So recently I made an EU account on an alt blizz account (in an attempt to prevent mmr from my primary account from influencing matchmaking) primarily out of boredom and out of curiosity regarding what the beginner ranks are like nowadays. Initially, when I started queing at rank 40, I found that the decks and players I ran into were fairly in line with what I expected. That is to say, the decks generally consisted of random core/basic cards and the players weren't particularly skilled. However, as I got closer to rank 30 I noticed that I was beginning to consistently run into tier 1 standard netdecks and extremely sweaty players.
So I guess my question, which is addressed to anyone on this forum who is relatively new to the game (or anyone who has decided to start an account in a new region on a whim) and still progressing through the training ranks, so to speak, is this: is this your experience as well? Do you find yourself consistently queing into tryhards with tier 1 netdecks at ranks that are ostensibly supposed to provide a relatively gentle introduction to the ranked ladder? And if so, do you find this discouraging, or do you simply resolve to make a tier 1 deck of your own?
I did the same. Alt account for Mrgle shaman skin. There was a few noobs but I was surprised at all the good/free cards I got. Tons of quests and dust and gold. Was able to make a pretty good standard mage deck with what I got. Also in the matches you could tell when another player was also experienced. The tempo and card choices.
Mage made it easier to do a f2p deck because the discover mechanic makes it so you can find a lot of cards that would be missing from your collection. But yeah the intro experience is way easier now than in the past. As for net decking it'll ways be around
Idk man, for me it feels more difficult than it was when I did this like a year ago. Granted the deck I tried with now is terrible and I just threw random stuff in, but it feels like there are more people queing with netdecks than it did before. I'll have to try again with a semi decent decklist and see if anything changes. Rn I'm just queing hunter with random minions.
I think blizzard changed the match making system to allow for all kinds of players, regardless of rank. Once you win a few games in apprentice, you will be matched against players from the regular ranking systems. Otherwise you would constantly play against the same opponents (which is very annoying), or have extreme long wait times (which might make the game unplayable). This is also the reason we don't see the ranks of opponents anymore, until legend.

Thanks for bringing this up. I had the idea this might be happening as well, so I sent a friend request to everyone I matched up against. Not many accepted, but the few that did were all in the apprentice ranks. Some were admittedly much further along than me, but I attribute that largely to some of the win streaks I went on and the consequent increase in mmr. I think there are still plenty of people in these initial ranks for whatever reason, or at least I would propose that is the case where I tested this out in EU.
I would recommend Trump's very last F2P saga, it was really pain in the ass to watch all those Tier1 decks he fought between Apprentice ranks 40-1.
I was about to start alt. account too, but no thanks :/
Yeah man it's rough. It's sad to see that this is the introduction people get to HS now. I imagine quite a few people probably quit after running into all these p2w people with their tier 1 decks all the time at ranks where you're just supposed to be having fun and learning the ropes. Might as well just forego the training ranks entirely and throw them onto ladder, it's essentially the same thing.

The problem is, you miss many rewards then. But climbing through as true F2P can be not worhty anyway. IDK, if you skip it all you can have like one or 2 bonus stars? Try to hit D5 with that to get those cool rewards :)
Since yesterdays theres a tournament in spain that consist on reaching top leyend with a new f2p account, maby thats why you are founding tryhards in those ranks

This would explain it if so many of the decks in question weren't decks that you need time and/or money to craft.

Honestly I didn't do it for a skin or rewards on an alt or anything like that, I was just curious about what the training ranks were like nowadays. I definitely wouldn't spend money on an alt since my main is essentially F2P anyway. It just struck me as crazy how many people are going full sweat with tier 1 netdecks at ranks that don't seem to matter and that are intended to introduce new players to the game.
I had the same experience with my alt account. In the beginning I had a 90% win rate with an aggressive DH build I threw together just to try and climb quickly.
After 50 games or so I started getting run over by tier 1 decks and was confused as to how a beginner could craft such decks. The reality is you're building an mmr right from the beginning. With a great win rate, matchmaking starts to put you against opponents of the same mmr regardless of rank. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was playing against diamond ranks. Once you get through the apprentice ranks you're awarded a star bonus, just as you are at the start of each month. I was given a 10 star bonus which is the moment I realized why I had been facing such stiff competition.

I don't think my winrate was quite that high, but this is an interesting/troubling proposal. Are you certain that the people you were queing into when you were climbing through the apprentice ranks were in diamond? The people that accepted my friend requests were all also in the apprentice ranks, but it's possible that some of the people that didn't accept were diamond.
