This might be a bit of a rant thread, but whatever. I've been trying to complete most of the Barrens achievements recently since I'm almost lvl 100 and I really wanna get there. I've 'speedran' the easy ones and tried some of the hard ones, like 5th generation raptor or starting turns with caravans. And there's where I'm starting to get triggered.
I queue into a game. I play trash like Hog Rancher, Burning Blade Acolyte, Sigils, Caravans, etc. I trigger my own Raptors with spells. I never hit face even if I can. Just doing everything to show that I'm just here doing an achievement and you can take a free win.
But it seems like this never works. People just rush face and kill me as soon as they can. I know some people don't have too much time and need to move on to the next game, and I understand that. But after this happening like 50 times in a row, I'm starting to feel something's wrong. Do people really not see what I'm doing? I remember that one time when I queued into a different achievement hunter, instantly realizing what they were doing when they played Caravan into Hog Rancher, and even tried to help them. After the game, they said thanks and conceded. It was just so obvious from the start that they were doing achievements.
I think it's totally fair that they don't know or don't care about your achievements. It's obvious to you, but not to everyone.
When my opponent makes a weird play I just think they misplayed and move on I don't really try to understand his reasoning or what obscure achievement he might have been trying to complete, or is he a new player or is he just a veteran meming around.
And it's ladder, it counts towards end of the month rewards and golden portraits. Life is short, people will and should take any win they can get, if you AFK or misplay or try to complete achievements isn't and shouldn't be your opponent's problem. If they realize what you are doing and are in the mood of helping you, very good. If they're not, it's fine.
I would personally do it on rank floors, but not any other rank. Then again, I probably won't realize what you're doing and just enjoy the free win.
No, I think a better solution would just be to let us complete achievements in casual, PVE and against friends. Forcing people to lose games on ladder to complete achievements sounds idiotic.

If achieves could be completed against friends, everyone could just make an alt account and get all the achievements against their alt. It would completely negate the point of having them in the first place.
When I had to go over 100 games of fatigue before someone let me get such a simple achievement as "kill an opponent with fatigue" without conceding first, I now actively try to prevent any and all achievement progress.
Sorry, I've been hurt too many times.

Helpful Clarification on Forbidden Topics for Hearthstone Forums:
Enjoying Americans winning in the Olympics is forbidden because it is political. A 14 plus page discussion of state-sponsored lawsuits against a multi-national corporation based on harassment, discrimination, and wrongful death allegations is apparently not political enough to raise an issue.
Another reason for this is that many people simply don‘t care about achievements. Like me. I don‘t even know that there is one for a 5th generation raptor. If i would face you i would probably think „wow raptor decks really don‘t work“ and kill you.
Christ man, dont make the game so complicating than its intended to be. There is only one objective: to win. You are asking people to queue into a game and start thinking unnecessary things like “is he trying to get an achievement?” “What can I do to help him out?” “Maybe he had 999 wins and need one more to get golden hero portrait, am I preventing him from doing so?” etc etc.
No one knows your situation but you and no, its not obvious that you are going for achievement since majority dont remember requirements of achievements. Dont be selfcentered and just play the game. You have to work for it,no one is gonna hand it to you. Thats why its called achievements
The real issue imo is that most achievements are ones that you are not likely to get with mainstream decks. Thus you are forced to play decks aimed at the achievements instead of "luckily" get them during normal play. It has pros and cons i guess.
The achievements are great. They made me experiment. I went 4 wins out of 9 trying to get the raptor achievement. Turns out my home brew was viable against Paladins, but nothing else.
I think it's totally fair that they don't know or don't care about your achievements. It's obvious to you, but not to everyone.

@OP If you are playing on desktop you can try to send friend invite just after the game started and if you are lucky, your opponent will accept it and you can said him what you are abiut. It does not work every time (I am not sure how the "* send you a friend request" does look - if "*" is "Recent opponent" or "Actual opponent" or something else) but IMO it is worth a try. It worked for me few times. PM me if you want to know more.
Good luck with hunting!

HS is mostly a competitive game. I say mostly because sometimes you get these rare co-op brawls every now and then.
Do you expect people to queue into a game and watch you play solo mode?
Also, how would I even know if you were trying to achieve something? Am I just to assume that people taking weird and unconventional turns are doing achievements and therefore I should just watch them play solitaire?
Achievements are supposed to be things you managed to do as a feat.
I will say though, that the current implementation of the system is horrible. Even the interface is unintuitive garbage.
People just rush face and kill me as soon as they can.
Sorry, but that's exactly what I would do 100% of the time if I faced you. Why should I waste my time just because a random opponent decided not to play the game in order to win?
Yeah, that sounds selfish, but depriving others of having an entertaning match (which is probably one of the main reasons they are playing a video game in the first place) is too.
I think it's totally fair that they don't know or don't care about your achievements. It's obvious to you, but not to everyone.

The point of having them being ? A time sink ?
Who cares if some people just want the achievement points, who cares if some other people just want the sense of accomplishment, let people be.
Are you playing normally or are you making meme decks and stupid plays to force the completion of your achievement ? Pretty sure you are not just playing normally, one could say that also negates the point of having achievements. Except it doesn't, we all see achievements in a different way, but we all hate to lose ladder games for it.
As others have offered: achievements are your business only, and if your opponent doesn't play along, you can't hold it against them. Being upset about this will only hurt yourself.
Personally, I think achievements like these have allowed some experimentation with cards in decks that I would otherwise not even touch.
Take for example, that achievement in paladin to buff lots of minions with Invigorating Sermon. In order to do this one, you'd best build a deck with mostly minions. You can tutor out the spells as well.
The deck is awful, but I was able to jam a few other achievement cards in there, and I was surprised at how many games actually came kinda close. With some specific minion tweaks, it might actually do something. And it was fun to mess around with these cards.
Maybe the goal should be not to get too greedy with all the achievement cards in one deck and try to make something semi-decent to play with. Then at least if you run into people who don't care about achievements (lots of people), you can still just play the game and maybe win, too.
Pherosizm, I have been playing Sermon paladin for a while now, pretty much the first achievement I completed, I can suggest one or two deck lists if you want ? You just tell me if you prefer to counter fast or slow decks.
I believe this deck is far from awful, I'm not playing too much Standard at the moment but when I do, the deck feels good and it climbs. I'm only in platinum rank at the moment.
And I mean I've worked hard on refining this deck I can't let you tell me that my work has been for nothing haha.
And yes you make a good point, no need to get too greedy or memy with the achievements, I always try to complete them with decent decks, it's more fun that way, and also you lose fewer ranks lol.

Sorry about that, didn't mean to put down your work. I thought that card was safely not going to offend anyone. I should have known better.
Actually, chances are likely that my awful deck is my own doing. After looking at my list again, I think I fell prey to the thing I just suggested not doing. Too many achievement cards in the deck. I'd be interested to see the list you run (fast or slow) with sermon for a more competitive run with it. :)
I was light hearted when I said that, you didn't offend me at all ! It's a good thing that Invigorating Sermon isn't too popular, you don't want this to be another Incanter's Flow.
Ok I will give you 2 lists later today in this thread i can't log in right now.

We're trying to make it as obvious as possible. Never hit face even once. Never even attack a minion. triggering my hero power when I have spare mana and refusing to attack, or ping my own face, or heal yours, only. Spam greetings. What else are we supposed to do? Because if I ever see someone who refuses to attack, I'll just let them do their achievement. You don't need to think about what achievement they're doing; you just need the knowledge that achievements exist.
People just rush face and kill me as soon as they can.
But the thing is, people I've faced while doing achievements don't even do that. They kill all my minions. They would have won faster if they rushed face, and left my non-taunt minions alone, but noo.

I'm sorry that happened to you, but you need to learn to move past this, this mentality is a significant part of what's wrong with the world. Because what your doing causes the people like you to also start hindering everyone else's achievements, and it'll spread from there, making it worse for everyone, including yourself the next time you want to do an achievement
