Well, firstly, believing that the way you enjoy doing something is the only acceptable way to enjoy it is unproductive, toxic, and has proven to do nothing for you except make you upset. Other people aren't wrong for enjoying other things than you. Other people in the thread have already listed multiple reasons, all of which are valid, why people might play the game differently.
You're not a superior person because you like to build decks alone rather than use other available resources for help. You've decided, because you like to feel superior to other people, that you MUST be right, and you're SO much better than other people.
"Is it fun to copy decks from a website" - No, but neither is sitting there staring at my collection trying to figure out the final 1 or 2 cards to put in my deck. Deckbuilding is a fraction of what makes this game what it is. Not everybody has hours to kill tinkering with the most minute features of their decks. I've taken some excellent decks from here. And I've tuned them according to my personal taste over time. I'm not a deck builder in Hearthstone, and being one wouldn't make me a better person/better at this game.
"Is it fun to not put any thoughts into the cards that are in your deck?" - What? What kind of question is this? This is literally just a re-shaped version of the last question.
"Is it fun to play the same deck for more than a couple of years?" - Probably. You say it yourself that people find pleasure in different things. People DO enjoy different things. I enjoy playing Hunter, and various Hunter decks. I've been experimenting with different versions of Spell Hunter since it came out, and I haven't gotten bored of it. Seems a bit contradictory to the whole "homebrew galaxy brain" mentality to be opposed to spending time fine-tuning a deck/archetype.
You make it extremely obvious that this is a play for social superiority when you make up a fictional person saying "new secrets are better" and then owning them by implying their an idiot and telling them to "get back to netdecking". Either admit that you just want to feel like you're some superior, galaxy brain Hearthstone player - or realize that this toxic superiority complex has only served to make you upset at total strangers and make yourself look like a complete elitist jerk.
Sorry if the tone of this post is a little aggressive, I try to be nice on here but this kind of stuff really gets me mad.
If you're going against the same decks over and over again, shouldn't that allow you to craft the perfect counter to those decks and win 80% of the time?
Since you're such a master deckbuilder and all.
Sounds less like an issue with netdecking, and more like an issue with you wanting to play suboptimal decks and losing a lot because they're bad.
First of all, I've never said that it's wrong to netdeck. I only questioned how much enjoyment is there in playing a deck that you have no part of making.(except for copying it)
Secondly, I've said that I know people find pleasure in different ways, but playing exactly the same thing for years? There's a nice Far Cry quote about that.
Thirdly, I've never said I'm a superior person or a great deck maker.
Fourthly, if it takes 1-2 hours just to build a deck then it only shows that you never build one before. You first think of a concept, then locate the cards that help you accomplish that concept and after that you may include tech cards depending on the meta. And the most important part is playing the deck.
Fifthly, the difference between the questions - copying a deck and not putting any thoughts into the cards you use is as follows. I copied a deck and used it, because it allowed me to win more. I don't know why I play this card in my deck but the website had it so it must be good.
Sixtly, I'm happy that you play your own decks.
And lastly, what superiority? The superior one is the one who wins. And I don't care that much about winning. I only care about having fun. But when even casual is filled with tier 1 net decks it's just kinda funny and sad.
I do use websites to find a fun new deck concept. I agree with that whole statement. But I never said that I am superior or my way of playing is the only fun way.
In terms of the whole not having certain cards or such stuff. I also agree and I know about that part of the game as well.
Now why I use the term netdeck. To save your time. Since you haven't got any time to spare to read or write - using a deck from a website.
And it's funny how you consider that I have a ton of time to make decks while you have to take care of your family, friends etc. Just so you know it does not take a ton of time to make a decent deck. If you know what you are building. And I also have family, friends and etc. to take care of , but hey.
First of all, I've never said that it's wrong to netdeck. I only questioned how much enjoyment is there in playing a deck that you have no part of making.(except for copying it)

If I'm wrong about you then I'm happy, but a lot of what I was talking about was implicit in the OP. Discussion points like this only come up when people are trying to demonstrate some sort of social superiority - they want to feel morally/intellectually superior to their peers (fellow HS players). "Homebrewer Master Race" discussions are often rooted in the desire to feel superior to people who aren't homebrewers, "netdeckers".
But hey, if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I was just responding to what I read into your post. If there was nothing there, I'm sorry. But that Far Cry quote would only apply if people were expecting different results from playing the same deck over time - psychologically the opposite of that is what we'd assume from the behavior. They play the same deck (ex. Secret Mage) over years and years because they expect the same results, i.e. winning a lot of games in Wild Ladder.
We do share a grievance with people playing tier 1 decks in casual. Casual is where I play my silly lists like Galvadon Paladin and it does feel bad to match up against APM Mage when I'm supposed to be relaxed. But what I learned on here when I proposed my grievances about it is this: if it's a casual match against a deck you don't wanna see (or if somebody is roping you in casual queue), just concede.
All games are a waste of time, but with the benefit of taking a break from reality.
I play this one because it is in front of me, I am familiar with it, and is satisfactory. I like the fact that it can be free to play if you do it right, which causes me to be a bit appreciative that I largely am a freeloader yet have every Tier 1 or Tier 2 deck I want.
For others, there preferred waste of time might be League of Legends or Fortnite or Artifact (hehe) -- or watching cable.
I believe that you should ask this question to yourself first of all? May be take a sheet of paper and write down pros and cons, and if cons outweight pros... Take a break, or look for other card games, if the making of thr deck is what brings you joy than you won't be bothered by art-style and what not. But I would advise you to pick some single-player game, from what Iunderstood you main problem lies in fact that you can't control the type of opponent you face. "Man, would it be fun to win against mage with this deck?" But you don't get a mage, but 10 paladins in a row (this is just an example). Try Slay the spire, you can deck build to your hear content, and you can somewhat tweak the difficulty of the game. Or pick up civ 6 for example. In either case, if you don't have fun you need to change something, and you can't change what other people do, you can only change the way you look at it.
I think you're confusing a word in the thread title.
"Honestly I don't understand why peopleI play this game anymore."
Fixed that for you. But more importantly, people play this game because they enjoy it. Some play it because they hate it and enjoy screaming into the void on sites like these thinking people care what they say. There are lots of reasons why people play this game. That said, it's a game, and if you don't enjoy it, and don't feel the need to scream into the void about it, perhaps you should find a game you do enjoy. After all, gaming should be a fun experience.

There is no superior "waste of time" to another.
I mean you're not entirely wrong, sure there are better things one could do with their time. But that doesn't equal gaming to being a waste of time as a hobby. If I pick up my guitar and play it for an hour instead, is that a waste of time? We really need some clarification here as to what you deem not to be a waste of time and why.

I also kind of agree with Toribasher here, but I get your point, too.
The difference between HS and playing guitar is that HS could just close for reasons beyond your control tomorrow and then all your HS skills don't matter anymore (unless, of course, you learned anything else from the game). It's a bit more unlikely that your guitar gets destroyed by something beyond your control and even if so, you can still replace it.
Not to mention, guitars are a lot more attractive to most women:)
But what people consider a waste of time is rather subjective. There are several hobbies out there that I would consider a waste of time, but people have even made millions of dollars with exactly that.
I can agree with you that people who netdeck and then proceed to play casual are clowns. I mean, they play that deck to win, right? Then why not take it to the ladder, where winning means something? I'm just trying to enjoy my half decent homebrew deck against someone else's half decent homebrew deck. T^T
I used to enjoy deck building, but I just doesn't have the same time anymore which makes it easier to just netdeck something for my quests - mainly play arena, battleground and duels anyway
I don't think copying decklists is an issue at all, the real problem comes in when a single deck is on a power level of its own, above everything else. When it's so strong that it's not possible to counter. Thinking back to Jade Druid era, literally 80% of people I queued up against played the same list and it could not be defeated. (I mean sure it could, I had like 30-ish % winrate on better days.) This is, however, not the players' fault, and I don't think it's fair to criticize someone for wanting to win in a game where the concept of winning is present. It's the developer's job to balance the meta enough so that no one deck pushes out everything else, and in that regard I think we're in a pretty damn decent spot right now. Sure there's a lot of aggro, but aggro is cheap and efficient, so it will definitely stick around.
That said, I guess it would be nice to have a mode purely for playing your own crazy stuff, but it's just not possible, mostly because it's really hard to define "experimental" and "meta" decks. And even if it were possible, the discrepancy between the power levels of those "experimental" decks is just huge. For instance, my N'zoth - Mecha'thun - Explosive Sheep - Unstable Ghoul - Ticking Abomination - Moonfire OTK Druid literally loses to the expert mage deck in practice mode 50% of the time, and that's totally fine, the point is not to win. I still sometimes queue with it on the safe ranks, and when I get to pull it off every 20 games or so, it blows my mind (and hopefully the opponent's mind as well).

You can experiment, you just don't want to. It's not hearthstone's fault.

You can't make the same cure to all types of disease...
What I mean is that you can't make a deck that counters everything.
And I can make any deck that I want. It's not an issue. I've been playing since open beta and I'm f2p. So suboptimal decks is not the reason...

Not all people have to be like you, you know. Let them enjoy what they like. It's just a game, after all. Don't be so serious.
