Im the first to complain when I think an expansion looks bad, so let me be the first to say this one looks really good.
The cards look very creative. They have given us some things to play with that arent midrange for a change.
If they print some good neutral taunt/heals like kartuk defender we might have a decent meta where all types of decks can flourish.
Ive basically sat out the last entire season preferring duels to standard, but Im really liking what they are showing so far. I might get sucked back into playing standard.
Heck, I might even decide to pre order, that is something Ive never done.
Hopefully it just isnt a case where they showed all the good stuff up front.
Actually I don't like current situation of the game and where it goes. With every expansion, cards became more and more powerful(especially in 1-2 years). Power creep is real for Hearthstone. Yeah, there were always very powerful and broken cards in different times but they were limited but now the majority of cards are very powerful and people aren't even using hero powers as much as before.
Power creep is unplesant and even dangerous for card games. As an old competitive Yugioh player, I can say that if this power creep continue, playing Hearthstone won't be fun. Power creep ruined whole Yugioh and it looks like Hearthstone is the next.
Actually differentiating the standard format is a good way to keep game fresh, balanced and prevent power creep but the way Blizzard chose with new cards is wrong I think.
A majority of the card got me into theorycraft since the beginning of the reveal which is very good because previous release got me bored quickly and even managed to make me take a break.
I mostly play Warlock with some rogue or druid to change the mood. But the Paly quest get me really excited to try a Silverhand deck with 20+ card that cost 1.
Shaman quest feel... OP?!? Might be left over trauma from the previous Shaman quest with "Double battlecry"....

But with rotating Core Set each year, powercreep is much less a problem. Everything rotate now so they can fix thing much faster than before

Exactly. In fact, the term "power creep" is almost meaningless in an environment where the base power level gets reset each year.

Believe it or not the one card that got me hyped is the guy that gives me a coin each time i play him. With Sonya, shark and some broom i can get as many coins as posible for combos in given time.
It's up there with the last one imo, still not quite Darkmoon Faire, Old Gods or Saviors of Uldum, fortunately it will be completed by the best one this year following up (if indeed Hero cards are coming back) so I actually advise to try hold on to your Dust for the third expansion, in case you want lots of Golden Herocards. (potentially Arthas as Deathknight etc)
Will probably just craft two golden (Shaman + Paladin) quests and mostly take the Neutral legendaries regularly, as they "only" draw cards, and a bit less exciting this time, although we'll see if Varian and Cornelius are actually worth crafting at all, maybe they don't even make it Meta, so then you really just want to pull them from packs and not craft them manually.
As always Tavern pass is kind of a Must, if you struggle affording Bundles.
The memes are going to be off the chart for this expansion. So many wacky cards. Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing I guess is down to personal taste.
As an Wild player myself, this expansion certainly brings new winds into the game. After every expansion after Knights of Frozen Throne, the game looks exactly the same throughout any changes. Started from last year, they proposed new plans, game modes, and class but for me the core concepts hasn't been changed ever since. The very definition of winning is just by taking down ur opponent to 0, or prevent them to do so by taking advantages of deckbuilding and powercreeps, especially in Wild where counterplays are close to nothing but tech cards. Quest in Un'goro certainly made the game more interesting in its time, with the introduction of a wide variety of archetypes as how different we could perceive the game. Quest Rogue, Warrior, and Mage were certainly one of these. This year, the introduction of core set was really interesting, as it makes a part of the game updated throughout the year. Also, apart from regular updates, they buffed cards, made small expansions, and achievements and progression, which make the game less boring as it were 2-3 years ago. The quest in this expansion arguably harder to complete than in Un'goro, but the rewards would normally win you the game on its own, again, change the way we normally play the game. Cards are creative, less repetitive, making powercreep less of a problem. Overall some success. Not a great success because new winds are new winds and core concepts are still core concepts.
As a company, they know that selling cards on its own won't make them more money, so they developed new areas, getting less focused on the cards, which make more room for experimenting new stuff. That takes them about 5 years to realize that, which was also right after Ben Brode and other team 5 members moved out of Blizzard.
I agree with you on the point about neutral taunts and healing. With this meta having so much face damage and aggro it kills me that there arent any tools to defend yourself unless you choose a class dedicated to healing or armor. However, with all the insane new cards that got previewed so far i genuinely can’t tell you what’s going to be relevant or not
I definitely agree. The questlines and special weapons are giving me Kobolds and Ungoro vibes which are two of my favourite expansions. With hero cards rumoured to be coming next expansion as well, it will be like one of my favourite periods of hearthstone (Kobolds, Ungoro and Knights of the Frozen Throne). Lots of creative design allowing different archetypes as well. I am honestly super hyped for this expansion which is something I haven't felt in a long time.

Bring on the powercreep, if Blizzard won't nerf Nzoth in Wild, then I would prefer having new OP cards to deal with that OP card.
Next expansion coming soon, as we know now that they don't thoroughly test the cards, so expect OP decks in the beginning and nerfs coming a few weeks after. That's why I will not craft anything, specially Legendary cards before the meta settles down. That could take a couple of weeks. I don't want to make the same mistake of crafting (sometimes in gold) the Legendary "I need" which end up just being ok or useless or just going in a meta deck that doesn't fit my style of play. Example: Cornelius Roame right now I believe this card will be and auto-include in many decks. I am really tempted to craft it if I don't unpack....we'll see.

Why not just play Umbral Skulker or Licensed Adventurer ? They have deck building restrictions but a least you don't give coins to your opponent

Elwynn Boar... just WOW!!!! I love him already.
And obviously I have been rolling Flightmaster Dungar in my Warlock deck since I got him and he will never leave it.
But with rotating Core Set each year, powercreep is much less a problem. Everything rotate now so they can fix thing much faster than before
no tradeable is just basically a trash version weaker mechanic
the only way tradeable works is having them as TECH cards apart from that it's virtually pointless

I like everything I've seen so far. It's shaping up to be a very interesting set.
Should be fun.

If you don't powercreep then why not just reprint a boring exp like the ones of the year of the crow 😴
Bring on the powercreep, if Blizzard won't nerf Nzoth in Wild, then I would prefer having new OP cards to deal with that OP card.
The big twist with the 3rd expansion is Alterac Valley will be a celebratory Winter Olympics style theme and no bloodshed.

Creative YES!
but the powercreep in this expansion is rly scary
