builds like a midrange deck, but in reality plays out like an aggro deck.
There is probably more...new meta and all that. But every other midrange deck i've tried mixing in what seem like decent new cards on paper can't fight for the board well enough to get in chip damage against quest decks.
Yeah, I guess Paladin is a little slower than the other non combo decks, but unfortunately it still has mechanics that I find to be frustrating to play against. Handbuffing is another thing I find extremely irritating when it’s overpowered as again, it’s completely non-interactive.
If I were to sum up my complaints about Hearthstone in it’s current form, it would be that. Non-interactive.
All you cry babies about "this game is too fast!" etc etc... you do realize this is primarily a mobile game right? They don't want people sitting on their phones for 30 minutes playing control. They want people to win fast to keep that dopamine hit constant. This is a business.
Then they should just delete Priest class and stop printing 6+ mana cards, there is no point to print any late-game strategy or interactive minion cards built for Control decks. Let just make the game filled with Aggro decks and OTK die-fast decks because the ultimate goal is to not let the opponent interact and win the game in less than 5 minutes.

I totally agree with you. Power creep is out of control these days.

well... exactly that was their approach with this expansion, wasn't it? ;) probably like 90% of games end before turn 10 and priest has a winrate of 36% in standard, 10% less than any other class.

There’s way more to it than that now. There’re too many ridiculous draw cards and piss easy OTKs in the game for that to work. All it would do is weaken aggro decks.
There’re literally tens of cards that are dreadfully designed and have no business being in the game. Like an above poster mentioned, it’s really unlikely that the meta will ever return to the way it was even two or three years ago because it would require a hard reset… which incidentally Blizzard actually did four months ago and somehow made it even worse than ever.

you are probably right. when they first started introducing a big amount of mana cheating cards a few years ago the game completely broke for a while, and they had to do tons of nerfs. but instead of learning their lesson, they seem detemined to bring even more ridiculous mana cheating cards every single new expansion. it's beyond frustrating to see how they've been increasing the tempo of card power creep over the last few expansions.
Meta is really okay for me so far, I've been messing around with the demon hunter quest and I modified it a lot I ended up putting it in an OTK list, I usually have quest finished by turn 6, otk by 7~8 if I don't get bursted down by a mage, I mean even mages let you play cards now instead of spending 2 minutes in their turn refilling their mana, quest kinda changes their priorities which gives me time, Rogue quest wasn't too bad of a matchup for me, managed to survive till I drew my whole deck (turn 9) and won the game. Didn't really see more than these 2, oh and a paladin, kinda gave me a feeling that paladin needs a slight buff.
This meta is truly shocking. The new quests although fun for now, create so many dead-games and in such a reliable way that it really makes you question if this game's worth your time anymore. Many others have mentioned how repetitive the game is with the new quests, and I agree.
So the op enjoys a meta where you don’t care what card your opponent plays, there is no interaction at all whatsoever and you only focus on completing a quest in order to otk… you may as well play against a bot rather than an actual player as the experience is exactly the same
Claiming that eg quest warlock is uninteractive is not entirely true, since you can interact with it by playing something faster. They completely fold to burst. Yeah, it’s a very Bad matchup for a slow deck that targets aggro or is greedy. As is any otk deck. You have to accept that there are good and bad matchups. And that the meta is fast. It is always fast, because aggro decks are cheap, always viable and a fast way to climb. People will start playing more aggressive stuff to punish quests, quests will get less common and you can get your minion trading with face Hunter and handbuff paladin. Your control decks will work, and whenever the meta gets greedy, quests will get better.
besides, there will be some nerfs for sure, which I never claimed to be unnecessary. But i do not think that the game is unfun right now. People are playing the flashy stuff right now, let’s see what happens when the dust settles next week and more people will stop experimenting and playing more refined and more aggressive decks. Then we will get data and know what actually is nerfworthy
the title btw was just for provoking no personal Offense

Cool OP, glad you have fun.
I am also glad that it seems that it is more than the vocal minority thinking it's the biggest shit we have seen in this game so far.

The only people excited about this meta are people playing quest mage and quest lock. You're not fooling anyone lool
This isn’t solitaire, you can’t emote in solitaire.
