Hello there. I've stopped playing Hearthstone shortly after 'Goblins and Gnomes' got released because I could no longer keep my decks up to date due to limited free time, being f2p and sucking at Arena. And so, as a returning player, I have some questions related to the upcoming mode.
Is there a need to play other formats if I am only aiming to play Classic and maybe some casual modes like Battlegrounds? I've read somewhere that you need to unlock Classic, but the conditions are easy to achieve. Aside from that, I am not planning to touch neither Standard nor Wild for a while. Mobdro
Is it fine to create a fresh account to play Classic? Because I haven't touched the game for years, I believe starting from scratch to be the best approach. How ever, I wonder if there'd be enough casual players without strong meta decks at ranks 25-15 to play against. VidMate
Is there going to be a reliable way to obtain Classic cards? I've read that many of the Classic pack rewards are going to be replaced in the new patch, so I am wondering if dusting the cards from the new packs would be sufficient to 'replace' Classic ones.
Classic format unlocks when you unlock Wild - you have to complete the tutorial, grind the "new player ranks" until you hit Bronze 10 of the regular ladder, then craft a Wild card, buy a Wild pack, or play a Wild adventure.
HS has changed a lot over the years - if you only want to play Classic, you don't have to play anything else. There are a few Weekly Quests that require that you play Battlegrounds, Arena, etc, but you can simply re-roll them.
It's fine to start a new account. However - a couple members of the dev team have tweeted that they don't know what the future holds for Classic, and it's possible that old content will eventually be added (Naxxramas, GvG, etc . . .) If you already have Naxx and GvG on your old account, you might want to simply start playing from that account again. As far as meta-decks go - Zoo only runs Basics, Commons and Rares. It's the best place to start grinding as you build up your collection.
You will always be able to purchase Classic packs with gold - otherwise, the game will no longer be rewarding players with Classic packs. If you dust all the free non-Classic packs the game hands out, you'll certainly be able to craft a lot of the playable cards from the Classic set. The game no longer offers duplicate copies of cards in packs - once you have two copies of a card in your collection, you will never open it in a pack until you have all other cards at that rarity (for example - if you already have two copies of the Hunter Rare, Eaglehorn bow, you won't receive another copy of Eaglehorn bow in any of your packs until you have every other available rare card in the set - the same goes for Commons, Epics and Legendaries.)
